Video: Allen West defends himself for saving his soldiers’ lives in Iraq

May 30, 2012

For those of you who do not know the story of what Allen West did while serving in Iraq in 2003 this is a quick summary: Allen West received information that his men were about to be ambushed by insurgents so he grabbed one of his prisoners and fired a gun beside his head and up into the air. The prisoner quickly gave Allen West all the information he required and it is quite likely he saved the lives of his men through this action. For his actions he received a $5,000 fine and has stated over and over again that he would gladly do the same thing again if it meant saving the lives of his men; during his testimony he stated, “if it’s about the lives of my soldiers at stake, I’d go through hell with a gasoline can.”

At a recent Town Hall meeting Allen West was confronted by a Democrat on this issue and once again he said he would do it all once again, but then said if people wanted to talk about what he did on the battlefield all those years ago then we should also talk about Barack Obama doing blow and smoking pot.

Here is the video from the encounter with a hat tip to The Right Scoop:

I see no reason for any explanation. My son’s unit had the exact scenario in 2005 with the same results. It’s us against them and anyone who thinks differently is a fool at best and a complete delusional idiot at worst or simply anti-war anti-U.S. radical progressive socialists. Contempt doesn’t even begin to describe my disgust for these vile cowards.

Allen West is a soldiers soldier and a patriot….WM

I couldn’t agree more William, there is no need for any explanation and it bothers the hell out of me that he was forced to defend himself here.
Also, thank your son for me for his service.

As I always say, “I gotta do what I gotta do!” Sometimes you have to do things that are not “politically correct” during wartimes. Col. West is an honorable man as far as I am concerned and did what he thought was right. Who are these people in the Administration that question the integrity and decision of an honorable man? Contempt sounds about right, William!

I agree, we cannot possibly understand what these people go through over there and I find it pathetic that Allen West was forced to defend his decision.

Even when those drones kill civilians, as long as it is Obama ordering those attacks. The left would be up in arms if Bush was doing this.

Everybody and their mother is stuck on the left vs right paradigm. Its us vs them…whatever happened to the United States not the United Republicans vs the United Democrats! How anyone continues to see a difference between Republicans and Democrats is amazing.

They start these “little things” so we all go off and defend our party and no one then looks the way either of them vote. Allen West is a Veteran but it says “may have” saved his men’s lives not that it did.

But regardless of that…look at what West has voted for in the past. He along with President Obama voted to pass the NDAA that allows indefinite detention of America citizens effectively denying them due process and their Constitutionally protected rights.

He then also voted in favor of CISPA to regulate the internet for “our good” to “protect intellectual” property rights, while in reality it regulated the internet for Congress’ rights and corporations’ rights.

He voted in favor of extending the Patriot Act to spy on Americans, took a lot of heat for it and then a few months later recanted it.

Thanks for serving Colonel West in the military but how about upholding both of those oaths that you swore to uphold and defend the Constitution from both foreign AND DOMESTIC!!! Such as those who pass laws and try to nullify the Bill of Rights that protect our God given freedoms.

NDAA, Patriot Act, CISPA = MORE BIG GOVERNMENT& LESS FREEDOM = Tea Party Favorite? Oh well he’s a republican and that means he’s better than Obama!!! Even if he agrees with Obama several times a year! At least we know he isn’t a democrat that wants to take our liberties away!

No, but there are “americans” and there are “AMERICANS”. We know the difference, there are some that don’t.

Most people understand why he did what he did, it is too bad he had waste his time with people like this who will never appreciate what our military does for us.

This is a man who deserves all our support and he is my choice for VP but sadly there is no chance Romney will chose him.

Must we remind some of these people that this is war? Sometimes, things have to be done fast. West did what he had to do to save his men.

Exactly Larry, it may not have been protocol and he paid a fine for that, but if I was over there I would want to be led by someone like West because you know he will do whatever it takes to protect his men.
