Obamacare: Barack Obama admits healthcare reform did raise taxes on “some things”

September 25, 2013

Do you remember when Barack Obama promised that under his healthcare plan Middle Class America would not see their taxes raised even one thin dime? I do, but if you have forgotten, here is what he said:

“I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increases. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.” – Barack Hussein Obama, Sept. 12, 2008

“If your family earns less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime. I repeat: not a single dime.” – Barack Hussein Obama, Feb. 24, 2009

That facade was torn asunder when Chief Justice John Roberts issued his disastrous Supreme Court decision redefining the individual mandate as a tax. But still the president clung to his claim that he did not raise taxes on the Middle Class.

However, now that he has been safely reelected, and can be more flexible, he is finally admitted that Obamacare did in fact raise taxes on “some things.”

During his Tuesday remarks at the Clinton Global Initiative, President Obama admitted that his health care law raises taxes:  “So what we did — it’s paid for by a combination of things. We did raise taxes on some things.”

The second article linked to above then goes on to include a partial list of what constitutes “some things” and while not complete the list is pretty extensive. As the linked to article states, “some things” is an understatement.

And this is coming from someone who once fashioned himself as the Middle Class Warrior. Barack Obama is nothing but a fraud and a liar, Joe Wilson was just the first person to see this, and I cannot help but wonder if the people who supported Barack Obama are beginning to feel a little buyer’s remorse. Probably not, that Kool-Aid tastes pretty damn good…..

We can only hope this whole thing gets repealed. Low information voters around where I live are convinced they will be getting big bucks back to help with their insurance. In fact most are. A family of four making $50000. Will get a subsidy. No documentation required on income, what could go wrong.

That is our only hope but at this point I do not see it happening. This is designed to increase the dependent class and it looks as though it is going to work perfectly.

There’s only one way to make it go away and that is to retake the Senate and then the White House… If the Dems remain in power we are done for…

Not sure even that will work when taking the senate back includes the likes of John McCain and Lindsey Graham. Ted Cruz will tell you.

That is so true. The leftists are using the peoples’ own ignorance against them and that is a hard thing to fight against. They have already sold their votes for money and are not about to vote for people who want to stop the spending.

He says they raised taxes on some things? To pay for some of the other things? From what I can tell, they went looking for some things on which they could levy new fees and taxes. Medical equipment, etc. They just picked them out of thin air because they were there.

And when they need more money to keep this afloat they will look for more money by taxing more things.

I am not a lawyer but here is my question, this statement from Wikipedia “On December 24, 2009, the Senate passed an alternative health care bill, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (H.R. 3590).[2] In 2010, the House abandoned its reform bill in favor of amending the Senate bill (via the reconciliation process) in the form of the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010.” So Obamacare arose in the Senate, Justice Roberts declared it a Tax. Constitution Article 1 Sectiom 7 says “All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.” Am I missing something? Isn’t this Unconstitutional?

Nothing us unconstitutional now that we have one man rule in both the executive and legislative branches; and with the out of touch judicial branch it’s a trifecta.

The question before the court was on the Commerce Clause not on taxation, but in the ruling Roberts declared it a tax and it seems no one has acted on that

One theory I’ve read is that Roberts was actually brilliant by saying the ONLY way the ACA COULD be Constitutional was IF it was a tax.

I hope I explain this correctly….a tax can’t be challenged until it is ACTUALLY levied. Since the ‘tax’ is not in effect yet, it can’t be challenged. However, when it does go into effect, people may then challenge obamacare as an unconstitutional tax.

True? I don’t know….I’m not a Constitutional scholar (harumph, harumph).

        I left out part. 🙂

SCOTUS ruled the individual mandate was NOT Constitutional under the commerce clause – the feds don’t have the authority to force us to buy health insurance.

They ruled the mandate could only be Constitutional as a tax. However, the feds taxing authority is tied to ACTION on the part of the individual – earning, buying, owning, using; their taxing authority does NOT extend to INACTION – not participating in commerce.

Well, since it’s NOT Constitutional for the government to FORCE us to buy health insurance under the commerce clause, TAXING us for NOT buying something they DON’T have the authority to mandate we buy, is an unconstitutional tax. Obamacare is, in effect, taxing us just for being alive.

Did I clarify or muddy things up, lol?

I have heard that a tax cannot be challenged until it is levied so perhaps this will once again make its way through the courts. Whether Roberts did this on purpose I do not know.

I hope so, but why if so why didn’t he just strike down the mandate when he had the chance? That is what doesn’t make sense to me about this theory.

I’m thinking in 2014 things could get nasty when people finally realize the total impact of ObamaCare and now they will also be paying much higher cost for electricity if the new power plant CO2 regs go through. The middle class is toast in 2014.

It appears we are stuck with this train wreck forever, no matter who takes the Senate or the White House. It’s become crystal clear to me after the last few days that only Senator Cruz and less than a handful of others are serious about doing anything about this. The rest of the Republicans seem to want to keep this, some of them just as bad as the Democrats, for some reason. Having control over a sixth of our economy, perhaps?

Once this is implemented it will never be repealed. I have a theory on the Republicans: I think they have made the political calculation that they can win more votes by opposing Obamacare than they can by repealing it. If they repealed it the issue would be dead and they couldn’t run on it.

If billions are pumped into Obamacare will this money go into the general fund like SS, Medicare and the highway trust fund so that it will be available for the insatiable vultures in congress and the White House to feast on at their pleasure? if so This may explain many things.

Conservative mental impairment only allows for some RWer posters to have a one track mind, yet they have no real argument, just blame one guy they hate for all they see wrong in the world and make damn sure they repeat ad nausea.
For the past four years, here is a crowd of hateful crybabies who have been definitely the most disrespectful of a sitting President surely in American History (F.Y.I to the extremist right, YES HE IS the President).
Obama isn’t a great President (personally I think neither Romney or Obama are worthy choices), but the idea that he is Muslim, homosexual, a dictator, evil, anti-American, etc is silly. You clearly don’t agree with his politics, but that is no cause to be insulting and/or invent things.
I would argue that Obama isn’t destroying America … the ideological impass between the Democrats and Republicans is. The President can’t destroy the US, nor can he rescue it. The reality is that the President can damage the economy but can’;t rescue it. Anyone who thinks Romney … who has only got experience bankrupting companies and moving jobs offshore … can help the economy with a plan he won’t define (but experts say doesn’t hold water) is plainly delusional.
It’s no mystery here that I’ve been critical of many of Obama’s policies, however, I have spoken out when he has been unfairly characterized or treated by the right-wing media or absurd wing-nuts (some of whom post on this blog) in a variety of ways which contradict each other, and NONE of which Obama is: Liberal, Marxist, Communist, Socialist, A Muslim, anti-American, not American, gay, traitor, Usurper, an Enemy of America, a Racist, a Narcissist, a Liar, and on and on. In an alphabet of lies from the right I posted, I’ve said this fact once, I’ll say it again. The only reason the party of hypocritical louts choose to call Barack Obama a Marxist, Communist, Muslim is for the sole purpose that they cannot call him what they really want to call him, and that is NIqqER!
Most notably, the patrons of hate radio (or talk radio) such as Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, and the worst of all, Rush “The head racist” Limbaugh.
Finally, the constant calls for impeachment. It seems that the haters need to look up the word, why else explain the sick mentality from the racist right don’t understand that for the last four years, Barack Obama has NOT done a damn thing worth being impeached over, and if they say he has, I assure you 100% that reason is ONLY because he’s black.
Not because he “Ineligible”. He has proven time and time again he was born in America, NOT Kenya as the racist right falsely claim.
Not because his birth certificate is a “fake”. It has been proven time and time again that his birth certificate (both short and long form) are legit under the state of Hawaii, NOT ANYWHERE ELSE!
But only because he’s NOT a War-mongering, Money hungry, oil-loving white man.
So in closing, you hypocritical racists are in NO position to be calling Barack Obama a liar of any kind, when for the last four years, he has faced constant, unrelenting, mean-spirited, dishonest criticism since before he took office and every day since. He has suffered innumerable lies about his ideology, religion, family and even his place of birth. No other president in the history of this country has faced such unfounded open hostility and disrespect. No other president has ever been called a liar by a member of congress during a State of the Union, no other president has had to show his birth certificate…repeatedly.
Right-Wing America: We Screwed up the country, but thanks for blaming on the Black guy

Perhaps you were sleeping when Bush was president because the left wasn’t exactly respectful of him. Harry Reid actually called him an idiot on television and the Republicans have never come close to anything like that. The closest was when Wilson called Obama a liar. It goes both ways but your selective amnesia tells us all we need to know.

I apologize in advance, Steve and readers, for my language.

      zabar,

I am speaking for myself only, do not take my words out on Steve or anyone else who comments on this blog.

Thanks for sharing your OPINION with us.

      Now, please…shut.the.fuck.up.

You know nothing and you SEE nothing. Everything you accuse ‘right wingers’ of being and doing is ACTUALLY done by the left. YOU are the racist one, YOU believe the only POSSIBLE reason ANYONE – black, white, blue, green – could have for disliking obama’s words and ACTIONS is because they are racist. You can’t admit to yourself that obama was one big ass mistake, so you accuse people of not liking obama because he is HALF black – because they are racist.

BULLSHIT! Here’s a little secret – when people claim EVERYTHING & EVERYONE is RACIST – it loses its meaning. Don’t you get it? ACTUAL racism is ignored, dismissed, denied, because some people SEE EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE as racist.

      Boy.Wolf.

Look within yourself, examine everything obama has done, and open your eyes. Admit to yourself that if obama was a white conservative, people would be calling for his head. Admit to yourself that YOU are afraid of being seen as racist if you acknowledge that OBAMA SUCKS as president; if you acknowledge that obama is one of THE WORST, weakest, most unprofessional, most incompetent, most partisan, most divisive, and most DANGEROUS presidents we have had.

Now, take your hypocritical, racist, partisan, willfully BLIND, insulting, uninformed opinions some where someone – anyone – might possibly be interested in reading your opinions. If you can find that place or that someone, that is….

There is no need to apologize for language here, this is a free speech zone! 🙂 I do not censor anyone but I try not to swear in my posts but every once in awhile I cannot help it, sometimes it is the best way to get your feelings and passions across.
You nailed it again, people like this are the true racists for they see everyone through the prism of race while accusing others of doing the same.
All zabar has to do is read the New Federalist Party platform to see that we have the most equal and honest platform of any party out there today. 😉
