Six unions push back against Barack Obama and the EPA’s new coal regulations

February 6, 2014

It is now being reported that six unions have sent the Senate a letter asked the body to hold hearings on the EPA’s new coal regulations.

President Barack Obama’s crackdown on coal-fired power plants is getting major pushback from a traditional Democratic ally: Unions.

Six unions are petitioning the Senate to hold hearings on Environmental Protection Agency coal plant rules.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and five other unions sent a letter to top senators on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee to hold hearings on the economic impacts of the EPA’s Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) rule.

“During the rulemaking process our unions stated for the record that MATS and its short compliance timeline would result in the closing of 56 Gigawatts of coal-fired generation and the loss of approximately 250,000 jobs. Despite assurances by EPA to the contrary, our prediction is now coming to pass,” reads the letter signed by major unions, including the United Mine Workers, Boilermakers and Utility Workers.

Union-Coal-Miners-For-Obama-870AMDuring Barack Obama’s first term the Congress failed to pass his radical cap and trade agenda, when he spoke out about this Barack Obama famously quipped that “there is more than one way to skin a cat.”

The president was obviously talking about using the EPA to implement cap and trade through new regulations. What in hell did these unions think Barack Obama meant when he made that statement?

And there is more for who could forget that while he was running for president the first time he promised to shut down the coal industry? Did they think he was joking?

Knowing all of this, for we have to believe the union leaders knew where Barack Obama stood on coal, they still endorsed him for president in both elections.

I am sorry, but it is hard to feel bad for these people for they are getting what they voted for when they made their ill-advised decision to support a man who did not support them. It is just too bad the rest of us are going to be hurt by the rising price of energy for the unions are taking us down with them.

Maybe next time you will stop listening to your union leaders and start listening to what the president actually says before they make their decision.

Too bad this didn’t happen to these knuckleheads five years ago when there were still hamburger flipping jobs available. Sorry but they are getting just desserts. Wanna’ bet the coal miners daughters fathers vote as a block for a fat ass in a pant suit in 2016?

You would think that they would learn their lesson from this but somehow I don’t think they will. At least the union leadership, I wonder if this will start to turn more union workers away from the Democrats and the suggestion of their union bosses.

Unions have been a semi backbone of the Dems for decades. This little stunt–to put an entire industry out of business and thousands of unionmen out of work may be the straw that broke the lying emperor’s back. Every current and former miner should march on washington and storm the Capitol. What an arrogant embicile.

A stunt is exactly what this is, when push comes to shove the unions will vote for Democrats in 2014 and 2016.

They complain, and rightly so, but the Campaigner-in-Chief was pretty clear about what he was going to do to the coal industry: destroy it. On this he was honest. But the Sheeple heard what they wanted to hear, and figured their connected bosses would strike a deal.

Exactly, this is the one time Obama was honest. You are probably right, the union members thought a deal would be struck to save them, much like with healthcare when they were told they would be exempted. Maybe they are slowly learning what we already knew; Obama cannot be trusted.

This is so the Chinese can buy -(steal) our coal fields at rock bottom prices and export the coal. 250,000 workers ain’t worth squat to the Dem party. They won’t be missed. Maybe if KY, WV were right to work states their might have been other jobs. Go to the back of the line and quit you bitching.

I have a brother in law that is hard core union as a welder. He and his wife will not talk to one of my other brother in laws now because he made a comment about the union and how they voted. I guess all I can say is “you’ll have that” when it comes to some people. They listen to their shop steward and the union heads. He is struggling to hold a job and is having to go out of state now for long lengths of time. So much for that great job he thought he had. Now it is a daily struggle as to IF he will get work. I sure as hell hope some of these people wake up. We did, but guess we were not letting someone else tell us how things were. We had the smarts to question what was going on, some don’t do that.

Somehow they don’t seem to make the connection between the way they vote and how it hurts them in the long run.

Sadly, those with that type of union mentality will gladly jump on the “redistribution of wealth”, “big government” and “social justice” bandwagon long before they realize there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Yep, that is how it goes. It is sad, but the bigger problem is that it comes down on all of us in the end. I don’t like that scenario, do you?

I am going to post this again, it didn’t post, or is delayed like happened a couple days ago. If it does it again, sorry Steve.

I know I should wait to post this tomorrow on the open thread, but hopefully Steve will understand. This is Alorton, Illinois, yes, I said ILLINOIS. I thought you might like to read about the corruption that comes out of Illinois, the home state of President Obama, or so they say and Governor Patrick Quinn. This is how it goes here in our state. I grew up down in the area, in East St. Louis. This makes me sick. I played in the parks in that area and the town has come to this…what a shame. Democratic controlled? Anything to do with it? Hmm?

Lou, I commented on this on the other post you left this on. I will leave them both up because maybe more people will see it that way. I have my spam filter set to moderate all comments with two or more links, that is why you were moderated. Most comments with two links are spam so this does help to cut down quite a bit on the spam that gets through. Sorry about that.
