Government shutdown looms as the Senate prepares to reject the latest House proposal

  We all know the story: The House passed a continuing resolution which would fund the entire government with the exception of some portions of Obamacare (some of the law was written to unconstitutionally fund the program without Congressional approval) and the Senate promptly amended the proposal to remove the defunding language before sending it back to the House.  

  All eyes were on the House today to see what the next move would be and now we have our answer. The House is going to vote to fund the entire government, including Obamacare, with the provision that the individual mandate be delayed for one year.

  This would give the Democrats everything they supposedly want and Obamacare would be intact albeit delayed by one year. The Senate, which unlike the House, couldn’t be bothered to remain in session over the weekend during this crisis so they will not be voting on this proposal until Monday, a few hours before the government is set to shut down.

  The Senate’s lack of a sense of urgency most likely means that a government shutdown is all but certain because Harry Reid is already rejecting the proposal on its face.  In fact, it appears to me as if this is what they want because the Democrats feel they can benefit from it politically.

  While people like Barack Obama are blaming extremists in the Republican party, and while Harry Reid is blaming anarchists in the Republican party for what is about to take place, there can be no doubt that if a shutdown does occur it will because the Democrats in the Senate did not want to provide individual Americans with the same one year mandate delay they provided for their corporate masters.

    Remember Obama’s maxim – You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. (Rahm Emanuel) Obama will find the cruelest things to do if there is a government shut down.

      Exactly Chris and that is why they have refused to pass a budget, settling on these CRs every few months.They like to have this “crisis” mentality every few months. And yes, Obama will make this as painful as possible in order to win political points.

    I may be beating a dead horse, but I have had enough of the bullies who are passing themselves off as Democrats.

    First of all, the delay of Obamacare they don’t like is the same delay Obama has granted to his friends in the unions and big business. Why are they so against granting the same thing to the American people.

    Second, we have compromised enough. Time to draw a line in the sand and call their bluff.

    If the REpublicans can not get the message out that it is Obama and the Democrats who would shutting the government and Obama alone deciding what bills not to pay, then there is absolutly no hope for them.

      This is in the hands of the Democrat controlled Senate now and if there is a shutdown the Republicans had better do a better job of making sure people understand they passed a bill which funded the whole government and Obamacare, and they best make sure the people understand it was the Democrats who rejected it.

    I see the same usual outcome, the Republicans will cave when Reid flexes his muscles and he will get what he wants. We will see Reid, Schummer and Durbin standing in front of a mic with the usual smurks on their faces when this happens. I cannot stand any of them! Larry, once again we will see the hurting and suffering going to those that do not deserve it, nothing changes. Politics at its best, folks!

      You are probably right, but I didn’t think the Republicans would hold out this long so perhaps there is hope. Probably not though, we have seen this too many times in the past and we know how this ends.

    Only this time they may be joined with such Republican stalwarts as John O’Bagy McCain and others who know which side their bread is buttered on. Make no mistake, the Democrats are prepared for any and all contingencies as regards blaming the Republicans for any outcome. When Obama Care crashes and burns the Republicans will be held responsible and when the democrats legislate for more money to be thrown at it the Republicans will have no choice but to go along. This law/tax will take its rightful place alongside the other corrupt and failed social programs. By then most Republican and Conservative voters will be boycotting the elections since voting in a one party system serves no purpose.

    No doubt if there is a shutdown, the Obamacare registration for the exchanges, or lack thereof will be blamed on the GOP as well. Never ends.

      But if the American people really are against Obamacare in the numbers we are being told this could end up being a plus. At least I hope so, we all know the MSM will do whatever they can to paint this as a huge “crisis” brought on by the Republicans.

    Gentlemen,

    It is past time to acknowledge that the republican party as we knew it, is no more. Conservative ideals and principles are still alive and well, but the republican party is no longer the champion of these ideals.

    Our ‘representatives’ in Congress went from demanding the defunding of obamacare, to now begging for just a delay and a repeal of PART of obamacare. When the senate rejects this ‘compromise’ our ‘representatives’ will give up even more so that their ‘reputations,’ their ‘image,’ is that of not being extremists.

    The public image of the republican party is tainted beyond repair – too many people believe the lies of democrats and the media. We cannot change that image by trying to work within the party. The ‘leadership’ and the money people will not allow that to happen. The republican establishment will continue to support RINOs and demonize those who want to obey the Constitution and shrink the size of the government. The people will continue to vote for those RINOs as the lesser or two evils; and/or NOT vote because they are dissatisfied with the candidates offered by the party. Democrats will continue to win and the Country will continue down the road it is on – total control by the government and the ever shrinking of the scope of our Rights – tyranny.

      Well said Laura! The Republicans gave up a little bit when they didn’t stick to their guns, looking instead to delay instead of defund and as the negotiations move on they will give up more. If they do not cave completely. While the delay is better than nothing the Republicans should have stuck to their guns on this, but they are weak and the no longer represent us.

    As when Newt shut it down, I don’t see this going anywhere. The GOP has to build a grassroots revolt to this. I don’t see that they have so they will lose the PR war I think.

    I saw this very simple comment over at Lucianne.com this morning, it made sense. It said “For those who parrot, ´´It´s the law of the land´´ I would remind them in 1861, slavery was the law of the land.” When we think we have to comply to what the Government puts forth that we did NOT want, maybe we should think of this statement. We are supposed to be in control here, but this Administration has their bluff in on us to make us think THEY call the shots. Remind me why our fore fathers did what they did? Was it to let this kind of crap happen? I am pretty sure it was not. I guess we have (present company excluded) become the “sheeple” that people write about in articles.

      When someone says that, I laugh. So what that it’s the law of the land NOW. We aren’t STUCK with this monstrosity unless we ALLOW ourselves to be stuck with it; unless we GIVE UP and accept that the government is our master and we are nothing but slaves.

      It WILL be harder to rid ourselves of this after it takes effect. We will need to replace MANY current representatives, with ones who will obey OUR will.

      As far as the ‘sheeple’ go, the ones who believe government makes the decisions and we can only follow those decisions, all we can do is keep trying to educate them.

      The ‘sheeple’ who WANT the government to take care of them, they are beyond educating. We just have to hope and pray there are more of US than there are THEM.

        I am beginning to wonder how many there are of “us”, Laura! It seems that a lot of people I talk to that might have put up a fight, just say “we are screwed” (something other than that, but will leave that word out of this post)and they just are giving up and just trying to take care of their own family. I have some older friends in their 80’s that just say “God will provide”, and while I respect their thoughts on it, I believe it is going to take us, as well to straighten this mess out. The young people I know, feel like they were “taken” and they are right. Really it is not their fault, they are still impressionable and Obama talks the talk and they bought it. He has fooled a lot more savvy people than 20 or 30 year old kids. Now a lot of them know differently, will it make a difference the next time we vote??? I can only hope. I am not holding my breath like so many people that are counting down to the “shut down”, it is all for show, we know that, don’t we???

        I think there are more of ‘us’ than we realize. The internet has been invaluable in bringing ‘us’ together. What we lack is ONE person, idea, goal under which we can all gather and work together. Many people are still thinking that it is the republican, tea, or libertarian party. None of those are ‘teh one,’ though. I am NOT arrogant enough to say that the New Federalist Party is ‘teh one,’ but it COULD be. The ONLY way our votes will make a difference is if we have a NEW CHOICE; a REAL choice other than the lesser of two evils. Our Country NEEDS new blood, needs representatives who KNOW the way our federal government is operating is ILLEGITIMATE and UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Representatives who WON’T be satisfied with getting SOME of what the People want, but will fight and fight and NOT compromise until the People are, again, in control of our CREATURE and the direction of our Country.

        I read comments from people of faith who are of the same mind as your older friends – God will provide. Yes, God DOES provide, but God helps those who help themselves. Some people think that what is happening is God’s plan and to fight against this, to try and change this, is going against God’s will. These people will just let events transpire, without objection, because they believe it’s all according to what God wants. I say hogwash! NO ONE knows what God’s plan is, no one knows what His will is. God gave us brains, He gave us free will. He gave us the ability to differentiate between right and wrong AND the ability to fight FOR right and AGAINST wrong. I won’t accept that we should ‘stand we here idle’ and LET the WRONG things happen without a fight.

        Just call me Patrick Henry. 😉

        It is a very flimsy argument by people who have nothing else to fall back on. We are just supposed to accept everything without question? Just because something is a law doesn’t mean it is a good law or that we must accept it. We must fight to bring this nation back to its constitutional rights and with people like this out there it is a reminder of how difficult a task this will be.

People cannot sit back because they believe there is a higher power without considering that that higher power is moving people to confront what we are facing today.

    I have made the mistake of turning on C-span I and II, wish I had not! You should hear the bellyaching going on!!! Next the Republicans will have Dogs and Cats sleeping together…it is sickening. It is ALL the Republicans fault and the Democrats are totally innocent. Give me a break

    It is a new day and Obamacare is kicking in, yeah! I read that a Kansas Congressman tried to go online this morning to sign up and well, let’s just say it was a “cluster*uck”. It is not going to be up and running, at least not smoothly. California has taken it offline and I would be willing to bet that most states are experiencing “issues”. I read that Obama said that we could not get rid of it and the Congressman said that Obama cannot even get it started. What a mess we have allowed to happen. I was thinking when I woke up how great it would be if we “little people” could go to the Senate or House floors and have a little 5 minute “talk” of our own. I would of course go after the usual suspects, but this bickering going on in the Republican party has to stop, as well. Then I would say how displeased I was with Obama as a president. I know I would have a lot more to say and they really need to hear it ALL. I know this is a pipe dream and you know when you first wake up how things seem great, for about 30 seconds and then reality sinks in? Well, it did and now I am in a pissy mood once again. Just my thoughts on the matter!

      The roll out has been full of problems and while the Democrats will claim this is normal and should be expected the fact remains that they had years to prepare for this and they are not prepared. This is what happens when the government runs anything, are we really surprised by this? (Rhetorical question)
