Mitt Romney won’t say if he would overturn Barack Obama’s DREAM Act Executive Order

June 17, 2012

As someone who is finding it quite hard to get behind Mitt Romney, and as someone who isn’t committed to vote for Mitt Romney, I found his response to Barack Obama’s decision to bypass the Congress and unilaterally implement the DREAM Act by Executive Order to be troubling. Mitt Romney released a statement which condemned Barack Obama for the manner in which he implemented the new law but he didn’t condemn the law itself.

Mitt Romney’s only issue with Barack Obama’s decision is that it isn’t a permanent solution because an Executive Order can be overturned by the next president to come into power but, like RINO Marco Rubio, it appears as if Mitt Romney does support the legislation and he stated that as president he would work towards a permanent solution. To me that sounds as if Mitt Romney would try to work with the Congress to pass the DREAM Act legislatively, thusly ensuring permanent amnesty to a certain group of illegal immigrants. While this might be the proper procedure for implementing policy the fact remains that we are still talking about amnesty and the DREAM Act here.

And today on the morning talk shows Mitt Romney more or less confirmed my worries about where he stands on the DREAM Act when he refused to state on the record whether or not he would overturn Barack Obama’s Executive Order:

The Republican presidential candidate was asked three times in an interview on CBS’ ”Face the Nation” whether he would overturn the executive order issued Friday if he’s elected in the fall. He refused to directly answer

But what he did say was this:

He explained the order would become irrelevant “by virtue of my putting in place a long-term solution, with legislation which creates law that relates to these individuals such that they know what their setting is going to be, not just for the term of a president but on a permanent basis

In other words he intends to render Barack Obama’s Executive Order irrelevant because he plans on working with the Congress in an attempt to pass the DREAM Act legislatively. Basically he intends to take Barack Obama’s DREAM Act one step further by making it much harder for a true conservative to come along someday and reverse the new amnesty law.

Mitt Romney took the toughest stance against illegal immigration out of any of the Republican candidates during the primary, going so far as to call Newt Gingrich’s amnesty plan a magnet which would encourage more people to illegally enter the country, but with the primary election behind him he seems to be softening his stance and he is now open to creating a magnet of his own.

Who didn’t see that coming from the man with no core political beliefs?

My conservative friends, come election night this November, we will be blewed, screwed and tattooed without a kiss regardless the victor. I was, however, under the impression that the RINO would use a friction modifier while shoving it up our collective anal cavities but it now appears that consideration is off the table.

The more obama and his admin. believe he could lose, the more he’s going to stash money into areas they can reach them after the loss. If Romney wins he may not have any computers working either, like President Bush, remember they had to spend a fortune replacing the White House computers and notify hillary to bring back the dishes?I also remember when nancy pelosi was given the gavel in 2007, in less than a year the mortgage problems increased to a hellish amount. We’re righ

You know if BO leaves Romney no computers, there will be a certain irony to it as that is how he left as governor (actually it was the hard drives but hey six of one half dozen of the other).

I don’t remember the computer issue with the Clinton’s or with Romney either but you have to wonder what they were hiding. I don’t trust ROmney in the least and you won’t see me defending him on this.

I didn’t want Romney, buy it looked as though he had been “selected” for us. Now we have the option to “Vote Our Conscience” at the Convention. ABO for sure, but with that, ABR.

Romney was certainly the establishment’s candidate and he has been forced on us, however I am not one who believes ABO is good enough and I wonder if there is enough of a difference between the two to validate a vote for Romney.

Steve, this is never easy, you leave a guy little breathing room. I lived in Mexico for many years and tried many times to find a way to make a living there, but with no success. I have little use for those that come across our border illegally as a result of my personal experiance. This latest move by obama is nothing more than a “deflective action” designed to get the media and others attention away from the failing economy and poor jobs performacnce and to gain favor with the Latino voter in the southwestern states. And for that reason alone I will pay little attention to the efforts of Barack Obama and I personally think that Mitt should not either. “It’s the economy stupid” as James Carvelle said in 1992, is just as true today as it was then, and I for one will not be deflected by the DNC under the command of BHO. Like you I’m upset about this latest move of BHO to undermine what should be a legislative process, but I for one will not fall into the trap he has layed.

You make a good point Ron: there is no doubt that this was a political calculation on the part of the president designed to take the focus off the economy and perhaps it will turn out that Romney made the right move by bnot falling into a trap set by Barack Obama.

Doesn’t it make you wonder why anybody would want that job? Perhaps that is why the best candidates don’t run, why would they want the hassle?

No doubt! I have to correct myself about the computers though. The W’s were taken out of the computers which apparently rendered them useless, a follow up article said it cost a fortune to replace the damaged ones but I believe it weakened our systems when the damage was done. I apologize for the wrong information and Thank You for allowing me to speak up.
