Eric Holder says drone strikes against Americans in the United States is legal

March 6, 2013

Yesterday Eric Holder admitted that he thought drone strikes on United States citizens in America is legal and constitutional under certain circumstances. This is what he had to say:

It is possible, I suppose, to imagine an extraordinary circumstance in which it would be necessary and appropriate under the Constitution and applicable laws of the United States for the President to authorize the military to use lethal force within the territory of the United States

Were such an emergency to arise, I would examine the particular facts and circumstances before advising the President on the scope of his authority

The scope of the president’s authority is already well defined, perhaps Eric Holder has never heard of posse comitatus, so I shall take a moment to inform him: In 1878 the Posse Comitatus Act was passed which made it illegal for the federal government to use the United States military against the people of the United States without an Act of Congress. It is illegal for the president to execute an American citizen without a warrant and without charges. It seems to me as if these drone strikes that Eric Holder is defending would fall under posse comitatus.

In addition to Eric Holder’s defense of drone strikes on United States soil we have also learned here that the Department of Homeland Security has modified  drones to detect when American citizens are carrying weapons and also to track cell phones.

What exactly is the federal government preparing for with this and the news that they are buying millions of rounds of hollow point bullets and thousands of armed vehicles in addition to the drones?

Have no fear, Eric Holder has clarified his position; he claims the government has no “intention” of using drones against Barack Obama’s subjects. He still didn’t rule out the possibility, he simply stated the government doesn’t intend to use drone strikes at this point. He left the door open.

This is the slippery slope many of us feared when we learned that Barack Obama ordered a drone strike on an American citizen and his teenage son on foreign soil without any proof they were plotting against America. It now appears as if the regime is ready to take this policy to the next level.

The only question I have is this: If Barack Obama expands his kill list to include Americans on United States soil which side will the military come down on?

Normally I would say they will come down on our side but we have already seen the president remove several officers from duty for trying to come to the defense of Chris Stevens and the three others who died in the September 11th terrorist attack in Benghazi, what if he is systematically removing all officers who would oppose this action and replacing them will people who will support him if it ever comes down to it?

I call Bull Shit! If it wasn’t legal before they had drones, what makes it legal now? We have some very dangerous people in our government, Steve.

There sure are dangerous people in our government and they seem to grow stronger and more emboldened everyday! How are things down your way with the death of Chavez? I hope all is well Jim.

I have been thinking about this all day. The most troublesome part of this issue is how unconcerned so many Americans seem to be about the implications and possible misuse of a drone policy such as the one being advocated for by the Obama administration. If our citizens are so blind, deaf, and dumb that they can not see the danger in this, then maybe we deserve what is likely coming down the pike.

I have been worried about this for some time Larry and now it seems as if my fears were justified. In a way we deserve this because we reelected Obama, you get the government you deserve and now it may be too late to stop him.

You would think that most Americans would be up in arms over this threat to life and liberty..

If it wasn’t for Paul and his brave stand I would despair. The old bulls lunched with obama while Obama wanted the attention on him. More stagecraft, so Paul and his filibuster would be buried. Well it wasn’t.

Rand Paul is now a hero and a front-runner for the presidency while McCain and Graham are the goats. I wish there are more who stood by Rand but at least there are a few who still dare to oppose Obama.
