Warren Buffett will benefit from Barack Obama’s decision to kill the Keystone Pipeline
Warren Buffett is a billionaire who just happens to be a darling of Barack Obama and the left because he has spoken out on the need for the 1% to pay higher taxes. (Although he has never willingly signed over a check to the government to show us how deeply convicted he is on this position.) Barack Obama often cites Warren Buffett’s outspoken views on taxation when he promises to make the rich “pay their fair share” so imagine my surprise when I learned that it is none other than Warren Buffett who stands to benefit from Barack Obama’s decision to kill the Keystone Pipeline.
Mr. Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. owns Burlington Northern Santa Fe LLC, which is among the railroads that would transport oil produced in western Canada if the pipeline isn’t built.
“Whatever people bring to us, we’re ready to haul,” Krista York-Wooley, a spokeswoman for Burlington Northern, a unit of Buffett’s Omaha, Neb.-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc., told Bloomberg News. If Keystone XL “doesn’t happen, we’re here to haul,” she said.
When Barack Obama decided to kill the pipeline he claimed that it was done for environmental concerns. He claimed that the Republicans forced his hand and he had no choice but to kill the pipeline because there wasn’t adequate time for a review on the environmental concerns even though a three year review was completed and found that the risks to the environment were miniscule. The results were not to Barack Obama’s liking so decided to wait for the results of yet another review in the hopes that the results would be more sympathetic to his political agenda. It was this second review which was cut short by the Republicans because Barack Obama was trying to delay his decision until after the election so he wouldn’t alienate voters whose support he will need in order to win reelection.
Barack Obama’s defense of his decision on this pipeline was always dubious, but now we have learned that a darling of the left, and a major Democrat contributor, seems poised to gain substantially from this decision and one has to wonder if this decision was made for environmental concerns, or if this was simply a kickback to Warren Buffett for his support to Democrat causes over the years.

Well, he’ll haul the oil that isn’t diverted to China. Also, remember, he made an oil deal that benefited George Soros in Brazil as well. Obama loves oil-if it benefits his cronies and his masters.

Yes he did, I forgot about that. There seems to be a pattern here.

Rj, I think it boils down to “anywhere but here” when it comes to oil! He stated last night that he wanted to “bring jobs back to this country”, ha, what a laugh! Think of all the jobs that oil would create, not only by getting it here, but refining it and transporting it around this country. Yes, he wants to take this country down and he has done a damn fine job of it up to now. Wonder what else we have to look forward to if he stays in office?

Very true Lou, he has this grudge against the oil and coal companies which clouds his vision on this issue and it seems as if he would rather punish these companies then do what is best for the American people.

Personally, I don’t think it was done because of or for Buffet. It was still the wrong decision for reasons I’ve already stated and simply criminal to turn down one of our closest allies – who wanted us to get the oil – only to wind up letting our rival China get it.
The Chinese must be large donors to Obama or they think we’re crazy.

Maybe Obama had to pay back China for all of the loans and this was part of his payment plan.

Considering the expose of Chinese influence in Al Gore’s fund raising during the 2000 election campaign as well as questions raised during the latter part of the Clinton administration, it may not be much of a stretch to believe that the Chinese are influence pedaling, through surrogates, in American politics. I would further venture that if one party is reaping a benefit from outside influence the other party would probably not miss a chance to also “wet their beaks.” Just a thought….WM

I do not think this is an unlikely scenario at all, in fact I would be surprised if this wasn’t happening.

I remember that as well, and they got some space launch technology right after that, didn’t they?

The answer to your ending question “. . . one has to wonder if this decision was made for environmental concerns, or if this was simply a kickback to Warren Buffett for his support to Democrat causes over the years” is obviously, “Of course it’s a kickback!” And since now I see what was in it for Buffet, I’m afraid he’s been unceremoniously dumped from my “people I admire” list.
Politics is a business, after all . . . right?

It sure is and it has been a lucrative business for many members of Congress for far too long.

Obama’s energy policy is more windmills and choo-choo trains, in other words, he wants to take us back in time.

This comment may not be on point but it is germaine to this ego maniac’s antics. Eric Boling on the Five labeled the Bummer’s State of the Union as the State of the Illusion – I can think of no more fitting sobriquet to that charade. Just my opinion of course….WM
