If you think the gun control debate is over you are sadly mistaken

April 29, 2013

Two weeks ago an amendment to the gun control legislation which would require universal background checks for the purchase of all firearm sales failed in the Senate and Harry Reid promptly pulled the entire legislation from the floor. But not before he voted against the background checks as well.

Harry Reid’s vote was simply a procedural maneuver which would allow the legislation to be taken up at a later date, so while those who are opposed to the legislation celebrated it was an incomplete victory.

The King’s Hand, Joe Biden, was the first to hint that the legislation was not dead when he stated that the legislation would be passed before the end of 2013. He also reaffirmed that his boss, Barack Obama, would be looking at more executive action which could he taken in the wake of the failed vote.

And now Joe Manchin has stated that he will be bringing the gun control legislation back to the Senate floor for another vote. While constitution and second amendment advocates won round one that is all it was–round one–because Democrats have no intention of letting the Sandy Hook crisis go to waste.

If the Democrats are one thing they are persistent and we need to match their persistence or else at the end of the day they will win and the constitution, and all law abiding Americans, will lose. We cannot become fat, happy, and lazy with this one victory because the battle is not over. The Democrats will try to distract us with other issues as they move forward with gun control legislation. We cannot let them get away with this sleight of hand.

Sentiment has changed a lot though Dennis, the people are finally clearing the tears and seeing the true uselessness of trying to take guns from those that own them legally. I thoroughly believe that this past tragedy has now lost it’s value to the liberals. I’m not arguing your point, I also believe obama isn’t giving up on this, but for some reason, amidst the mire of democratic destruction of this country, they are failing this time, and I truly believe will continue to fail when it comes to our second amendment. I’ve not felt good about things that have already been lost, but my gut is telling me American will continue to beat this down and until it stops.

I think you are right, the people as a whole do not want this legislation and that is why it ultimately failed but that well not stop the gun grabbers from trying to implement it anyway. The people didn’t want Obamacare and we still got it, the feds simply do not care what the American people want.

        Steve,

“…the feds simply do not care what the American people want.”

That is it exactly! They have their own agenda and they have no qualms about doing whatever is needed to complete their objectives. Stretch the truth, avoid answering questions, give incomplete answers, completely ignore objections from those who oppose their goals. They will lie, use propaganda, demonize those against them, declare anyone who tries to stand in their way an extremist and potential terrorist.

They wanted obamacare to pass – they did anything and everything they had to in order to get it passed. Such wonderful legislation it is, also – the whole country is just thrilled with all the changes to our healthcare system.

They are doing the same thing with gun control. They don’t care what the people actually want, they don’t care that their legislation violates the 2nd Amendment, they don’t care that their new proposals won’t even reduce gun crime and shootings. They are determined to implement more and more control over the people and they won’t stop until they get what they want – our country, our Constitution, and the will of the people be damned!

Exactly Laura, not only do they not care what the people want but they also don’t care about the constitution or following the procedures to pass these laws because the end justifies the means.

I don’t trust any of these clowns. There will be backdoor deals again…just wait and see. The NRA needs to turn up the heat again.

I couldn’t agree more John! I do not trust anyone in Washington at all, Obamacare showed us exactly what these people are willing to do in order to pass legislation. There will be wheeling and dealing and bribes handed out in return for votes and if we are not vigilant they will succeed.

One has to give them credit for persistence. If only we had/ were as much we would have rid ourselves of this clown last election. P.s. looks like Benghazi is going to get resurrected once again with whistle blowers.

They just keep coming and coming until they get what they want; either they pass it when nobody is paying attention or they wear us down to the point where we give up!
When I first heard Benghazi would be back on the table I was skeptical but it is starting to look like this issue may not be dead after all.

B, the persistance shows here in Illinois of how the Democratic machine works. All one has to do is look at Springfield politics and how they have controlled this entire state from Chicago. We are probably the second highest in the nation as far as taxes go AND we are bankrupt, go figure. We have many illegals and out of staters coming here for all the benefits that WE provide with our tax money while we, the people that pay the taxes, are suffering. Yep, take a look at how Illinois is run and you will see how the nation will be run, if this administration gets a majority in both the Senate and the House, come next election.
I am looking forward to seeing how Trey Gowdy handles what is going on with Benghazi, we know there are survivors, we just have to get them to talk about it. I do not think this issue is going away and it might be the families that are forcing the issues and not giving up. I would do the same thing, they deserve the REAL answers, not the pre-fabricated answers that the administration has thought up.

My hope is that Clinton will be held accountable in some form. They gave her a pass at her last hearing.

        Hi lou,

My concern is that no matter what we find out about Benghazi, many people just won’t care. Congress won’t act; no one will pay for allowing that tragedy to happen; and the public will chalk it up to the price some people pay for having a dangerous job.

That would solve the problem of who is to blame AND maybe stop her from running in 2016, a double bonus. We know that the “call” was made to not send in any help by very high up in this administration. I imagine even, by now, the lo-info’s might possibly be questioning this…at least I can hope.

I hope you are right about Benghazi but at this point I am skeptical because every time I think something big is going to happen nothing does. It sounds like some people are going to start talking but I have been let down with this and with Fast and Furious so many times that I doubt we will ever see justice. I hope I am wrong.

I share your concerns Laura, it seems as if people just don’t care about this but maybe it is because many of them don’t know about it because the MSM has been covering up for the Obama regime.

I don’t think anything will happen from bringing this up again Dennis. At least not to Hillary, maybe pass any judgment down to some low level. I don’t think anyone doubts that Hillary is running in 16 and democrats know she’s the powerhouse they need to continue moving their agenda forward. She’ll be protected thoroughly throughout any of this.

That is the name of the game for them, Jim…if they can just a get a piece of what they are after, they are headed in the right direction for them. We all knew this was not a done deal and we have a fight on our hands. If only the NRA continues to stand up for what is our right, BUT, we have to, in turn, back the NRA with our contributions and dues and phone calls and letters. Here in Illinois we are close to getting our Conceal Carry Licenses, that will be another defeat for the Progressives…I can only hope it goes thru. We all know, also, we have evil working against us at every turn in the road, so we must not let our guard down.

The back room deals with the republicans who wear the big boy pants, as with Mitch McConnel’s silent but deadly behind the scenes manuevering providing the life support for the illegal amnesty deal outrage, will provide the impetus for passage of the gun control bill. The democrats have the republicans leadership, and not just RINO’S, in their pocket like so much loose change. If anyone out there really believes that elections will ever change any of this I have a bridge in Brooklyn I would like to sell them. This bill is not dead but
,rather, will provide one of the knife wounds in our constitution’s and Bill of Rights death of a thousand cuts.

At this point it seems as if RINOs are in fact the Republican party so calling them RINOs really isn’t accurate. They seem to be the mainstream Republicans at this point.
