Sheila Jackson Lee claims we should change the term ‘welfare’ to ‘transitional living fund’
Texas Democratic Representative Sheila Jackson Lee took to the floor of the House to applaud welfare and she suggested that it was time to change the term ‘welfare’ into something else which would carry a lesser negative connotation.
In a brief speech on the House floor Wednesday, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) hailed the war on poverty, endorsed government welfare programs, and said the “safety net has to be something for all of us.”
“Maybe the word welfare should be changed to something of, ‘a transitional living fund.’ For that is what it is — for people to be able to live,” she said.
Let me state here that I have no problem with the government providing temporary relief to families in need while they are transitioning during a tough period in their lives. (Most likely brought on by government policies in the first place.) But that is what is should be–temporary–and that is where she is missing the point.
She claims that welfare is a ‘transitional living fund’ and while that may have been the original intent that is no longer what it is. Permanent welfare has become an acceptable way of life for too many people and that is why it needs to be reformed.

If people are going to be getting my tax dollars it should stay a negative connotation. Perhaps that might motivate one or two people to get a job and get off welfare. This is similar to when the change was made from food stamps to the EBT card. Mustn’t let people in the grocery store feel embarrassed! The vast majority of them SHOULD be embarrassed to still be living off the government tit when they’re perfectly capable of getting jobs and providing for themselves.

Exactly, all the shame has been taken away from collecting welfare and using food stamps. It is now seen as a way of life and the abuse is going to bankrupt us.

The welfare department in Massachusetts is officially called the Department of Transitional Assistance. Radio host Howie Carr is now calling it the Department of Terrorist Assistance because the marathon bombers were on welfare. The state won’t release the total but between housing, tuition, and welfare it is believed to be well over $100,000.

You’re right. She says nothing about the fact that the Gov. policies and agendas are the main problem promoting poverty – conditioning that ‘mindset’ to keep the likes of her in power. Their swindling idea of moving forward with the propaganda, includes distorting words and immorality making them something they aren’t. We know ‘transition’ doesn’t mean’ permanent’. How about calling it: UN-progressive slavery.

The government gives them just enough to live but not enough for them to make it on their own so that they will remain dependent on government assistance, yes it is a form of slavery..

Political Correctness, the #1 tool of the left. It’s the same reason retarded became special and then exceptional. 10 years from now what will they call them? Perfect? Sorry Sheilah, retarded is retarded and welfare is welfare. If someone is ashamed of the stigma, then get a freaking job.

The left loves to change the terms of different issues in order to suit there agenda, the greatest example of this is global warming changing to climate change.

I guess Ms. Jackson was asleep in 1996 when her first black president Bill Clinton along with the Republican-controlled Congress adopted the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act to replace the Social Security program Aid to Family with Dependent Children. AFDC’s successor is Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). Many Americans (idiots like Ms. Jackson) continue to refer to TANF as “welfare” or AFDC.
Why don’t they stop saying food stamps? The program is SNAP and it uses an EBT card.
This is a favorite theme of the left – change the name to provide cover for a failed program.

Sheila Jackson Lee wants to “change the term ‘welfare’ into something else” and I agree with her!! How about something like “lazy bastard stipend” or “sucking the government teat” or maybe “give-away program to ensure democrat votes forever”?? Or how about “scum-sucking low-life piece of shit drain on society”?
