Sequester: Debbie Wasserman Schultz claims her staff is being “priced out” of getting a good meal due to budget cuts

March 23, 2013

When Debbie Wasserman Schultz was asked about how the sequester was affecting the legislators’ office budgets she claimed that her staff was being “priced out” of getting a good meal in town because of the rising prices.

Apparently what she is saying is that while prices are rising the sequester makes it impossible for lawmakers to give out raises to compensate for inflation. Welcome to the real world Ms.  Schultz, what the hell do you think the private sector has been going through for years now?

Many of us who still have jobs haven’t seen a pay increase in years even as prices on virtually everything have been rising, but now suddenly that Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s staff members–who make between $60,000 and $160,000–are seeing less expendable money in their pockets it is a problem? (And do they not get a per diem?) This just shows us the disconnect between people who are making their living on the backs of the taxpayer and the real world and what we are all going through, and we expect them to be able to fix a problem they created in the first place?

She also failed to take into account the effect Obamacare is having on the food and services industries. Restaurants and bakeries are among the industries feeling the most pain from this dreadful law and they are compensating for this by laying off waitstaff or cutting their hours, and raising the prices of food, so perhaps it is time for Ms. Schultz to look in the mirror and take responsibility for once in her life.

We have been told time and time again that in order to get out of this economic crisis we would all have to sacrifice, so Ms.  Schultz it is time to eat your peas, right Mr. President?

I say it’s time for that load of crap DWS to issue powdered milk and government cheese to her now starving staff. The cutting down of meal time will surely cut down on their efficiency but that’s what sacrifice us all about. Maybe the First Elephant Lady can send over veggies from her Eco-friendly anti-global warming White House garden. Hmm, melted velvetta over Obama broccoli …Uhm Uhm Uhm…

She and Feinstein this week have demonstrated their keen insight into how the “masses” make do, as well as their values.

And if that isn’t bad enough voters in her state also sent Allen West home. I don’t know what we can do to change this mentality.

It has to be so frustrating to go through what you have gone through and then listen to an elitist like Schultz try to gain sympathy because her staff can’t go out to eat! Does she even understand how this sounds to the American people? Does she even care?

We are ALL angry about this. That she is so concerned about her staff that is making MUCH more than the average American just does not hit the pity meter with me. She and most of her kind are so out of touch with what is really going on in the country and maybe it is finally catching up to her. My question is how the hell expensive is a “good meal” to her?. Maybe that is what we should be asking. Guess it would be out of the question for them to take a sack lunch to work? Maybe that is only for us peons that pay THEIR salaries. That sack lunch is the difference between living beyond their means or savings to most middle class Americans, but I am sure she doesn’t want to hear about how to “live within your means”. That might imply she is one of us and I can assume she is so much better than that. We are seeing that most in Congress are so far above us. Makes you want to fire them, doesn’t it?

When you compare what she said to what angrymike above has had to deal with it really drives home he disconnection with the American people and infuriates me!
