Why is John Boehner silent on Syria? A Congressman asks John Boehner to call an emergency session

August 28, 2013

John Boehner’s silence on Barack Obama’s plan to bomb Syria without Congressional approval is deafening. In fact I would say that by his silence he is in effect supporting the president’s proposal.

One Congressman, Scott Rigell of Virginia, is not happy and has asked John Boener to reconvene the House to debate this issue.

He should be calling the House back right now,” Rigell said of Boehner. “I will be clear on this.”

“I do have a call scheduled with one of our senior leaders this afternoon and I will be making that case,” said Rigell. “I think we’re at this point, and I regret that we’re at this point. But that is where we are

If John Boehner refuses to do so it will be clear that he supports Barack Obama’s plan. John Boehner has been both a diappointment and a disaster as House Speaker, caving in to Barack Obama’s will at every turn and this seems to be the latest example. If the Republicans somehow manage to hold onto the House in 2014 their first order of business should be the removal of John Boehner as the Speaker of the House for it is clear he represents the elitist ruling class in Washington and not the American people.

But Scott Rigell was not through there: he sent a letter to Barack Obama, signed by more than 100 members of the Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, reminding Dear Leader that he needs Congressional approval before attacking another nation when the interests of the United States are not under immediate threat:

While the Founders wisely gave the Office of the President the authority to act in emergencies, they foresaw the need to ensure public debate—and the active engagement of Congress—prior to committing U.S. military assets,” Rigell wrote. “Engaging our military in Syria when no direct threat to the United States exists and without prior congressional authorization would violate the separation of powers that is clearly delineated in the Constitution

This, of course, was the very same position Barack Obama himself once held when he said the following:

The president does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation

So what has changed? The only thing more stunning then John Boehner’s timidness on this issue, and apparent silent approval, is Barack Obama’s 180 degree turn.

As we know by now Barry O can sidestep at will any constitutional restraint on his power. To date he has encountered virtually no resistance from congress or SCOtUS and there us no reason to believe this will end during his reign. He has truly set a precedent for those following him on how they will face off against a weak and indifferent republican house and senate should they have majorities in either or both. Boner is a f___ing disgrace to alcoholics everywhere.

You have a great point; Obama does not see the Constitution as a constraint and that is because he has been able to get away with so much for so long. Who can blame him for feeling this way when you come right down to it?

What has changed? He da’man! That’s what changed. At least he is pretending to be the man. Or, maybe it’s because he’s da’man of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Apparently Boehner does not think this issue is all that important.

Boehner needs to be impeached and replaced. I also have no doubt that “O” has threatened him early on. He was used to Piglosi. I almost feel sorry for him. He should bow out gracefully and someone with cojones take his place.

I agree completely! I think he was compromised when Obama granted federal employees from Obamacare.

President Obama is acting like President Obama always does. His favorite method of operation is to ignore whatever Congress says. He has bypassed them on immigration, healthcare reform, and on Libya. He has completely ignored the requirements set forth by the Constitution many times. If he acts against Syria, he is likely to take the same path and do it without Congressional approval.

Obama feels as if he can do whatever he wants to and who can blame him after the Congress has allowed him to do whatever he wants to for so long?
