Obamacare: Employer healthcare mandate postponed until 2015

July 2, 2013

The Treasury Department has just announced that it is delaying the implementation of the employer healthcare mandate until 2015, claiming more time is needed to insure the mandate is instituted effectively.

We have heard concerns about the complexity of the requirements and the need for more time to implement them effectively,” Mark Mazur, Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy, wrote in a late Tuesday blog post. “We recognize that the vast majority of businesses that will need to do this reporting already provide health insurance to their workers, and we want to make sure it is easy for others to do so

With a huge increase in healthcare coverage expected many companies were going to have to choose between providing mandated healthcare coverage or paying a relatively small fine–when compared with the cost of healthcare insurance–and now that decision was made easier for these companies with the news there will be no penalty for not providing healthcare coverage.

Of course I am opposed to the mandates but the problem here is the fact that while the mandate has been delayed for employers individuals will still be fined if their employers drop healthcare coverage and they cannot afford to pick it up on their own.

While Barack Obama likes to fashion himself as a middle class warrior it seems as if the regime has bowed to the will of big business (at least before the midterm elections) while leaving the American people on the hook once again.

The man who is credited with authoring Obamacare, Max Baucus, has gone on record as stating he fears the implementation of the legislation will be a train wreck and it appears as if his prophesy is coming true right before our eyes.

I wouldn’t want to implement a train wreck just prior to the 2014 elections either… yea, think I’ll leave the results of that for Hilary to deal with…

Exactly, there is no doubt in my mind this was politically motivated. Obama is perfectly happy with leaving this mess for someone else to deal with when he is gone.

    Aw, Steve.

I posted a link to a different story regarding this on the nfp page. I didn’t know you were writing a blog article on it, I would much rather have your article on there, I’m sorry. You can delete my link and post yours, if you would like.

I didn’t know I was going to write about this either until I sat down to blog tonight and saw the story. I am thinking I will leave your post up on NFP and will add mine to the page as well, what do you think?

Why am I not surprised at this move? If this is going to be such a train wreck, and everyone knows it is going to be a train wreck, why in the world are we going through with it? Why not throw it out and start over with reforms that would actually work?

Never mind answering that question. I think we all know the answer.

They all can see this isn’t going well and yet nobody is making a move to correct it and that is because they would rather use it for a political issue than do anything to fix it.

“…throw it out and start over…”

Thank you, that reminded me of something I wanted to ask (of anyone). How often does Congress review the laws they have passed to see if they are effective?

I think the answer to that question is never! Of course the NFP supports reviewing of existing laws for effectiveness!

That’s what thought #6 is for..
        6. Immediate revocation of ANY laws or bills passed that doesn’t pass a simple litmus test: If after 2 years it clearly doesn’t benefit the PEOPLE of the country, remove it. If it benefits government, or business, and not the people, it fails this test.

Wait a minute….you’re that Sonny??? The Sonny who suggested that on the NFP Platform page??? I’m sorry, I didn’t make the connection. That is an awesome idea. Congress doesn’t review previous laws and they should!

        Thanks.

Sorry Laura, I thought being the only Sonny posting here, it would come across. I actually need to amend that statement to “If after 2 years it clearly doesn’t *directly* benefit the People”, as I can see the pro business argument for, “well clearly since it benefited our company, we are able to pass along better benefits to our employees”, which I tried to cover with thought # 7. Difficult, you have to think too much like a lawyer these days.

It’s is big unions boss’s who are the ones who can’t believe Obama and the Dems killed their workers’ golden insurance plans. The big companies are busy figuring out various work arounds to the Obama Care.

It appears Obama Care could help many large companies shed a very expensive operating cost. It appears the penalties may be cheaper then paying for insurance coverage.

“Weaver and Mathews of the [WSJ] Journal report that Bill Miller Bar-B-Q, will offer just such… a skinny plan to avoid the strong penalty. The plan will cover preventive services, doctors’ visits and generic drugs, but not surgeries nor hospital stays, and cost less than $600 a year. …The chain plans to pay the $3,000 penalty for each worker who gets an exchange-plan subsidy.”

A side note: Obama again is breaking the law. There is no provision in OC to allow for changes in the dates of implementation !!! Ah never mind just make it up as you go

The penalties were purposely made cheaper than the coverage so that companies would drop their insurance, it is all part of the plan to go so single payer as soon as possible. I saw that story about Obama breaking the law by delaying the mandate this morning, of course he is not one to let the law get in the way.

No brainier, Hillary wins in a cakewalk. The poop hits the fan after the election and the great unwashed, clueless and brainless before the election will be told, paraphrasing Marie Antoinette, Let them eat shit. Unlike Obama who operates like a passive aggressive Hillary is a flaming bitch who may pull off what ok’ floppy ears couldn’t-dictator for life. The republicans will he bitch slapped into submission.
