John McCain wants to send weapons to Ukraine

March 15, 2014

There is an old saying that goes like this; it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks. And John McCain is an old dog, has there ever been a conflict anywhere in the world in which John McCain does not think the United States should be involved?

Apparently John McCain has not learned his lesson from Syria, where US involvement might have been the true reason behind the attack in Benghazi, for now he is advocating for America to send weapons to Ukraine.

“To make it happen, all the president has to do is order it tomorrow,” McCain said. “He can have it done tomorrow.”

“Obviously the situation is very tense,” McCain said, speaking to journalists in Kyiv late on March 13. “It is unclear what (Russian President) Vladimir Putin will do now, whether he decides to move in eastern Ukraine or not, although he has certainly taken all the steps to facilitate such a step–the movement of troops and their concentration in western Russia, the largest airborne operation that the Russians have carried out since World War II.”

First of all, they need small arms but they need other military equipment as well. There needs to be a training regimen also. A lot of their military is not well trained, nor ready to fight. That shouldn’t prevent us from getting arms to them, not just to defend themeless [sic] but as a signal that we are supporting them. I think it’s vital to give them arms and I think it’s also vital to send a message that we’re willing to give them arms with which to defend themselves from an imminent invasion of another party of their country.

For some reason he feels as if what happens between Ukraine and Russia is America’s business but I fail to see what our interests could possibly be. All that we would accomplish by sending weapons to Ukraine, in my opinion, would be to provoke Russia and bring us closer to WWIII. Is that what John McCain wants?

Am I being naive here? If so I welcome people to explain to me why we should be involved in this conflict for I can see no reason and I can see no good coming from our involvement in a regional conflict.

I’ll be honest about this. I am at a loss to know what the United States should be doing about Ukraine. I don’t want Vladamir Putin to be too emboldened, but I also think we shouldn’t be involved, at least militarily, in what is going on. For certain, John McCain is off his rocker if he thinks we should be sending weapons to Ukraine. That is a surefire way to get Putin’s dander up and I don’t think he bluffs easily.

It is a tough situation over there and I don’t have the answer either, but if McCain thinks that sending weapons over there is going to make Putin back down than he is going senile.

I fear the US was behind the overthrow of the Ukraine government. The EU wants control of those pipelines and the US wants N ATO forces on Russia’s border. So, as far as I’m concerned Putin has “right” on his side. Obama tumbled the governments of Egypt and Libya. He want to tumble the Syrian government. That didn’t work and now he has managed to tumble the Ukraine government. Putin is going to hand him his lunch. Let’s hope they don’t take down the world’s financial system while they are playing their geo-political chess.

That is interesting and with Obama’s history of toppling governments I don’t think it is out of the question.

The United States and some of her allies entered into a written agreement to ensure and guarantee the sovereignty of the Ukraine, in exchange for the abandonment of Nuclear Weapons by the emergent Ukrainian Government. By not supporting the Ukraine at this time the US and the Western Allies will lose its credibility and its reputation, and provoke future nuclear weapons proliferation. Unless this confrontation with Russia is addressed effectively either by economic, diplomatic, political or as a very last resort through military support, the penalties will be serious. Russia will escalate its actions in future confrontations at a later date, and the future of these more serious confrontations may well lead to the sort of military conflict that most of us would prefer not to imagine. The adage; If you desire peace, then prepare for war, is much more appropriate in this instance than any in the recent or even older past.

You’re referring to the Budapest memorandum? The US and Russia have both violated it repeatedly for the last 15 years by throwing their weight into Ukranian politics, and other Syrian tactics … that credibility is long gone.

Thanks for sharing that information, I was not aware of it. However I would say we have already lost our credibility and reputation across the globe and as we can see in Iran we are already allowing nuclear proliferation. This is a tough situation, there is no doubt about it, but I don’t know what the answer is.

I think the US should stay out. If there is a majority if Russians in Crimea, let them join whichever side they want. Why force them into the rest of the Ukraine, who doesn’t want them anyway, just their real estate…

Yes, this seems to be an issue between Crimea, Russia, and Ukraine and I think nothing good can come from sending them weapons.

Good point. We saw this with Syria, those who were supporting the rebels were receiving I think it was twice as much money from defense contractors than those who did not. And John McCain received more than anybody. I remember writing a post about it.

Did you see the other day that Ukraine signed a deal w/ Chevron for 10 Bill?
J.S. Kim has a perspective of what’s going on here and using the military for the bankers – again. p.s. McCain is not a full deck guy … he and lurch Kerry have other agendas. Follow the money trail.

    Hello,
    John McCain is nuts.
The Eu have all sort of interest to « get » Ukraine Resources.. But the population will find themselves like under Stalin.
All this bring Putin as good alternative, a REAL lesser bad.

What it show is that the E.U. got friend in the U.S. and to see who influence who..

Anyway once again it is the resources that is the Central matter…the people? who cares…

Before all this going astray Putin did make his move and I hope he is able to stop that Ukrainian-Spring before it become a Real humanitarian mess !

I want to smack him. Just walk up to him and bitch slap him until he starts crying. Then tell him he is DONE! Tell him to go home and live out the rest of his life NOT poking his nose in everyone else’s business.

    Wait….did I say that out loud?? 😉

Ya, you kind of DID, Laura! However it is not what most of us here would be offended in hearing! These RINO’s need to be taken out of office. They have served their purpose long ago and now they feel they are entitled to be there. They do us no good and in fact HURT us. Makes you wonder what side they are on! Downsize our military, cut their pay and then they want to send troops there. Not to mention our “kinder, gentler” way of deportation we have going on here. We, as a nation have become wooses in they eyes of other nations. We have a weakling at the helm and he is steering us in a direction I do not want to go. What do we do?

Yeah, you said that out loud but I don’t think you are alone. 😉 It reminds me of that scene in the movie ‘Airplane’ where everyone lines up to slap the woman who is panicing.

Somehow I think there is a line forming to slap McCain as well.
