New Hampshire House to vote on giving lawmakers free ski passes
I am not going to spend too much time on this because it appears to be dead on arrival, but it deserves mentioning because it epitomizes what is wrong with our government: the New Hampshire House is set to vote on Wednesday on whether or not they should get free unlimited lift tickets to Cannon Mountain.
This is how supporters of the measure justify their position:
Supporters argue that lawmakers have open access to state parks which promotes awareness of the locations
Unbelievable! By skiing for free they are claiming it will help raise awareness of the ski country! I guess this is what they consider sacrificing for the public good.
New Hampshire legislators are part time employees who only earn a few hundred dollars for their service and opponents of this bill rightly point out that using the free tickets six times would be of a value double their salary:
Opponents say using the perk a half dozen times would be worth twice as much as lawmakers’ biennial salary.
In 2010 the Republicans made huge gains in the New Hampshire House and Senate and they used their veto proof majority to focus on cutting taxes and spending, but for trying to usher in fiscal responsibility they were rewarded in 2012 by losing seats in the State Senate and losing the majority in the State House.
With a Democrat majority in the House one of the first issues they decided to deal with was issuing themselves perks in the form of free ski tickets while most Americans are still trying to get by in Barack Obama’s economy.
This is what is wrong within the federal government and many of the state governments; the politicians are more worried about what they can do for themselves and they couldn’t give a damn about doing what is best for the American people.

That is some gall! Are things booming in New Hampshire? Is that why they think they deserve some pork for themselves? Geeeez!

Apparently things are better in New Hampshire than I thought if this is what is most important.

Well, I’ll try to put a positive spin on it by saying at least they’re taking a vote.
