Elizabeth Warren wins 96% of the vote at the Massachusetts Democratic Convention and avoids a primary contest
When Elizabeth Warren announced her bid to become Massachusetts’ first Native-American senator the Massachusetts Democrat party tried clear the field for the high cheekboned candidate but one woman refused to go along with the scheme and remained in the race.
In order for her one remaining opponent to get on the ballot in the primary Marisa DeFranco needed to garner 15% of the delegates at today’s Democratic convention but the fix was in and she stood no chance in the end. Elizabeth Warren won 96% of the vote, and Marisa DeFranco was scalped and sent packing. The Democrat establishment rallied around Barack Obama’s handpicked candidate when the man who might just be the next nominee to the Supreme Court if Barack Obama wins reelection–Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick–broke precedent and endorsed Elizabeth Warren before the convention. Backroom deals appear to be alive and kicking in the Massachusetts Democrat party much to the chagrin of Elizabeth Warren’s would be opponent:
The primary process exists. If we don’t want to have a primary, shut it down,” said DeFranco,
Needless to say the Democrat party in Massachusetts is excited about this fiasco:
Elizabeth Warren made history today because of the strength of her impressive grassroots organization and her record as a tireless advocate for middle class families throughout Massachusetts
She’s been a tireless advocate for middle class families in Massachusetts, yet she lived in Oklahoma? And have you ever heard of a grassroots effort which was endorsed by the president of the United States and the governor of a state? A grassroots effort which raises $15 million, much of which came from out of state? This was no grassroots effort: Elizabeth Warren was hand picked to run against Scott Brown and the Massachusetts Democrats were going to let nobody stand in her way and the real reason she won the nearly unanimous vote today was because she has the money to run against Scott Brown.
As much as I wanted to see Elizabeth Warren embroiled in a bitter, bloody, costly, and hard fought primary battle before she faced Scott Brown this could end up being a bit of a blessing in disguise. Elizabeth Warren has never run for any public office before and we have already seen that she doesn’t handle controversy or being questioned well at all. A primary battle–which she stood virtually no chance of losing–might have better prepared her to go into the fight with Scott Brown. She could have answered all the questions about her untruthfulness and honed her message, but now her faked heritage is sure to be an issue from now until the November elections.
Hopefully this decision by the Massachusetts establishment will backfire and Elizabeth Warren will be left (dare I say it?) red-faced in the November election.

Just another example of how brain dead Mass Democrats are – voting for the most familiar name rather than electing someone with something substantive to offer….WM

Make no mistake about it, Marisa DeFranco is no better than Warren and in fact may even be to the left of her. The candidates who might have been more reasonable were “persuaded” to drop out of the race when Warren first entered the race.

So if DeFranco is further left than Warren who is pretty much a socialist, does that make DeFranco a communist? Just a thought….

I guess it ould, wouldn’t it? Her big issue is illegal immigration; she is actually an immigration lawyer who basically wants to grant illegals everything.

Like Obama, it seems the fix has been in for Warren for most of her life. The nation elected a composit president and Mass. will have a chance to elect a composit Senator. Can you see her waving her hands as she addresses the Senate. Scott Browm is not a great conservative but he would be ten times better than Lizzie. But, it’s hard to embarrass the people of Mass. Look how many times they reelected Teddy.

Scott Brown is not perfect but when you see the alternative he is perfectly acceptable. If Brown can hold on it will greatly improve the Republicans chances of winning the Senate.

The truth is the people of Massachusetts pretty much elected the people who represent their views…statists. Most of the people in that state are for big government solutions. They’re statists. So why not elect the Liz Warrens of the world. My how they’ve regressed since the Boston Tea Party. What a shame.

That’s true John, we can complain about this but in the end the people of Massachusetts are electing people who represent their values and apparently Warren does.

I have to say this was a bit of a surprise, but then again, why should it.

Since the state implemented this convention system no Democrat has not had a primary opponent. DeFranco got enough signatures to appear on the ballot but the party said screw the people and decided they didn’t deserve a choice. It really is sickening but Scott Brown is probably the first legitimate Republican candidate in Mass. the Democrats have faced so they decided they couldn’t fool around with a primary contest and some type of backroom deal was struck.

I have some issues with Scott Brown, although I understand he needs to do a high-wire act to keep that seat. Given the choice between him or Warren though…It’s like a choice between Romney or Obama, a no-brainer.

I have issues with Brown as well but at least he could be counted on to vote with Republicans 80% of the time whereas Warren will vote with the Democrats 100% of the time. Brown’s seat is an important “keep” if the Republicans want to gain control over the Senate.
