Skillet performing ‘Hero’ live at Soulfest 2013
As I sat down at the computer to write about the issues of the day I quickly realized that the fight was not in me, I cannot do it tonight. I am drained and I need a break of at least one night–maybe two or three–to recharge the batteries. It happens from time to time so fear not faithful readers, I will be back, and I think that the bloggers out there realize and understand what I am going through but I still wanted to post something. It is hard to explain but I actually feel guilty when I do not post anything, I do not want to let anyone down so here goes.
For the last three or four years my wife, Lauri, and my two sons, Andy and Tim, have been going to Soulfest but I have not attended. For those of you who do not know, Soulfest is a Christian Rock festival which takes place once a year in the Lakes Region in New Hampshire, and it lasts for four days. There are many bands performing over the course of the event, and with the exception of last year, Skillet is always the main attraction. Every year I hear reviews of the bands from Lauri, Andy, and Tim and I hear about the great show that Skillet puts on.
This year Lauri asked me if I wanted to go on the last day to see Skillet and I replied, rather uncommittedly (I don’t think that is a word, but I claim poetic license), that I might go. After asking me again I agreed to go, I knew a couple of Skillet’s songs and I liked them so why not check out the band live to see what they are about?
My wife and my boys were right, Skillet puts on an amazing show and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I am so glad that I went, it is safe to say that after being together for 30 years my wife might know me better than I know myself.
Skillet opened the show with a song called ‘Hero’ and this song has been stuck in my head, both for the message as well as it being catchy, since last Saturday night. America needs a hero for, as the lyrics go, we are in the fight of our lives:
I’m just a step away
I’m just a breath away
Losin’ my faith today
(Fallin’ off the edge today)
I am just a man
Not superhuman
(I’m not superhuman)
Someone save me from the hate
It’s just another war
Just another family torn
(Falling from my faith today)
Just a step from the edge
Just another day in the world we live
I need a hero to save me now
I need a hero (save me now)
I need a hero to save my life
A hero’ll save me (just in time)
I’ve gotta fight today
To live another day
Speakin’ my mind today
(My voice will be heard today)
I’ve gotta make a stand
But I am just a man
(I’m not superhuman)
My voice will be heard today
Who’s gonna fight for what’s right
Who’s gonna help us survive
We’re in the fight of our lives
(And we’re not ready to die)
Who’s gonna fight for the weak
Who’s gonna make ’em believe
I’ve got a hero (I’ve got a hero)
Livin’ in me
I’m gonna fight for what’s right
Today I’m speaking my mind
And if it kills me tonight
(I will be ready to die)
A hero’s not afraid to give his life
A hero’s gonna save me just in time

Take the time off, you deserve it……

Thanks, I do not think it will be much time off. I am sure something will come along tomorrow or the day after which draws me right back into it!

I know what you’re going through, Steve. I’ve been there more than once. Enjoy some time off and just live and enjoy your family. We’ll be here when you get back. Count on it!

I hear you there, at times they just throw so much at us that it gets overwhelming. Of course that is their plan and we cannot let them get the best of us.

I completely understand, Steve. Somewhere, I misplaced my outrage, my fury, my disgust and cannot seem to summon up any caring at all. I hope it comes back…..

It will come back, of that I am sure. We can get down from time to time as it looks like the odds are too long, but in the end we must keep fighting for as long as we can and I am positive your passion for what we started will come back. We need you!

Maybe today should be a day of posting our favorite “upbeat” songs? I know my favorite one is by Johnny Nash, I Can See Clearly now. I will include it here for you.
We all are burned out at one time or another and that is what this Administration is counting on…problem is, they do not know us well enough to understand we are not quitters, we just have to take a break now and then.

A great idea Lou, thanks for sharing. Well, the IRS managed to suck me back into the fight today. My rest was short-lived. 🙂

Been there, my friend. Although I’m sure people don’t miss me as much as they miss you. Take a breath, relax, get back into the fight. We can’t stop, but we can take a break from time to time.

Thanks for the kind words! I really appreciate it. My rest was short-lived because of the damn IRS!

You will be missed. A good break will refill the batteries. They are counting on us burning out. Too many bloggers have dropped off, but I guess it is not for me to judge. Just when my stats seem to be going down hill, something grabs hold and it makes it worthwhile again. I still have not figured out the topic for sure that are barn burners. The ones that I think don’t much of often are the biggest hits.

The stats can sometime get me down as well. It seems that many times the stories I think are more important don’t get as much interest, while the lesser important stories (like posting something Bill Maher said) seem to do well. It is frustrating to be sure!
The IRS pulled me back in today so the rest was short-lived, maybe I can take tomorrow off but somehow I doubt it. They are trying to wear us out and my stubbornness will not allow that to happen.

Christian Rok is designed to pull you away from God as as it has been compromised. I would strongly reccomend a few lessons on music of God, from my obscure blog to teach how music plays a part in the restoration of all things. For those to worship in a way that is pleasing to God is part of the plan of salvation.

That you will know AS A WATCHMAN. There was one whose coming was foretold by Jesus in the temple. He is the bloodline descendent of Aaron & Moses who lead in the time of the death star Nemisis passover in Egypt. Today his descendent is among us. He is the biblical witness of Ephraim. http://authorthat.wordpress.com/the-heart-to-transend-self-technologyhttp://authorthat.wordpress.com/the-heart-to-transend-self-technology/
