As goes Wisconsin, so goes the nation Part IV: Scott Walker wins recall election
Scott Walker has won the recall election and this is great news for the future direction of this nation. I have written a series of posts, of which this is the conclusion, in which I stated exactly how important I felt the recall election in Wisconsin really is. It has been my belief that as goes Wisconsin, so goes the nation and the theory is quite simple: This nation faces a fiscal crisis which must be dealt with in the very near future or the total economic system will collapse under the weight of excessive government spending. Tough decisions must be made, but the problem is that too many politicians on both sides of the aisle put their reelections ahead of the future of the country and are not willing to do what is needed to stave off the impending doom for fear of repercussions at the ballot box.
Scott Walker was one man who stepped up to the plate and actually made tough choices regardless of what it meant for his political future, and his changes made a difference:
Walker has helped to turn a $3.6 billion budget deficit into a $154 million surplus. Over 35,000 new jobs have been added since Walker’s reforms. Property taxes were decreased for he first time in 12 years and the state has saved more than a billion dollars in spending.
But for all of his successes he faced exactly what most politicians fear the most–the ire of a certain sect of the voters who decided that he needed to be removed from office for making choices which they did not agree with and it didn’t matter if he was the duly elected head of the state, they refused to accept the will of the people.
The problem for Scott Walker’s detractors was the timeline; it simply took too long for the process to play out. The unions had hoped to recall Scott Walker before the results of his policies were seen, hoping emotion would carry them to victory, but once the results were seen people voted with their head because they saw his policies were working, and this bodes well for the November election.
If Scott Walker had been recalled for taking a tough political stance and making tough political decisions, even when it can be seen these decisions worked, it would have proved that the people simply weren’t ready to accept the tough decisions which must be made if we are to turn this nation around, and this would have dissuaded politicians from following Scott Walker’s lead.
But this election might just show us that the people are finally getting serious about solving the problems we face as a nation and this should embolden the Republicans heading into the November election for this is a repudiation not only of liberal policies but also of the president himself.
There is a clear contrast between Scott Walker’s policies and Barack Obama’s policies, not only in ideology but also in results, and this could give us an indication that the people are sick and tired of politicians who put their own futures ahead of the future of the country–this shows us that the people want action and they want results. Scott Walker has given the people of his state results while Barack Obama has given the people of the nation excuses and if I were the president I would be more than a little worried right about now.
The momentum from the election of 2010 has not been lost, and reports of the death of the Tea Party have been greatly exaggerated.

This is great new Steve. Perhaps the progressive movement has seen its high water mark. After all the money that was poured into Wisconsin by the left and unions they still could not win in a blue state. That speaks volumes and doesn’t look good for the progressive and Obama in November. It’s time we sweep these anti-liberty politicians out of office.

It sure is great news John and I think it does show us that liberal policies could be in trouble in November. They bet it all on Wisconsin and they lost and I do think this is a sign of what is going to happen in November if things don’t turn around by then.

If you think about it, Walker was doing what he said he’d do if he won. Also, a lot of this was a small segment of the population (state workers) screaming really loudly and busing in supporters from out of state.
This was an Astroturf issue and when the outsiders were eliminated we saw support the way it always was.
Wisconsin might go into Romney’s column now is the main effect.

Yes, he faced a recall for doing what he said he would do and it says something about some voters that he faced recall for being who he said he would be. It started out as a just public sector unions but it wasn’t long before private sector unions joined in. I have a feeling this will put Wisconsin in Romney’s column and he would hae thought that possible before this fiasco?

It is great news indeed! When I wrote my first post in this series I wasn’t very hopeful of this outcome, I am so glad it went the right way.

This is truely great news. I am more convinced than ever tha Obama will be toast this November. We will have to wait and see if Romney and the congressional Republicans will have as much back bone as Scott Walker. The House Republicabs are going to need to stiffen their backs even before the next administration takes over. Ajter the elections, the lame-duck Congress is going to have to deal with the debt ceiling again and the Gush tax cuts that expire the first of the year. Even Bill Clinton has come out in favor of extending the Bush tax cuts. We are in for some interesting times, my friend.

I think this make November look real good for Republicans and if I were the Democrats I would be worried. But we must hold the Republicans accountable as well, they must govern as conservatives and not as big government Republicans. But I am getting ahead of myself. Things are looking good for November but there still are some real issues that must be dealt with before the election and in the lame duck session.

I was hoping for this to happen. I lived in “Mad City” for about 3 years in the early 70’s, it is truly liberal. Let’s hope that it was people waking up to the fact that this CAN be done on turning things around in a state. I believe that our government doesn’t WANT this to happen, or how else would you explain the backlash Gov. Walker has received. Wouldn’t you think it would be a good thing to be in the black instead of the red? The unions have been taken down a notch, that is a good thing, they have gotten out of hand and way too powerful. They are NOT for the little people anymore, only for the high ups in the union. Sad. Gov. Walker played the game dealt to him and he won, my respect goes out to him, I hope he continues along the path he has set.

Yes it can be done and Scott Walker has led the way. By avoiding the recall it should give others the courage to follow in his steps. The unions has hoped this recall would take place before the results of his policies could be seen because they knew it would be effective, but once the results were seen there is no way people in the state could justify recalling him.

It sure does, and this was one of those times. Hopefully the Republicans don’t sit back fat and happy with these results. It is time to take the fight to the Democrats, that is the real lesson learned from thie election.
