Obamacare: Senate Democrats move to punish those who try to reverse the federal workers healthcare exemption

September 16, 2013

When the Congress found out that Federal employees would be subjected to the same healthcare exchanges they foisted on the American people the elitist ruling class politicians in Washington were horrified. People like Harry Reid and John Boehner led the charge to reverse the amendment that Charles Grassley inserted into Obamacare (an amendment they would have realized was in the bill if they had taken the time to read it) but they knew what the fallout would be if they actually held a vote to exempt themselves from Obamacare, so instead they ran to Barack Obama and asked him to do something about it behind the scenes.

Barack Obama rode his white horse to the rescue and ordered the OPM to interpret the law in a way which would exempt Federal employees from Obamacare and the OPM obliged, basically rewriting the law without going through the constitutionally correct procedure while sparing the Congress the embarrassment of voting themselves exempt from a law they passed.

David Vitter then drafted legislation which would reverse this exemption.

Senator Vitter says the OPM ruling has removed “the sting of Obamacare” from Congress. “Many Americans will see their health coverage dropped by employers, and they will be forced into the exchanges,” he told me last week. “If Congress is forced into them on the same terms, it will be more likely to fix Obamacare’s problems for others.”

And that is where things get real interesting!

Needless to say this was meant with scorn and contempt, but the methods the Democrats used to intimidate people in the Congress from voting in favor of his bill is absolutely disgusting.

  First:

several Democratic senators have asked staff to draft legislation that would deny federal health subsidies to anyone who votes for the Vitter plan, even if Vitter’s plan doesn’t become law

If this legislation was passed it would mean that even if David Vitter’s bill did not pass anyone who voted for the bill would lose their healthcare exemption. But then they went even further by going after David Vitter on a personal level:

An even more spiteful draft bill would bar subsidies to any lawmaker or aide found by a congressional ethics committee to have “engaged in the solicitation of prostitution

Of course we all remember that David Vitter was ensnared in the “DC Madam” scandal several years ago so the intent here was clear. These two measures will never pass and the Democrats know it, this was simply a warning to anyone who dares oppose them–do so at your own peril. This is political thuggery and intimidation at it best, or worse depending how you look at it, I suppose.

The message is clear, don’t screw with us. This shows us the depths to which the Democrats will sink to protect their radical agenda and at this point I have to wonder if they actually have something they are able to hold over the heads of most of the Congress. We know the NSA spying scandal targeted members of the Congress and you have to wonder if they all have been compromised at this point.

They are called elites for a reason. They have put themselves above the law and the low imformation voters keep returning them to office at a rate of 94% of the time. We have met the enemy and it is us.

You are right Jim, we keep voting these people in so we are the ones who should take the blame for what they do. By voting for them we are condoning them.

This is absolutely unbelievable. I am at a loss for words. Blackmail, bribes, intimidation, THREATS – completely out in the open. These people are out of their minds – they are dangerously out of control. They actually want legislation that PUNISHES a representative for voting in a way they don’t like!

    I am speechless.

Hmmm, like that doesn’t happen in EVERY administration. I’m guessing you’re pretty young, or uninformed. You should read into the Bush years and the intimidation Cheney pulled off to get contracts for Haliburton…

What happened in other administrations is in the past and there is nothing we can do about it now, we are dealing with serious issues today and to paraphrase Obama on Obamacare, we are not going to re-litigate the past.

Laura, you took the high road! Don will not be coming back so this was the perfect way to respond, no need to waste the effort. If he does come back then you can engage him, but I don’t see that happening.

Thanks, Steve. As I said earlier, I did have QUITE a reply all typed out, but ,sigh, decided against posting it. He did not COMPREHEND the point of my comment, anyway. 🙂

We MUST stop the petty bickering about which elected official was the worst, which political party is ‘right,’ which policies did more damage to our Country. That accomplishes NOTHING! It is encouraged and facilitated by our elected officials and the political parties to keep our attention OFF what they are doing in D.C. – to keep us ‘peons’ in our place.

It will be impossible to correct the course our Country is on – to keep the Country GOING – if we don’t realize that we are ALL being played by the so called ‘leaders.’ We have to get past the need to identify with a particular party, come together as a Country of FREE people, and change what we allow the federal government to do.

Well said Laura, his only defense of Obama was that others have done this before. As if that makes it right! It is time for Americans to realize that it is not right no matter which party does it and it is time for Americans to realize that both of these parties do not have our interests at heart, only then can we change the culture in Washington. Simply saying that the other party did it also is no longer an acceptable argument, if Don had bothered to read anything else that I wrote he would have seen that I no longer support one party blindly over the other. Wrong is wrong no matter which side does it.

It is absolutely sickening! There are not enough words to describe my disgust, we are now seeing Chicago politics on a national level and it is not pretty, to say the least.

You and I see to be running on the same page this week! The problem is the dems don’t know what to do with these kind of politicians. They are not for sale, and unwilling to trade their principles. I give Vitter credit. With his issue it would have been a lot easier to sell out.

Yes we are! With Syria behind us we can now focus on all the other issues that were swept under the rug for a few weeks.
