The Obama campaign’s new anti-Romney ad entitled “Steel” is not exactly true
The Obama campaign released a blistering new ad earlier today entitled “Steel” and in this ad Mitt Romney is lambasted for draining all the money out of GST Steel as he could before closing the steel plant down. Here is part of what one man in the ad had to say about Bain Capital:
They made as much money off it as they could and they closed it down, they filed for bankruptcy, without any concern for the families or the communities,” says Joe Soptic, a former steelworker. “It was like watching an old friend bleed to death
It is always heartbreaking when people lose their jobs and I am not downplaying this aspect of the story, but there is one small problem with the assertion made in the ad that Mitt Romney played an influential role in Bain Capital’s decision to close the company down–Mitt Romney left Bain Capital a full two years before the company was forced to close.
The ad is deceptive at best and disingenuous at worst as it tries to tie the GST closing to Mitt Romney knowing that most people won’t realize Romney was no longer associated with Bain Capital. But there was one man still on the Board of Directors of Bain Capital which the ad failed to mention. His name is Jonathan Lavine and he still has a prominent position with Bain Capital, and he just happens to be a major bundler for Barack Obama. Funny how he wasn’t mentioned in this ad, isn’t it?

No mention of the steel plants he saved, while we were being flooded by cheap imported steel. This is going to be one nasty campaign of lies and deceit.

Here’s what I know from the advertisements: Most people think the opposite of a lie is truth, or the opposite of truth to be a lie. In campaigns, they advertise often with points that are “not false”. This is great for lawyers and politicians, but doesn’t work for the rest of us… however the damages are done. In this case, the person in the ad talks about “they” meaning Bain. They don’t directly say Mitt Romney did ALL of this, hence its not false and its allowable. Herein lies my problems. How do voters consistently vote and re-vote for a group of people that define their statements by saying they’re “not false”, instead of taking a big swallow, looking into the camera and stating an honest truth?

I read the other day that as much as Obama talks dirt about Wall Street, he is getting more campaign contributions from them than the Republicans, including from Bain Capital. Just a tad hypocritical, don’t you think?

If we had a dollar for every untrue Obama claim we’d have almost as much money as he wasted on the stimulus.
It’s good to point it out so more people see for themselves.
