Harry Reid on funding children’s cancer research: “Why would we want to do that?”

October 2, 2013

Time to meet demagoguery with demagoguery: The Democrats and the mainstream media are nothing but demagogues, and we saw a perfect example of this when they tried to claim that because of the “Republican” shutdown there would be no funding for children’s cancer research.  Once again the Democrats trotted out children’s issues and used them for pawns in their political game in order to cast the Republicans in the wrong on this issue.

The problem is the little fact that the House actually sent over a funding bill for the NIH which was rejected by Harry Reid, so it turns out that the Democrats’ all or nothing position is what is actually holding up the funding for this research.

Harry Reid was pressed on this issue by Dana Bash and, as he is not used to being pressed on an issue by the mainstream media, in the heat of the moment he said something quite revealing.

  Here is what went down:

If you can help one child, why won’t you do it?’ asked CNN reporter Dana Bash.

‘Why, why, why would we want to do that?’ countered Reid.

‘I have 1100 people at Nellis Air Force Base that are sitting home,’ because of government employee furloughs, he told Bash and a roomful of other journalists. ‘They have – they have a few problems of their own.’

‘This is – to have someone of your intelligence suggest such a thing maybe means you’re as irresponsible and reckless.’

Why would he want to do that? he has bigger fish to fry I guess. In a moment of weakness he let on that this is about politics and about blaming one side over the other and not about what is doing best for the American people or for the children. And what does Harry Reid do when confronted on this issue? He tries to turn the table on the questioner by attacking the person asking the question in an attempt to turn Dana Bash into the bad guy for doing her job.

Do I really believe that Harry Reid doesn’t care about funding children’s cancer research? No I do not, but what we heard here was a man who is not used to being criticized by the media become flustered under scrutiny and he stumbled his way through his answer.

However, this is the same type of demagoguery which Democrats use against Republicans all the time. Who could forget the war on women or the Republicans want you to get sick and die attacks that were do prevalent in the election leading up to last November, so it feels pretty good to throw one back in their face for a change.

But it still must be remembered that the House provided the Senate Democrats with the chance to fund the NIH and they refused for purely political reasons because they want this shutdown to be as painful as possible on the American people.

Two can play this came Mr. Reid, how does it feel?

Unthinkable. And Obama shut down the ERIC online educational database that college students use. I just happened to need it. Of course the message was – shut down because of you know who. There is no reason to do it. It is simply a database already in place.

All part of the plan to make this more painful than it needs to be because the Democrats want to make political hay out of this. Disgusting!

Breitbart has a blow by blow of the media bias on the government shutdown.

The Dem have really jumped the shark on this one. The Rep need to go home to their districts and hold townhall meetings to talk to their constituents. Maybe they need to go the British newspapers to explain the shutdown.

Thanks for the link Chris. The Democrats are going overboard and are over-playing their hand, they look like fools.

That is a great point Jim. Reid’s arrogance is what led him to this slip up. He cannot believe anyone dared to question him. The funny part about this is that he is defending himself by attacking those who question him when he would be the first one to attack a Republican who said the same thing he did.

Jim, that sounds like something YOU would say as well, haha! Come to think of it, I would say it, too. I bet everyone on this blog would, as well. I SO dislike that scum of the earth. I watched a bit today on C-Span I and II, (I know, I should not do this, raises my bp) and the usual group of sorry ass Dems were trotting out to the mic. Murray, Schumer, Durbin and Reid for starters. They are just so soft spoken and just want those Republicans to pass it ALL as they have sent over, for the good of the American people. They even said they will sit down and talk after it is passed, sure, in a pigs eye they will. Are the Republicans going to fall for this again? One has to wonder about that! They lie, lie and lie…not so hard to figure out what the next words out of their mouths will be, is it? They WANT to get along, really they do and they want to have a CLEAN CR…what they hell is a CLEAN CR??? Oh, I forgot, a bill that is sent over and not changed, but left intact…so where is the negotiation in that? Clean, sounds, well, so CLEAN! Agree with us and pass it and don’t baulk and things will be alright? Guess they know what is best for our country. I look for the Republicans to cave on this….one thing I can say for the Dems, is they stick together!

I guess I will have to try and dig out the vid of Reid complaining how the visitors smelled. That was another reveal. Now and then they slip and say how they really feel.

I have to give you credit for watching this crap, I cannot bring myself to do it! Now Reid is saying that if the Republicans will find the government he will sit down and talk about tax reform. Are the Republicans really stupid enough to fall for this? If so they get what the deserve in 2014 and 2016.

It couldn’t have happened to a nicer fellow. I hope his foot is dry as a bone in his mouth.

Seriously, the Republicans need to bypass the media and go straight to the American people. They need to be upfront about what they are doing and explain it in on their own terms. Waiting to be defined by the Democrats and the media will get them nowhere.

Boehner spoke for about ten seconds and never made a case after their meeting with Obama. Reid and Pelosi had the floor forever right at prime time and went on and on. He has to go.

Boehner is a disaster and the Republicans should have removed him when they had the chance.

I agree Larry, take this to the American people. They can win this if they get their message out, I am just not sure they can.

Reid’s response will be shit canned never again to see the light of day. Maybe I missed it but I did not see it on FOX tonight. The republicans need to run this up the flagpole. The arrogance of the democrats must see the light of day even if the republicans circumvent the media in order to preach to the choir. Those joined at the hip to the democrats will never be swayed but there is always that chance that conservatives and republicans can be fooled and swayed to support the left; look at the faltering RINOS in the House and Senate.

The MSM is covering this up but the internet is running wild with it. More and more people are getting their news from the internet so hopefully the MSM’s attempt to cover this up will be unsuccessful.

Here is a comment (note they don’t use the word opinion) from a UK paper on the shutdown. This is a more intelligent analysis then we are seeing here.

Thanks for sharing that, it is sad that the UK papers are more honestly reporting what is happening than our own media is.

There are no real journalists in America any more, we have to go overseas to read what should be written here and that is sad.
