Is there a connection between Mitt Romney and Saul Alinsky?
I saw this video posted by Don at Conservative Hideout and thought it was something that needed to be seen. It appears as if Mitt Romney’s father had met with Saul Alinsky and thought that he was an important voice in American politics in the 1960’s.
Is this a stretch made by somebody who is supporting Newt Gingrich? It is quite possible and even likely, but the fact remains that conservatives do not trust Mitt Romney, and for good reason. Mitt Romney is a man with no firm political beliefs–he will say whatever he feels is necessary in order to win the presidency, but we really do not know what his true positions are because they are forever changing.
So is it a stretch? I don’t know because I don’t know who Mitt Romney really is politically, so I will let you be the judge.

For good reason, Conservatives and Independents are disenchanted with the GOP field. Even the GOP primary voter turnout is down 4.3%. Hard to get enthusiastic about an enigmatic candidate who comes across as a person without clearly defined fundamental beliefs. Harder still to get excited about any of the lackluster field of GOP candidates. What a mess.

Sadly you and Matt are right. This is a less than thrilling GOP crop of candidates we have been offered and I think the low voter turnout in the primaries is indicitive of that. This does not bode well for the general election.

I have to agree with the last comment. The entire field is a mess. At the moment that we need a true Conservative, we have this bunch.

Hi Steve,
Romney has no ideology or any core principles that I can tell. He bends which ever way the wind blows. the Republican Party is a disaster. I don’t agree with the pundits that say Romney is the most electable.

Hi Jim, I am so glad to see you are getting better and can now start to read the blogs again! You are right about Romney and the party in general, this should be a year in which the Republicans cruise to victory and yet they are in the midst of blowing the whole thing and there isn’t anything we can do about it.

Jim, at this point, I would have a hard time saying that ANY of them were “most electable”. I still have no idea who I will vote for, but I think the decision will be made for me. I think that as the different candidates drop out and we are down to Romney, I will have to decide to vote for him or write in a candidate. Of course that would be a symbolic vote at best and I know alot of people that will do that, just because. At this time, I do not see much difference in the parties, I feel that we are being sold out and that there is someone higher up that is pulling the strings, doesn’t really matter who the “winner” is, it will be the same outcome, all be it, maybe a slower outcome if Republican. The sad thing is that “we the people” are paying for this to happen. It is OUR money that is being used to crush us! And still we keep giving them the money to hang all of us. Are we, in fact, in a “no win” situation now?

I happen to think that you are right when you say there isn’t much of a difference between the parties and this is why I am still not sure whether I can vote for either Romney or Gingrich if they win the nomination. You are right, in the end the result would be the same as if Obama was reelected, it will just take longer if Mitt or Newt is president. Yes we are in a no win situation.

You might say that Romney is the Republican version of the Obummer. As for a connection to Alinsky, I don’t buy it. It’s a stretch. Alinsky was a radical political floater during a period of political strife over the war. There were many politicians who met, for whatever politically expedient reasons, with various radicals. Romney connected to Alinsky is a stretch.
I was one of four security advisers for the Democratic National Finance Committee during the 2000 Convention in L.A. I had the unfortunate experience of being in the presence of some of the biggest liberal political donors in the country..
If we were to take a nonsensical distraction like Romney’s father breathing the same oxygen as Saul Alinsky then we could also extrapolate my position at that time to mean that I and others may be closet liberals because I was in the presence of those and other self serving liberals? I think not.
The political horse shit on both sides is getting so deep that we’re all close to drowning in it. There are too many distraction that provide cover for both sides and as a result the culture of political corruption is never resolved….WM

I agree, it is a stretch to say there is a connection between Mitt and Alinsky but much like Alinsky Romney is also a floater and I do not doubt that if elected he would turn to the left if he thought it would help him win reelection. The problem is that we don’t know who the real Mitt Romney is.

William,
Yeah. Given all the angst and disappointment among the conservative rank and file, I think there’s plenty of hyperbole going around. Being engaged is one thing, but fabricating fearsome fantasies is quite another. People…

I guess I am guilty of that as well. I am so disappointed that either Mitt or Newt is most likely going to be the nominee that I don’t know if their election would be any better than Obama winning a second term.

Exactly my point. The real issue is which RHINO is best suited to run and win against Soros’ boy toy in the White House. At this point I don’t think any of them pass the muster. Just my opinion….WM
Post Script: I like to use the RHINO spelling because it is a vague analogy to an animal that is not very bright – I leave the correct spelling to those of limited imagination.

William, I believe you are correct! We do not have much to choose from, we are in serious trouble because of that. We have been told who the candidate will be and we will LIKE it, right? That worked out so well last time with McCain, I image it will work out the same this time. And for what it is worth, your opinion is just as important to post as anyone else that posts here. We need to hear what everyone thinks, that is what is great about this blog.

And even if they did beat Obama I am not sure there is enough of a difference between then and Obama to make it even matter in the end.

Anyone but Romney at this point. Anyone. At least I want a fighting chance with Obamacare. With him = Zip.
