Open thread for Sunday, February 9th: Prayers for Rain

February 9, 2014

Here is the open thread for Sunday, February 9th; please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

As usual you can follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is going on in the world. You can also subscribe to receive email updates and if you do you will never miss a post again.

In case you have not noticed I have replaced the old Twitter widget with a new, fully interactive Twitter widget. This widget updates my tweets in near real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. Is also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!?

Please check out what the New Federalist Party has been up to by clicking on the link to the right. On the NFP Facebook page you will find a link to the party platform. Check it out and if you like what you see we are currently looking for donations and delegates to the states for the convention.

Well, the state of California is in the midst of a serious drought so for the musical selection this week I have chosen ‘Prayers for Rain’ performed live by The Cure and I dedicate it to all those in California who may be affected.

While we are at it why don’t we take a moment to look at the lyrics:

you shatter me your grip on me a hold on me
so dull it kills you stifle me infectious sense of
hopelessness and prayers for rain i suffocate i
breathe in dirt and nowhere shines but desolate
and drab the hours all spent on killing time
again all waiting for the rain

you fracture me your hands on me a touch so
plain so stale it kills you strangle me entangle
me in hopelessness and prayers for rain i
deteriorate i live in dirt and nowhere glows but
drearily and tired the hours all spent on killing
time again all waiting for the rain

Could this not be said about our feelings toward the Federal government at this point?

We need all the “prayers for rain we can get”. After all, the poor delta smelt and the fairy shrimp need all the help they can get. As a life long Californian, I knew LAST YEAR things weren’t right, but did we act? NO! They kept draining the dams to save who-knows-what animal. And just like Rhom Emanuel says, our leftists aren’t going to let this go to waste. Now we need to tear out our yards, our toilets, our faucets, for “efficient” ones, AND pay a ton more money. And you can bet rates will stay high no matter what happens with the rain.
The idiots of California voted for a garbage “high speed” rail system in the central valley that will go from nowhere to nowhere. Hundreds of millions wasted for something nobody is going to use.
But do we build 1 new damn? 1 new water recycling program? 1 new desalinization plant? HELL NO.

You know, this story has been bothering me since we learned about the drought. I could not figure out why one whole state would be affected by a drought when there are no reports of droughts anywhere else. Usually droughts are in a region, either within one state or over more than one state, so this always seemed odd to me–droughts do not adhere to state borders.I did not realize what California has been up to, thanks for enlightening me about this.

Don’t get me wrong, we really are in trouble, and there is a drought. California is rates as an ARID region. We don’t get much rain, and we use a lot of water. Our average rain fall is only about 22″ for the whole year, and it is very rare to get any rain between May and October. What we depend on is the snow in the mountains to stay up there until we need it and slowly melt. Then we save it with dams. This year we have a big high pressure system steering the rain to the north. The problem is those on the left rather give the water to the fairy shrimp rather than the farmer.

Speaking of music relevant to our times, PLEASE YouTube the Temptations Ball of Confusion. Besides being a great song, I take some comfort in knowing our problems aren’t new, but am very discouraged that nothing has changed, except for the worse.

Coming to your state soon! This is what happens when you have a Democratically controlled state:
