Obamacare: 18 Democrats ask for a delay in implementing the medical device tax

December 12, 2012

When Obamacare was being constructed the Democrats made sure that provisions in the legislation which they felt would be popular with the American people would be implemented before the 2012 election, while the provisions which would not be popular would be delayed until after the election, and to be honest it seems to have worked according to plan for the Democrats.

One of the provisions which was delayed until after the election was the medical device tax. In addition to delaying the medical device tax until after the election the Democrats, in their infinite wisdom, also delayed defining which medical devices would be taxed. And as I reported in this post there are some complications with this provision which might actually cause veterinary bills on average American pet owners to increase.

But the complications go well beyond  pet owners paying more for getting Fido his rabies shots because 18 Democrats have signed a letter which was sent to Harry Reid asking the Senate to delay implementation of the medical device tax citing, of all things, the fiscal cliff negotiations.

In this letter these Democrats state that while the medical device industry is profitable and is creating jobs that implementing this tax would hurt the industry to the point where companies may be driven overseas. The last line of the letter states, “we look forward to working with you on this critical issue that will benefit patients, innovators and boost our country’s economic growth.”

But I am confused; I thought we needed to raise taxes to increase revenue and grow the economy? Isn’t that Barack Obama’s plan? Here we have some Democrats admitting that if taxes are raised on this one industry that it might entice companies in that industry to leave the United States; if this is the case isn’t this proof that the Democrats’ plan to raise taxes on all people (and small businesses) making over $250,000 is also going to hurt the economy and possibly drive jobs in other affected industries overseas or force the small businesses to just fold up shop altogether?

We have to read the bill so we can know what’s in it. It just keeps getting better.

What do you want to bet that these Democratic senators have medical equipment supply companies in their districts?

I think you nailed it Larry, I know Massachusetts does and both Warren and Kerry signed the letter. This is interesting because Scott Brown actually voted against this bill and he was sent home by the people.

Yea, Obama’s out to get us all. Taxes on every working stiff are gonna go up. Oh! But let’s not tax the leeches on welfare & food stamps. Oh again! That’s right, they don’t pay ANY taxes.

That’s right, we are all going to be paying higher taxes before all is said and done. This is what America voted for so we shouldn’t be too surprised when it happens. Of course many Obama voters don’t pay taxes so they really don’t care.

Could you imagine both parties working together to get the best medical care for our citizens, and our vets, for all Americans, for the best price.

    Priceless.

Remember the Republican Health Care Plan.

Don’t Get Sick, And If You Do Get Sick, Die Quickly.

Complaining about Obamacare is pathetic. At least our president took on our deathcare for profit system, and tried to find a path forward. Obamacare has a long way to go. But it beats burying 46,000 Americans every year because they can’t get adequate care.

It is time Republicans and “conservatives” (ie fake conservatives started trying to find real solutions instead of playing politics with people’s lives.

Tell you what anti taxers. Stay off the roads, and if you see a doctor, pay cash. Fair?

Actually the constitution does grant the federal government to raise money for roads. We don’t think there should be no taxes, we just think they should be limited to the reasons enumerated in the constitution.

“entice companies in that industry to leave the United States” This problem is easy to solve. Tax the devices when they come back into the US, or tax the companies for their overseas profits and make them pay the taxes instead of sticking the loot in the Caymen Islands. Then they will pay what other industries pay (fairly). Remove the incentive for Benedict Arnold companies to move offshore. For most of our history America’s government was funded through tariffs. Betcha didn’t know that.

Anyone with half a brain can solve most problems.

Sounds good, of course either way the tax will be passed on down to the consumer, so either way we lose. And yes, I did know that.

Thanks ladies. One cenmomt to those who would use my list as a jumping-off point: check with me before you try it. Just because I’ve read it doesn’t mean I’d necessarily recommend it. Even if it’s a part of a series, and I’ve read the whole series, don’t go by that. I’m a bit OCD. I may not like something about the books, but I’m compelled to tough it out anyway for some reason. Like watching a train wreck, you know? No reason for you to go through it, though.
