Did Barack Obama jump the shark with Big Bird?

 Was today the Obama campaign’s jump the shark moment? Probably not, but it could be if he lets it.

 After last week’s debate between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama which resulted in what everyone considered to be a landslide victory for the Republican challenger the president decided he had to try to find something from the debate he could tout as a victory. There really wasn’t anything positive  Barack Obama could take away from the debate so he decided to latch onto a throw away comment by Mitt Romney, which was meant to be funny, about how while he likes Big Bird he would cut funding to PBS.

  The next day Barack Obama joked about how Mitt Romney felt Big Bird was the biggest threat to America. And he continued to use this angle all week long. The Republicans then countered this line of attack by reminding the people that while Barack Obama has mentioned Sesame Street 13 times since the debate he has not bothered to mention the terrorist attack on Libya or his plan to fix the economy once.

  Today the Obama campaign thought it would be a good idea to release a new ad featuring Big Bird while mocking Mitt Romney.

  Admittedly the ad was pretty funny, but honestly releasing parody ads like this is something that seems beneath the office of the president. And I am not alone in this thinking as Politico, NBC, and ABC and even Barack Obama’s propaganda arm, MSNBC, all  criticized the decision to air this ad. Mitt Romney called it head scratching  that Barack Obama would focus on saving Big Bird when he should be worried about “saving the American people and saving good jobs.”

  Eventually the Sesame Workshop released a statement asking Barack Obama to take down the ad because they are a non-partisan group which doesn’t endorse candidates.  The embarrassment is now complete.

  Ironically it was MSNBC’s Chuck Todd to asked the best question:

When is the Obama campaign going to stop talking about the debate? … They cannot seem to turn the page from the debate. … Any conversation about that debate, I assume, helps Mitt Romney

  Barack Obama was so thoroughly thumped during the debate that he should have forgotten about it and moved on; he should have put it in the rear view mirror and moved “forward” but his narcissism wouldn’t allow him to admit defeat so he attempted to turn the tables on Mitt Romney by creating what I guess he would call Romney’s war on children. Today it backfired on him in a big way. Chuck Todd is right; the more Barack Obama reminds the American people about his debate debacle the better it is for Mitt Romney, but in his quest to gain the debate upper hand he seems blinded to this fact. In the end his arrogance could be his undoing.

  When the American people head to the polls they will not be thinking about Big Bird, but this was perhaps his most embarrassing day on the campaign trail and if he is smart he will not bring up Big Bird again. I just wonder if his ego will allow him to admit defeat and let it go.
