Was the NSA spying on Pope Francis?

October 30, 2013

When the world Bishops gathered in their secret conclave to elect a Pope to replace Pope Benedict XVI it appears as if the conclave was not as secret as they thought it was.

It is now being reported in this story that the NSA might actually have been monitoring Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio’s phone calls, as well as other Bishops, during the conclave. Archbishop Bergoglio is now Pope Francis.

The National Security Agency spied on the future Pope Francis before and during the Vatican conclave at which he was chosen to succeed Benedict XVI, it was claimed on Wednesday.

The American spy agency monitored telephone calls made to and from the residence in Rome where the then Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio stayed during the conclave, the secret election at which cardinals chose him as pontiff on March 13.

The claims were made by Panorama, an Italian weekly news magazine, which said that the NSA monitored the telephone calls of many bishops and cardinals at the Vatican in the lead-up to the conclave, which was held amid tight security in the Sistine Chapel.

If this report is true it appears as if this was something more than simple data-mining for the information was used to categorize the Church’s leaders:

The information gleaned was then reportedly divided into four categories — “leadership intentions”, “threats to financial system”, “foreign policy objectives” and “human rights”.

It is also being suggested that the NSA also spied on Pope Benedict while he was still Pope.

Still no word on whether or not the NSA was spying on Muslim leaders for human rights violations or foreign policy information. I guess we know whom the Obama regime feels is a bigger threat to his agenda.

I wonder if a couple of posts I did in the past might have anything to do with it. Don’t stray off the party line, even the pope.

The Vatican has for the first time appeared on the State Department’s list of money-laundering centers.

I now, no longer have any doubts in my mind, that if they could do it, the NSA would monitor god himself….

I’m surprised to hear of the Vatican’s Nuns left behind program. With the church’s newly emerging liberal stance on gay marriage, abortion, and after the proliferation of gay clergy I was under the impression that Allah Akbar was on its way to replacing Amen. Interesting…

Seems the only way left to communicate without being monitored would be by carrier pigeon. If the NSA will monitor Popes and Cardinals they will monitor anyone, anywhere.
