Why did Mitt Romney choose Massachusetts as a base for his political career?

February 10, 2012

Mitt Romney is running on his private experience in the business sector as a jobs creator, while ignoring his record as governor of Massachusetts. Whenever one of his political rivals mentions his less than conservative record as governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney likes to fall back on the fact that the Massachusetts legislature under his tenure was 85% Democrat, so he was very limited in what he was able to accomplish. It wasn’t his fault, he was a victim of Massachusetts politics.

It is true and cannot be disputed that the Massachusetts legislature was–and remains–heavily Democrat controlled, but it leads me to ask this question: Mitt Romney was not from Massachusetts but CHOSE to run for governor in one of the most liberal states in America, so why is it that this was the state he decided to run in if he were a true conservative? Could it be that this was a great way to hide his true liberal policies behind the legislature of a liberal state?

He ran for governor simply as a stepping stone to the presidency and I find it odd he would chose to base his presidential aspirations in Massachusetts of all states if he really is who he says he is.

    Robamney,
The establishment is looking less and less relevant these days, exactly what we need.

I hope so, but they still are pouring the money into this campaign so he will probably end up buying the nomination.

You do have a point there. It does sound strange. I can’t tell you what we should believe is true or not with this election, there is alot of “misinformation” floating around, isn’t there? We just have to take our stance of “best guessing” it. If anyone has a better idea, run it by me, because I am at a loss.

Lou, if you go to my site and read the article I posted Mitt Romney Isn’t As Squeaky Clean As He Wants Us To Believe. And it is all truthful. I don’t put up anything that would misinform anyone. I am not a POLITIAN. lol

Go to Mitt Romney’s Wiki and you will find your answer to this. I will save you some time if you would like. I have been there.

Durning his 2002 gubernational campaign Romney as a political outsideer, again, saying he was “not a partisian Republican” but rather a “Moderate” with progressive views. Again…I will state my opinion of Romney….nothing more than a “WHITE” Obama.

I did read that last night when I was trying to remember where he came from. That description of him is perfect and is exactly why he chose Massachusetts.

Thank You Steve, I don’t post anything on my blogs that hasn’t been checked out first or I personally heard it with my own ears. I will not misinform anyone.

The “PROGRESSIVE’S” are like the gays 40 years ago. Hiding in the Closet. When Obama got elected in 2008, they then thought they had it sowed up to take this country over and turn us into a SOCIALIST country. Alot of them felt it was time to start coming out and unmasking themselves. But, the people of this country wasn’t and aren’t as dumb as they thought we were…We are fighting them back. Progressisve’s are Democrats, Republicans. Independents. And now we can add Progressives to that list.

Any time you hear one say or read they are progressives or has progressive view……cut ties immediately.

You make a very good point here Steve. Why did he choose Mass to start his political career? Was he not conservative enough to win in a more conservative state. I can tell you he would have had very little chance in ND.

That is exactly why he chose Massachusetts in my opinion. Much like Obama made a choice to moce from Hawaii to Chicago for a reason, so did Mitt move to Massachusetts.

All I can think of is that he attended Harvard, and then went to work at Bain-in Boston. That doesn’t excuse his choice, but may explain it.

A possibly explanation, but I still think he needed to run in a more liberal state if he was going to get elected because he is not really a conservative.

here’s what everyone needs to know about Romney – based on his liberal record in Mass. as its governor we can expect the following:

If he won the presidency, he would start out governing from the right and then ease his way back to the middle ending up leaning left. All of these fake conservatives/republicans use the same tactic.

Best to elect a true conservative and that’s Santorum first, Newt second. Ron Paul, well his foreign policies would leave America defenseless – he’s right on the Fed, Fannie and Freddie though.

So, no RINO’s in this election. We did that with McCain going against obama in 2008. I hope we’ve learned our lesson!

I agree fully with your analysis. There is no doubt in my mind that before his term was over Mitt Romney would end up governing much closer to the left than the right. I also hope we learned our lesson from 2oo8 but to this point it doesn’t look as if we have.

He is not even a Republican let alone a conservative. Oh, but he is the most electable, right? I am so sick of hearing that.

I am tired of hearing it also, what makes him the most electable? Is it what he did with healthcare, his position on cap and trade, his “fee” increases as governor, his support of TARP and the bailouts? He is being pushed on us by the media and the establishment and I do not believe he is electable at all!

The answer to your question is simple. Romney came to MA to work at Bain Capital in 1977 and he made MA his home. Romney is certainly a liberal Republican, but he didnt move to MA for political purposes.
