Rand Paul hits back at Harry Reid for calling Cliven Bundy supporters ‘domestic terrorists’

April 20, 2014

When I first heard the report that Harry Reid called the people who showed up to support Cliven Bundy ‘domestic terrorists’ I was skeptical because it was based solely on a tweet by a reporter who claimed Harry Reid made the statement. However, Harry Reid quickly confirmed this report when he said the following:

600 people came in, armed. They had practiced, they had maneuvered, they knew what they were doing. They set up snipers in strategic locations with sniper rifles. They had assault weapons. They had automatic weapons. And they boasted about the fact that they put women in children — in fact one retired sheriff from Arizona boasted that he put women and children so that they would get hit first.

So, 600 people. If there were ever an example of people who were domestic, violent terrorist wannabes, these are the guys. And I think that we should call it that way.

Before I get to the subject of this post let us examine three lies Harry Reid I believe he made in that quote above. First; the Bundy supporters did not put women and children on the front line. This was a foolish and moronic statement made by Sheriff Richard Mack but thankfully his advice was not followed. Second; all reports claim there were a few dozen people there and not the 600 Harry Reid claimed. In fact, these people are proud of the fact that they were vastly outnumbered by 200 Feds and managed to push them back. And third; there have been no reports that any of the supporters were carrying illegal automatic weapons. Harry Reid just made that up on the spot.

Now on to the point of this post. Earlier today Rand Paul hit back at Harry Reid for calling the Bundy supporters ‘domestic terrorists.’ Here is part of what he had to say:

“I don’t think calling people names is going to calm this down; I think its liable to stir it up, so I think all parties including Sen. Reid should calm the rhetoric a little bit. Let’s try to have a peaceful resolution to this,” Paul said during an interview on Fox News Thursday night.

He is right; Harry Reid’s statements are not helping to calm the situation and in fact could actually end up escalating the situation. But Rand Paul might be missing the point about why Harry Reid made this statement in the first place. He is assuming that Harry Reid is not intentionally trying to escalate the situation and I am not convinced that is the case.

Harry Reid only became vocal once his son’s possible ties to the standoff became known. He seems to have a vested interest making sure the last cattle rancher in the area where Rory hopes to build a solar farm is out of the way. Cliven Bundy has not paid his land fees in twenty years (and I am not and have not defended this) and yet the Feds have done nothing until now? Why now? And why with such force? Is it just a coincidence that they moved in now or was Rory Reid behind this to some extent? The Feds response to this situation was clearly excessive and there has to be a reason for it.

I hope I am wrong, and I am not stating this as fact, but it almost seems as if Harry Reid is trying to goad these people into doing something foolish and if this is the case I hope they are smart enough not to take the bait.

I wouldn’t been surprised if one of the Dem’s plants fired off the first shot from the crowd, making it look like they did it – to force the issue or legitimize their ‘cleaning up.’ You know how the enemy likes to use a patsy or hire demonstrators etc. In this case they just put jeans and a cowboy/cowgirl hat on one of the Fed shooters and have them start the show.
I’m glad some of the Senators and Reps are coming along side. This is an opportunity for them to join in and air out their conscience – doing what’s right to do. Where’s Palin?
I checked PETA’s site and all they stated is that cattle shouldn’t be shot or eaten. They dove out from this.
And, the ‘grazing fees’ too are a front: The pot is starting to steam.

Interesting link, thanks for sharing it. I wouldn’t be shocked if a shot was fired from the BLM and blamed on Bundy supporters as justification to begin a firefight.

The second revolution has begun. An American “spring” is here. There was always a bigger issue than grazing fees. Hats off to the bloggers and fox. We need to be smart about this, and not allow ourselves to get setup.

I hope it doesn’t come to that but you are right. These people need to be very careful because they are going to be goaded into doing something and I think that is what Reid is most likely trying to do.

It sounds like what Harry Reid was describing was the BLM, not the supporters. This has not been the first time Reid lied! The mercenaries that were put out front on the BLM side, I think, figured out they were going to take the first hit and be sacrificed, they left a lot of equipment there and left quickly. I do not know how many people were there, but Reid also stretches the truth along with being a liar. However, there are those that will listen to him and not to anyone else. We know this is not over. I have been still trying to find out about the unmarked SUV’s (black and white) that are converging on Las Vegas, along with those flying in, we know it is not over, it has just begun. The Feds are not going to walk away from this, as people were assuming they had done. They cannot let the people see that it is possible to fight back and win. They want all of us to be beaten down and compliant. What a world we live in and it has gotten worse since this president has been in office. I cannot think of anyone that would or could disagree with that, but imagine hey are out there.

No this is not over, in fact it is just beginning and I hope these people do not fall for what is sure to be an attempt at goading them into irrational action. I agree, I would say the BLM was acting as terrorists do here.

The Feds are much more than capable of planting someone to ‘fire the first shot’. All we have to do is look back to the 60’s and the plants in the Black Panthers and other ‘Hippy’ groups who gathered intel and instigated and finally acted to start mob violence.

And as far as calling peaceful, armed, supporters/protesters terrorists, when Ried and all the other behind licking leftists in DC shrink from calling Hassan, who murdered in the name of Allah and jihad, a domestic terrorist is more than despicable. Harry Ried is less than a man, he is vile and corrupt to the core. He knows nothing of real manhood, personal integrity, honor, and has love for neither the truth or the Constitution which he took an oath to uphold and defend. Reid is an OATHBREAKER and a traitor to the Constitution.

All of us who seek wisdom and common sense in life should work very hard to keep this from becoming an armed insurrection. No matter how justified, that course will end badly for most and will be the end of a free America. It must be the last of the last of the last in a long line of choices and can only be the least of a forced set of bad choices. The enemies of freedom want nothing more than for our side to commit a blatantly public violent act.

Those of us who believe in God should be praying and interceding for our nation and her people. Live free and live strong, but live smart. Let’s keep the fight of ideas and hearts and minds going and ramp it up. I still believe it is not too late to win with words and peaceful protest.

Well said! When you remember that this regime has refused to call Hassan a terrorist and then you look at how freely Reid is throwing it around in this case it makes you realize something is very wrong in this country.
