The Washington Post attacks Mitt Romney’s religion based on an event from 1857, but I thought religion was off limits?
A couple of weeks ago the Washington post ran a hit piece about a bullying incident which supposedly occurred in Mitt Romney’s past, when he was a teenager–a piece the paper was forced to edit because there was false reporting contained within–and today the paper is at it again. Not content with going back 50 years in time to dig up dirt on Mitt Romney the paper has now gone back 155 years to bring up stories on the history of the Mormon church, which it feels might hurt Mitt Romney’s candidacy.
The paper recounts the Mountain Meadows Massacre from 1857 and then delves into the question of whether or not this will be a stain on Mitt Romney’s presidential bid. Of course in doing so they bring to light a sad chapter of the Mormon faith that many people don’t know about in an attempt to cast doubt on Mitt Romney due to his faith. The title of the article–Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith tangles with a quirk of Arkansas history–tells us everything we need to know about the intent of the paper.
Mitt Romney addressed this massacre the last time he ran for president:
That was a terrible, awful act carried out by members of my faith,” he told the Associated Press. “There are bad people in any church, and it’s true of members of my church, too
But that didn’t stop the Washington Post from reminding people who may have forgotten. The intent was clear; make Mitt Romney’s religion an issue in this campaign, but while the Washington Post thinks something that happened many years before Mitt Romney was born may (hopefully in the paper’s viewpoint) be relevant to the presidential race they don’t seem to think that an actual relationship between Barack Obama and the anti-American, Jew hating pastor–Reverend Wright–should have any bearing on the presidential race.
Just last week it was reported that a Mitt Romney Super PAC was planning to attack Barack Obama based on this relationship and the media was aghast at the group for dredging up old news. Mitt Romney quickly repudiated the proposed ad but that apparently wasn’t good enough for David Axelrod who called Mitt Romney’s response “tepid” and stated the Obama regime wouldn’t make Mitt Romney’s Mormonism a campaign issue.
And why would the Obama campaign make Mitt Romney’s religion an issue when their propaganda arm, otherwise known as the mainstream media, will do it for them? I will be waiting for David Axelrod to repudiate this Washington Post article because he said an actual relationship between Barack Obama and Reverend Wright wasn’t fair game, so how can something that happened before the Civil War be considered fair game?
I am hoping that everyone will get sick of these tirades. There have to be rational people out there.

I hope so as well, it was so obvious what the intent was here that I think people will see through it and tire of it if it keeps up.

As I said the other day, this election will be fought an won in the sewers. Romney is running against Obama and the media. He had better get used to it.

Thank you! It does seem like there is a growing list of things we aren’t supposed to mention.

Since they are delving into the history of Mormonism maybe they can do a piece on the Massacre at Nauvoo, Illinois. I doubt it though.

I admit, I had to look this up but it does sound sort of the same as this incident so I wouldn’t be surprised if they trot it out next week.

Well, should we then discuss the Democrat’s history of Jim Crow, the Klan, and voting against every civil rights bills, over 100 years AFTER the Mormons did their bad deed?

Wait a minute, you mean it was southern Democrats who opposed all the civil rights legislation and created the Klan? But that’s not the way its portrayed! 🙂 Seriously though, this does show us how deep they will dig to go after Romney while ignoring their own past.

Just another smoke bomb lobbed by the left, this one may however blow back in their faces.

Yep, keep throwing them all out there hoping one will stick. I don’t think too many people are going to take this story too serious but it does show us how far the MSM will go in order to toxify Mitt Romney.

You have it all wrong, Steve. Don’t you understand this is how the left plays the ballgame? This perfectly acceptable in their eyes and how dare we stand up and ask why they are doing it.

This is just so fucking desperate, it has gone completely beyond sanity. How is it that something that happened a century and a half ago has any bearing at all on the behavior of a very bright businessman? Now, if you want to talk about CURRENT DAY events and religion, just look at today’s Muslim activities, AHEM. 🙄

Desperate is exactly right! I think Obama is getting very scared and so are his lapdogs in the media so they are pulling out all the stops. But I think the more they do this the more people will turn against them…at least I hope so.

I wouldn’t hold my breath for a ‘blow-back’ against the MSM and the Progressive establishment. The focus should remain on Conservatives bombing all opportunities to spread the message about the realities of our economy and societies ills. Pray…David may slay Goliath.

Does Romney want to supply our military with undergarments from the Mormon church? These garments supposedly protect the wearer from fire and bullets. Is it wrong to ask Romney this question?
