Are Democrats beginning to abandon Eric Holder before the Contempt hearing on Thursday?

June 26, 2012

While the investigation into Fast and Furious has been going on for well over a year many people who get their news from the mainstream media have only recently heard about this scandal when Barack Obama asserted executive privilege to block documents which Darrell Issa had been demanding during this time period. This decision by Barack Obama forced the mainstream media to cover a story which it had been duplicitous in trying to cover up, but while being forced to cover the issue for the first time the networks are actively trying to spin this in favor of Barack Obama.

Because many people are just hearing about this scandal for the first time, many in the media and within the Democrat party (but I repeat myself) have done their best to spin this as nothing more than an election year, partisan, racist witch hunt carried about by the extreme right wing of the Republican party while unbeknownst to them the only reason this investigation has crept into the election year is the fact that Eric Holder has stonewalled the investigation for so long. This issue should have already been resolved and it would have been if Eric Holder wasn’t protecting either himself or Barack Obama.

Last week Darrell Issa stated that he was confident the Congress would vote to hold Eric Holder in contempt and he was equally confident that it would be a bipartisan vote with Democrats joining in to vote against Barack Obama’s beleaguered attorney general. If this is true it would deliver a death knell to those who are trying to claim this is a partisan election year political move, and we might just be seeing the first sign that Darrell Issa was right.

The first Democrat has declared publicly that he intends to vote to hold Eric Holder in contempt. Here is what Utah Representative Jim Matheson had to say earlier today in announcing his decision:

It just compounds the tragedy when both sides play politics instead of releasing  the facts. The Terry family, the public and Congress deserve answers,” Matheson  said in remarks first reported by the Salt Lake Tribune in his home state. “Sadly, it seems that it will take holding the attorney general in contempt to  communicate that evasiveness is unacceptable

He is 100% right, we all deserve answers, most notably the Terry and Zapata families along with the family members of the hundreds of murdered Mexicans, and according to the article I linked to above more Democrats are expected to follow his lead. Getting the first domino to fall is always the toughest one and now that one Democrat has broken from the party line  I don’t think it is out of the question to think that many more will also take a stand against this corrupt regime.

Despite what the mainstream media or the Democrat base would have us believe this is a legitimate investigation into a policy which has led to the deaths of hundreds of people and I find it interesting how many people on the left are willing to discount the value of life when it comes to protecting the Obama regime; obviously they put a higher price on the political future of Barack Obama than they do on the lives of the hundreds of people who have died as a result of this program–a program which by its very nature guaranteed that many people would die.

If enough Democrats follow Jim Matheson’s lead it will make it increasingly difficult for the media to continue to deny the gravity of this scandal and it will force them to take a long, hard look at the criminals they have been supporting for four years.

Brian Terry died at the hands of the very government he spent his whole life defending and his murder was partially funded by the stimulus bill and anyone who claims this is simply a political game is being more than just a little disingenuous, and honestly I find their casual defense of this program to be callous and frankly despicable.

These people are unbelievable. I read in the last hour that there was a meeting between Holder’s staff and Issa yonight. Thry presented 30 e-mails out of thousands and said this provre that there was no wrong doing now please drop this investigation. It would be laughable if it wasn’t so serious.

I didn’t see this story Jim but I don’t doubt for a second that it is true because this is how Holder has operated thoughout this whole scandal. He releases a few documents which “prove” he is not quilty, yet refuses to release the vast majority of the documents, and I think we all know the reason why.

FOX (in my weakness and being exhausted I turned on the tube, was too tired to sit at the computer) reported two meetings last night, neither of which had the results that AG Holder was looking for. Was he going to come in and TELL Issa what he was going to do? I think at this late date, his bullying doesn’t have any effect of Issa. Let’s see what today brings, I bet more of the same, an offering of a few choice documents. If he had those before, he could have given them up, so he wants to give as little as possible and then call the shots. I think his calling the shots is pretty much over.

Right now it looks like the vote is on, tomorrow is the big day and it is going to be interesting to see if one side or the other flinches. I heard Steve King on a local talk show today and he wanted to delay the vote until next week because he didn’t want it to be overshadowed by the SCOTUS ruling on Obamacare, and I think he had a point there.

I can see wanting to postpone it, however, if we do that, it gives them more time to spin and move this in a different direction. I think it needs to not be delayed any further, the familys need this.

Very true Lou, and I think it is time as well. It is kind of frustrating because the contempt vote will be ignored by the media under the cover of the Obamacare ruling, but this must continue to move forward!

Elijah Cummings is a stomach turner. He’s done his part in obstructing the investigation. He’ll be in Holder’s corner. As will Waters, Jackson-Lee, Andre Carson, Nancy Pelosi-hard to believe those clowns are elected over and over.

Cummings has been incredibly partisan in this whole investigation while doing his best to discredit Issa and the investigation. He clearly puts politics ahead of what happened in this scandal and I think the people wyou listed do also. There will be many who stick with Holder for political reasons, especially the party leaders, but it will be interesting to see how many break with the party.

Well said Steve. This does indeed go beyond partisan politics. We’re talking about the death of an American citizen by the hands of his own government. Those democrats still defending Holder and the President should be ashamed of themselves. They should be voted out this November because this is much bigger than the shallow games of political theater.

Thanks John, I agree and I think that every single person who sides with Eric Holder needs to be voted out of office in November because the number one priority of the federal government is keeping the people safe and in this instance they did just the opposite.

when janet reno was AG, holder was the attorney who brought the feds in and returned that little boy to his dad in cuba, I knew holder was bad news after that.

Obama is weakened politically. Their fundraising is down, many are beginning to cancel on attending the convention, and Obamacare could be struck down.

If any do jump ship regarding F&F it will merely be because they sense the ship is sinking so it is just a symbol of how damaged Obama has become.

I agree Harrison, those that jump ship will be doing so because they are in a tough reelection battle and do not want to be seen as being close to Obama. Oh how the mighty has fallen.

Harrison, at some point I would think they want to save their jobs. I imagine that they will only be loyal until it starts messing with their paychecks, then they are done.

I believe fox news said that thirty dems were supporting it some time ago, and with the NRA coming out that they will count the vote, it should be good.

I can’t understand why President Obama is sticking by Eric Holder. We all know he isn’t shy about throwing his friends under the bus. Given the fact that his reelection campaign is doing so poorly, I can’t help but wonder why he hasn’t offered Holder on the sacrificial alter of politics.

Larry, maybe we should be asking what Obama has to lose IF he throws AG Holder under the bus. Remember, he does nothing by chance, so what might AG Holder have on him?

Larry, I agree with Lou here; he isn’t throwing Holder under the bus because he is directly involved in this scandal and Holder is covering for him. That is the only explanation that makes any sense to me.
