Obamacare: The healthcare exchange software is miscalculating rates

September 21, 2013

At the time of this writing the Obamacare healthcare exchanges are set to begin in ten days; the time is fast approaching when those who do not have healthcare insurance  are going to have to begin to sign up for it or face the wrath of the corrupt and partisan IRS.

While the employer mandate was delayed (illegally) for one year in order to give corporations enough time to comply with the law the individual mandate remains in place. This means in ten days people without insurance will have to start signing up for it through the healthcare exchanges even though, much like the employers which were exempted, it turns out the government is not actually ready to roll out the exchanges.

According to this article the software which calculates the costs individuals must pay for healthcare, and what subsidies a person is qualified for, is not working properly and is actually miscalculating rates.

“There’s a blanket acknowledgment that rates are being calculated incorrectly,” a senior health insurance executive told the WSJ. “Our tech and operations people are very concerned about the problems they’re seeing and the potential of them to stick around.”

What is the government’s response to this troubling news? Move along, nothing to see here. Everything will be just fine, just you wait and see. Trust us. Well, that is not exactly the government’s response, but it is an accurate representation of the government’s actual opinion:

Government officials, however, say they are not worried and promised the Obamacare insurance exchanges will be ready to go on October 1. “We continue working with [insurers] and we are confident that on Oct. 1, consumers will see accurate premium costs, including tax credits,” said Medicare spokesperson Brian Cook.

And we are to believe everything will be okay because we all know how efficient the Federal government is, right? I mean, they have only had five years or so to get this up and running, what did you expect?

This is what happens when the government inserts itself into a problem under the guise of, and with the promise of, making something better. There is a quote floating around out there that is being attributed to Thomas Sowell which sums this whole situation up: There is nothing so bad that politics cannot make it worse.

And yet here we go full steam ahead…..

When I first heard this yesterday my conditioned response was to yawn. Considering the size and scope of Obamacare relative to Medicare the $ 3-400 billion in waste and fraud in Medicare is chump change compared to the abuse waste and fraud inherent in a government run program of this size. Computer run actuary tables running amuck create hardly a whimper in today’s world submerged in unadulterated corruption.

We can only hope more of this comes out in time. I am not sure what “in time” means! One thing I do think is that the GOP kerfuffle over the defunding has put the topic out there.

That is a good point, even if this ends up failing at least the issue is back in the news and getting coverage. With Obamacare being so unpopular maybe some good can come of this yet.

Isn’t Cruz threatening to filibuster? Should be entertaining if nothing else. Whether the rest of the Republicans in the Senate stand up for us remains to be seen. We know that McCain will be a big fat NO, but I just don’t know about the rest. We know that Reid will have some sneaky shit up his sleeve, so hope the Republicans know this is the last dance for them. I doubt we will have another chance. As for the cost of Obamacare, we all, here, knew it was not going to be cheaper. Maybe the people on the dole will still get it free, but we will be royally screwed out of what little money we have left to pay for all the free loaders.
On a side note: we drove past a stand that had a sign saying “Free Government Phones”, might stop next time and see if we are eligible to get a couple. That it has come to this, is sad, what was a great country is so far gone, doubt we have a chance to prop it back up.

Yes Cruz is threatening to filibuster and I hope he does because seeing Paul hold a real filibuster was great and I would love to see it again. Hopefully he will have some support.
I can’t believe they actually had an Obamaphome stand set up! Nothing like pimping to his constituents, I guess. I will be interested to hear what they tell you if you do stop, and more interested if they actually tell you that you are qualified!

I won’t do it. I’m not going to sign up and I’m going to redo my tax exemptions so that I OWE money. Then, I won’t pay the unconstitutional tax the government is illegally imposing on me for simply being ALIVE!

I have heard that they only way they can hit a person with the penalty is by taking it out of your tax return. If you don’t have money coming back they cannot punish you. There seems to be more and more people who are going to try this, if enough do it will be interesting to see how the Feds respond!

I won’t do it, Steve. I’ve just had it with this government – not just dems – BOTH parties, thinking they control the People. They can throw me in jail for all I care about following their ‘law.’

        I AM FED UP!

I am right there with you! I am so tired of both of these parties doing what is best for them while ignoring the American people!

Since no one is working and won’t owe taxes they may have to payfor Oscamacare on the backs of those making a killing on entitlements. I love a good irony…
