Is border security really in the immigration reform bill? Janet Napolitano has the authority to cancel the fence

June 23, 2013

In an attempt to win over conservatives and Republicans (two very different entities) an amendment was added to the immigration reform bill which we were told would provide for border security.

But is that really the case? According to this article this might all just be smoke and mirrors because while paragraph 1 of the amendment requires 700 miles of fence to be built along the southern border the next paragraph puts discretion on the fence in the hands of Janet Napolitano:

Notwithstanding paragraph (1), nothing in this subsection shall require the Secretary to install fencing, or infrastructure that directly results from the installation of such fencing, in a particular location along the Southern border, if the Secretary determines that the use or placement of such resources is not the most appropriate means to achieve and maintain effective control over the Southern border at such location.

Talk about doublespeak! After authorizing 700 miles of fence the amendment goes on to say nothing is required if Janet Napolitano doesn’t think it is appropriate in certain areas, and she is the one with the discretion over where the fence can and will be built, if anywhere are all.

A bill was already signed and passed to build this same exact 700 miles of fence and to date only something like 30 miles has been built and now we are supposed to believe the Congress is serious this time around?

So what sections of this fence can we expect Janet Napolitano to deem inappropriate? Judging by the past actions of this president and this Congress I would bet on all of it.

We are being played for fools by the Gang of Eight and all of the other Republicans who are now supporting this legislation and we deserve everything we get because this is what we voted for in 2012.

OH COURSE! NOW it makes sense! Dems would never support a bill that requires money to be spent on erecting a 700 mile fence WITHOUT surreptitiously including a way to weasel out of having to actually build it!

They sure are giving us a lot of ammunition to use when explaining why people should support NFP!

I believe that 30 miles of fence is probably all they are able to complete. I have yet to see them get their act together and actually accomplish much of anything. We know that Obamacare will be a total Cluster F**K and this Immigration bill might be worse than that. They are a bunch of inexperienced individuals that are playing around with our lives and doing a very poor job of running the country. I believe we could take anyone off the street and put them into authority positions and they would probably do a better job than what we have in there now. If it was not so serious, it would be laughable.

This is worse than Obamacare because there is always the chance that Obamacare can be repealed. Although the chances of Obamacare being repealed are remote once these illiegals are granted amnesty it is forever, there will be no turning back.

Exactly, there was an ulterior motive behind this “compromise” and that was that they knew it would never come to be. They are giving our party plenty of ammunition, now we just need to run with it!
