New Hampshire’s duck killing State Representative pays fine and faces no drunk driving charges

January 17, 2014

duck-treadLast month New Hampshire Democratic State Representative David Campbell pulled into the parking lot of a hotel in Nashua and ran over several ducks without ever slowing down, astounding onlookers who just happened to be feeding the ducks at the time.

When confronted by one of the witnesses, who noticed the official state plates on the vehicle, David Campbell became belligerent and the police had to be called to the scene. Mister Campbell has since apologized and has paid a small fine but no drunk driving charges are forthcoming and that is where the story gets even more interesting because it seems as if alcohol might have been involved.

Here is part of what happened at the scene:

Murphy told police that after the driver hit the ducks, the driver — later identified as Campbell — exited the vehicle, appeared intoxicated and said, “The ducks should have moved out of the way,” according to the police report. Murphy told Campbell that he was going to call the police, and Campbell reportedly told him, “You’ll ruin my life,” said the report

But no sobriety check was ever done at the scene because the Nashua police commissioner appeared shortly thereafter. The police commissioner, Thomas Pappas, just happens to be both a lawyer and a close personal friend of David Campbell so he took him inside instead of performing a sobriety check after having been called by the beleaguered State Rep. After roughly two hours Pappas called the police station and asked if it was okay to bring in Campbell in the morning and the police naturally said this was okay.

The Nashua police are defending this, claiming it had no effect on the investigation:

“The Nashua Police Department looked into this incident at the Crowne Plaza thoroughly and charged Mr. Campbell with what we thought was the most appropriate charge,” Nashua Police Chief John Seusing told the New Hampshire Union Leader. “The fact that Mr. Campbell was a state representative, and that he reached out to an attorney/friend who happened to be a police commissioner, had no bearing or influence whatsoever into our responsibility to look into this matter.”

Of course it didn’t! Yeah, right…..

Apparently David Campbell went to the Ted Kennedy Drunk Driving Defense School where he acquired an education on how to avoid serious charges.

David Campbell has admitted to having a couple of drinks and now the police tapes have been released which show that the police were informed David Campbell appeared drunk, and yet he was allowed to sleep it off?

It is quickly becoming obvious that in New Hampshire it is all about your connections–take the recent case of Democratic State Senator Martha Fuller Clark. Recently she was involved in two separate car  accidents within a couple of months, in the second accident she actually plowed into a pedestrian who was wearing full reflective gear while walking ON THE SIDEWALK! No charges.

But of course Senator Clark has connections as well. She housed Joe Biden’s niece, and seven others, during the 2012 election cycle so they could work on Barack Obama’s campaign and vote in the state, even though they are not residents, before heading back to their home states.
