Feds admit the NSA “probably” spies on the Congress

February 4, 2014

During a House Judiciary Committee hearing Deputy Attorney General James Cole begrudgingly admitted what we all thought was true–the NSA is “probably” collecting the phone records of members of the Congress.

Mr. Cole, do you collect 202, 225, and four digits afterwards?” Issa asked, referring to the prefixes used to call congressional offices.

“We probably do, Mr. Congressman,” Cole responded

He then went on to say that while they “probably” are collecting these records members of the Congress have nothing to worry about:

“But we’re not allowed to look at any of those, however, unless we have reasonable, articulable suspicion that those numbers are related to a known terrorist threat.”

And of course we know, as in the case of the IRS targeting scandal where there was not even a smidgen of corruption, that the Federal government would never abuse this power. We can trust them do always do what is right I suppose. Right?

Why don’t his assurances make me feel any better? We have seen the Obama regime abuse the power of these agencies by going after political opponents before with the IRS and we are supposed to believe they would not do so again?

Sheesh! Cops aren’t even allowed to go after our congresscritters when they’re on their way to Congress because it is thought to be interfering with the business of the United States of America. Something as simple as delaying their arrival to congress is viewed as potentially having undo influence over their votes.

As much as that has been abused at least it was written into the Constitution, where this is a violation of the Constitution!

LOLOL – I would certainly HOPE so! I mean, if I was a spy, folks in Congress would be high-value targets! They are making back room deals about laws and such. If the NSA was dumb enough to collect my phone calls, all they would get are reminders from my wife to pick up groceries, and calls from the clinic to come in and do exams. ZZZZZZzzzzz….

LOL, you make a good point but it should be up to the people to watch what their Congressmen are up to and not a government agency which can use this information for purely political reasons.

If you just let your imagination run wild, how easy would it be for some rogue nation to hack into those records and start manipulating congresscritters? Certainly the potential abuse of power within our own government is scary, but you know if our own government has it, others are right behind them, probably using the same six lane anti-privacy freeway we paved.

Maybe even the President is being spyed on. J. Edger Hoover on steroids comes to mind.
