Energy Secretary Steven Chu gives himself an ‘A’ for gas prices

March 20, 2012

During a House Oversight Committee hearing Energy Secretary Steven Chu was asked to grade himself on his role in reducing gas prices. As gas prices near $4.00 a gallon in most of the nation and $5.00 a gallon in some parts of the nation Steven Chu actually decided that he deserved an ‘A’ for his efforts to control gas prices.

This is certainly a baffling answer considering the skyrocketing price of gas, until you take into account what Steven Chu’s position on gas prices has been in the past; in 2008 Steven Chu stated that “we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.” And then just last week Mr. Chu admitted that it wasn’t the goal of the Obama regime to bring down gas prices.

With Barack Obama facing the prospect of a tough reelection campaign Steven Chu last week claimed that he no longer supports raising the price of gas to European levels–isn’t that convenient–but are we really supposed to believe a claim made in the heat of an election and simply discard what his stated opinion has been for so many years? He has flip flopped on this issue in much the same manner Mitt Romney has on so many issues over the years.

Steven Chu gave himself an ‘A’ because gas prices are rising, and he has always wanted gas prices to rise so his policies are working exactly as they were intended to work.

  Mission accomplished.

If A is for asshole he deserves two A’s, one for him and one for his boss.

A stupid question received a stupid answer. It will make a great sound bite for the Republican campaign, however.

Chu like most academics in general, lives on a plane of self justified opinion – whether based on fact or not. In th\at sense he is like Barack Obama – convinced that his vision is correct and that everyone else is devoid of any intellect.

Chu reputes his previous statement but does everything possible to make sure that his original statement comes to fruition. His statement that he has been working to do everything in his power to control rising gas prices is a lie. But then that is a hallmark of this administration….WM

I would give him a C, since the real blame for gas prices lies with the Federal Reserve and less with environmental policies. Why are the candidates so quiet about the impact that inflation has on gas prices?

They should be hammering the president on this, but they are too busy fending off the negative attacks Romney is throwing their way. He has single handedly sidetracked this whole election.
