Barack Obama to give spy agencies access to all Americans’ financial records

March 13, 2013

According to this article, Barack Obama is in the process of drawing up plans which would allow all United States spy agencies to have access to all Americans’ financial records:

The Obama administration is drawing up plans to give all U.S. spy agencies full access to a massive database that contains financial data on American citizens and others who bank in the country, according to a Treasury Department document seen by Reuters.

The proposed plan represents a major step by U.S. intelligence agencies to spot and track down terrorist networks and crime syndicates by bringing together financial databanks, criminal records and military intelligence. The plan, which legal experts say is permissible under U.S. law, is nonetheless likely to trigger intense criticism from privacy advocates.

Needless to say this is drawing concerns from people who are worried about the privacy aspect of this soon to be policy:

A move like the FinCEN proposal “raises concerns as to whether people could find their information in a file as a potential terrorist suspect without having the appropriate predicate for that and find themselves potentially falsely accused,”

This is being billed as the next step in fighting terrorism, but does anyone else find it ironic that the man who ran for president as opposing President Bush’s warrantless wiretapping program is now all too willing to extend the government’s reach into the financial information of all Americans?

Barack Obama is a fraud, need I say more? Where is the media and where are the leftists who were so distraught over the wiretapping? Why are they silent?

Whatever happened to the concept of probable cause and warrents? They may as well remove the word “privacy” from the dictionary.

Having Brenner in there is not reassuring one whit. They will have dirt on every GOP candidate in 2014.

A scary thought but I don’t doubt for a second that that was part of Obama’s thinking.

When exactly are Americans going to say enough is enough? This is getting so out of hand. We’re not the enemy…or our we?

In Obama’s eyes we are the enemy, if this doesn’t make Americans stand up and say enough is enough nothing will.

Who are these “experts” that say this is legal? They need a warrant to access phone records but they can have your financial records at will? That doesn’t make sense.

Since a majority of Americans are asleep at the wheel this will not set off the alarm bells. The next Orwellian step will be to either eliminate cash or put tracers in every bill and coin.
Catching terorists, I don’t think do. We know where the human offal hangs out around the world and if we and our allies were in this fight for any reason other than keeping gov’t contractors in business these guys, from Somalian pirates to theTaliban to Al Qaeda would be eliminated forthright. This fight on terrorism is a cottage industry that has spawned that bureaucratic monster known as Homeland Security, thanks Bush II, drones on American soil, PC in our military, etc etc etc, and now the elimination of the individual’s privacy.
The war on drugs, the war on terrorism, the war on individuals; which of the three is making inroads against the enemy ? We have met the enemy and they are us- Pogo.

YOu are right, this doesn’t seem to be bothering anyone at all, especially those that claimed they were so opposed to Bush’s policies? Where are all the civil libertarians now?!
