Democrats in the Congress propose a $10,000 fine on gun owners who do not purchase liability insurance

April 2, 2013

The gun grabbers are now looking at innovative ways to implement gun control laws and the latest example of this is a proposal by Democrats in the Congress to force gun owners to purchase liability insurance before they can practice their second amendment right.

A contingent of liberal Democrats in Congress is proposing a new federal gun control idea: mandatory liability insurance for gun owners.

When New York Rep. Carolyn Maloney introduced the legislation last month with eight other Democrats, she boasted that it is “the first bill to require liability insurance of gun buyers nationwide.”

Maloney’s “Firearm Risk Protection Act requires gun buyers to have “a qualified liability insurance policy” before they are able to legally purchase a firearm.

It also calls for the federal government to impose a fine as much as $10,000 if a gun owner doesn’t have insurance on a firearm purchased after the bill goes into effect.

“It shall be unlawful for a person who owns a firearm purchased on or after the effective date of this subsection not to be covered by a qualified liability insurance policy,” the bill text reads.

Forcing Americans to buy insurance or face a fine, where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, Obamacare.

This is why the Supreme Court’s decision–thanks to President Bush’s nominee John Roberts–on Obamacare was so disastrous and so dangerous; for the first time in American history it has been adjudicated that the American people can punished through taxation for not behaving in a manner the government sees fit. And all this time I thought we fought Great Britain to free ourselves of this type of tyranny.

With the Obamacare mandate being upheld as a tax the government is now free to implement this same type of policy on virtually every single issue and it was only a matter of time before the Congress figured this out, and they have.

With the federal government being emboldened by John Roberts’ decision this will soon be the norm when it comes to government and not the exception. This is only the beginning, and to all the liberals out there who think this is a good idea I would remind you that someday another party may be in control of the government and they may decide to use this same tactic to force you to accept mandates with which you do not agree.

  Tyranny comes in many forms…..

If accurate, we can be sure it will never get out of the House. Waste of time, money and breath on the part of grandstanding reps looking to score points with the kindred souls back home. Neither side of the isle has a monopoly on stupid, unfortunately.

It is true that this will probably never see the light of day, but a precedence has been set and I see a future where this type of legislation will be the norm and that is scary.

Another stroke of left wing incrementalism. We can be sure this will be biting us in the ass before too long ala the EPA, the Dept ofEducation, the Dept of Energy and so on and so on. We taxpayers are nothing more than a pooch they will keep on f_____g.

Exactly! They keep coming at us a little at a time so it isn’t as obvious to us what they are doing until it is too late. The tag line in my header says it all by James Madison: I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpations

I don’t think the bill is anything but a ploy for media attention. It seems to have worked 😉 People in Congress who aren’t committee chairs propose these kinds of outrageous things to placate their base.

I hope that is all it is, but I still fear this type of legislation in the future on many issues because of the SCOTUS decision on the healthcare mandate.

Just as the RINO led republicans are creeping towards amnesty for illegals it won’t be long before their finger is in the air on this gun control crap. A pox on both their houses.

I agree, they will give a little here and there on this issue until in the end there is no difference between the parties on this issue, just as they have on immigration

The Democrats are so wrapped up in their ideological world they don’t even see that they’re destroying their chances for 2014 and possibly beyond. The gun control issue is losing issue for the left because so many on the right, middle, and even on the left feel strongly about gun rights. Look at what happened to them in 1994 when they passed the assault weapons ban. They were ousted and for the first time in 40 years. I think conservatives should use this and remind people that the left wants to take their guns. Bill Clinton tried to tell his fellow Dems this was a losing issue and not to embrace it, but the Democrats just can’t help themselves.

I think they have overreached on this as well John. they underestimated the opposition to new gun control laws and they could pay the price for it, however I have no faith that the Republicans can capitalize on this because there is no way Obama should have won reelection but the Republicans managed to let it happen. They have a messaging problem and until they learn how to fight back nothing is going to change.

Why is it that every proposal for new gun laws and regulations we see being proposed punishes law-abiding citizens? I have yet to see a single thing that will do anything to cut down on gun violence. All of them will put the onus on people like you and me. That tells me where their hearts really are and what they really want to do.

They are not interested in stopping gun violence because they want to use it to push gun control on law abiding citizens. Control is all they are after!

We are living in a world resembling nothing like 1994. The paradigm has shifted to such an extent that emotions fed by lies rule the day. Almost an additional 20 years of dumbing down has put critical thinking beyond the reach of a great majority of Americans. The 2014 elections may just be the icing on the cake as an unopposed and unstoppable Obama and his agenda declares open season on the constitution, our culture and our sovereignty.
As we can see the U.N. is passing an international gun ban which has Obama licking his lips over. The fix is in and it’s almost time to stick a fork into us.

I just hope they keep at it. It is the one issue that will keep the base riled up for 2014. Our last stop to save our country.

It could be, but by the time 2014 rolls around I fear this will be forgotten, just like Obamacare was forgotten last year.

I am of the firm belief that the democrats take back the house in 2014. The right will not come out to vote and the left wing sycophants still have no idea what they are in for as they vote in lockstep for those who are stealing their souls. That being said, the fine on gun ownership is the tip of the iceberg.
