Is Mitt Romney going to run for president in 2016?

January 30, 2014

mittromney2-460x307As I wrote about in this post about the possibility of Darrell Issa potentially running for the presidency, this is the time in New Hampshire where people start to pay attention to what the national politicians are doing in our state looking for a sign as to their intentions for national office.

Speculation grows and swirls around every move made by national politicians as the voters try to decipher their intentions. Recently speculation grew about Darrell Issa and now–gulp–speculation is growing in this state about the possibility of yet another Mitt Romney run at the presidency.

While Mitt Romney has repeatedly denied he has any intention of running for president again the rumors are starting to swirl in New Hampshire after he reached out via a fundraising mailer for the New Hampshire GOP.

As speculation swirls that maybe — just maybe — Mitt Romney could be convinced to run for President for a third time, he’s reaching out to Granite Staters again.

We’ve learned a fund-raising letter from Romney on behalf of the state Republican Party arrived in mailboxes today.

Although Romney has repeatedly said he has no interest in running for President again, mostly positive responses to the new Netflix documentary about him and the recent issues facing establishment Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie have some strategists and columnist speculating about the possibility.

The Romney letter to first-in-the-nation primary Republicans will do nothing to quell that speculation.

And to top it off a new poll actually shows Mitt Romney as the front-runner for the GOP nomination in New Hampshire:

Mitt Romney leads the Republican field among New Hampshire primary voters for 2016. Yes, you read that right.

recent survey for Granite State voters, which shows Romney in the lead with 25 percent support. Libertarian firebrand Rand Paul (who has strong infrastructure in New Hampshire) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are behind with 18 percent and 17 percent support, respectively.

Somebody please tell me that the Republican nomination will not come down to Mitt Romney, Chris Christie, Sarah Palin, and Jeb Bush! Hell, we might as well throw John McCain into the mix while we are at it.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it and the Republican party seems poised to go the way of the Whigs. The way things are going right now in regard to the Republican leadership this cannot happen fast enough for me.

    RINOs will push for Romney.
Speaking for myself and some other Conservatives, I want to see a ticket of:
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER & ANDREW NAPOLITANO 2016.

I highly doubt Romney would attempt to run. Sometimes losing candidates will try their hand again in the future, but I have a feeling Mitt Romney is done with politics. The GOP & RNC would never run him. He was so effectively smeared in 2012 that he would never be successful as president. Despite what some polls may say in NH now, Rand Paul, Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, and scores of others would field better. Hell, even Ted Cruz has a stronger base at the moment and is making all thr right moves to increase his influence, even though he wouldn’t be the best president (imho). Interesting read though!

I hope that you are right and you probably are. Out of all those you mentioned I would take rand Paul and Ted Cruz, but I vastly prefer Paul.

I think Rand Paul would by far make the best POTUS. But then again, youve gotta run someone who can win the primaries (*sigh*) and then go on to win the big game. Dunno if Paul will appeal to enough of the female or Hispanic demographic, but I would love to see him in the Oval Office!

Rand Paul is my guy and I think it is possible that there are younger voters out there who will like what he has to say. Maybe I am just being too optimistic, but I think he is the best choice by far.

Good grief! I hope and pray this is nothing more than a really nasty rumor.

It probably is only a rumor. New Hampshire can get a little crazy when the primary seasons roll around and even though there are still almost three years left until the election the politicos in the state have their eyes open for any sign they can find.

Although there are Romney negatives I will go out on a limb here and say that he is a smart guy who knows he got snookered in a race that was his to win. I believe he now has some street smarts and has learned from past mistakes. If he runs and keeps the conversation focused on our failing economy and the disastrous employment and unemployment pictures the mo mo’s among us may actually do the right thing and vote republican. Jeb Bush is an opportunistic jerk who will be bought by the highest bidder, Christie is a not so in the closet liberal and Palin is a cartoon character. McCain is a piece of shit onto himself with no place in this conversation who will stay where he has always been, in Soros’ hip pocket. All things being equal I believe Romney just might be our guy. Let Bush III keep his latino vote we don’t need it…or him.

What you say may be true but at this point I have to believe Romney is damaged goods. The one thing I will say about him is that I believe he is a much better person than Obama with real values.

Talk about not being able to think out of the box. The tea party needs to find a candidate who can be a true leader. Someone with government management experience that can rein in the ever expanding imperial preidency.

Rep love beating their heads against the wall and expecting a different result. Dole, McCain and now Romney how pathetic and egotistical.

Sad isn’t it, if this is the best they have to offer. And they wonder why they keep losing.

Sadly you are right and if that is the case I will not vote for either because there isn’t enough of a difference to persuade me to vote for the “lesser of two evils” again.

I think you might be right on this one, Bunker! I am sure it has been in the making for awhile now. This is decided before hand and we are just allowed to THINK that we have a bit of input on the candidate. We all know that this last election had massive voter fraud, did not like the idea of Romney, but surely he would have been a bit better than what we have now. We have some good candidates in the Tea Party, but the old guard will see that they are ruined by whatever means they have. The Republican party is split into 2 factions, one that loves America and wants to see us survive and, well, the other doesn’t. Then we have the Democratic party that will do whatever it takes to keep hold of what they have now. Something for us all to look forward to, isn’t it?

You nailed it Lou! We only have the illusion of choosing out candidates while the establishment really chooses our candidate for us. It is sickening and disheartening, but until we finally have had enough and take our votes to a third party nothing will change for they will see no need to change anything.

Yep, you are right about that and the Republicans have a way of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory so I would not be surprised if they did try to convince Romney to run again.
