John Podesta says there is nothing the Congress can do to stop Barack Obama from acting on global warming

May 5, 2014

When cap and trade legislation was defeated in the Congress a few years ago Barack Obama proclaimed “there is more than one way to skin a cat.” We all knew back then what he meant by this; he was going to use the EPA and Executive Orders to unilaterally pass the legislation, thereby bypassing the Congress to implement his radical agenda.

White House adviser John Podesta today stated that Barack Obama was prepared to use Executive Orders to pass what basically amounts to cap and trade legislation and he said there was nothing the Congress could do to stop him.

White House adviser John Podesta told reporters Monday afternoon that Congress could not derail the Obama administration’s efforts to unilaterally enact policies to fight global warming.

Podesta said that the president was committed to using executive orders to pass regulations under the Clean Air Act to limit carbon dioxide emissions that they say cause global warming.

“They may try, but there are no takers at this end of Pennsylvania Avenue,” Podesta told reporters at a Monday press conference at the White House.

Sadly he is right, they may bitch and moan about this but what are they actually going to do about it? Nothing, and I do not think they want to. See, I believe they would rather let this happen so that they can use it as a campaign issue rather than risk opposing the president for fear of being portrayed as partisans.

And Barack Obama is going to move forward on this despite the revelation that the talking points in the United Nations report on climate change were altered by politicians for political reasons.

But of course global warming has nothing to do with saving the planet. Barack Obama is a redistributionist and a globalist and the global warming agenda is about nothing but the global distribution of wealth from wealthier countries to poorer countries. This is why the United Nations talking points were changed and this is why Barack Obama does not care if the report was less than honest. The end justifies the means…..

Some Democrats are urging Barack Obama to slow down on this issue. Here is what Joe Manchin had to say:

“We’re getting the living crap beaten out of us,” West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin told President Obama’s nominee to be the country’s top energy regulator last year. “There has been nothing more beat up than coal.”

“They just beat the living daylights out of little West Virginia, but they sure like what we produce,” Manchin told former nominee Ron Binz. “We could do it a lot better if we had a government working with us as a partner.”

It is hard to feel sorry for Joe Manchin because Barack Obama made his intentions well known when he promised to put the coal industry out of business, yet he still supported the president and his reelection. You reap what you sow senator and now your chickens are coming home to roost. Congratulations on your short-sightedness and your lack of vision. Now your state is going to suffer for your sins. I hope you are proud of the role you played in foisting this on the people of your state.

I am not surprised that there is nothing congress can do to stop Obama from using “his pen and his phone”. I am not surprised that Obama is happy to use his pen and phone. As you say, his goal has always been the redistribution of wealth. He has always wanted to legislate, rather than lead.
What I want to know is whether Congress can do anything to undo his actions, if they get the majority?

They can do something about it, I just do not think they want to because they want to run against this rather than stopping him.

This is where we will learn, if the next administration is controlled by replublicans/tea party members, just how much they are truly for the people or not. If the democrats lose the senate, and republicans keep the house, and and the president is republican, they could, through congressional vote and president approval, undo as many of the executive orders that obama placed into law as they *want* to. The question is, will they?

Yeah, do they want to? I don’t know, it seems to me that both sides are only against an abuse of power when they are not the ones in charge. Once they have control they don’t seem to have any problem ding what they accuse the other side of.

Just one point right now. Yes, they can stop him and other illegal actions of the president and the executive branch. Defund the unconstitutional executive branch agencies. They can’t do anything without money to operate.

You are right Laura, I was hasty in saying they cannot stop them. They have the means to stop him if they want to, I just don’t think they want to. I think they would rather see harm come to this country so they can blame Obama and run on it in November rather than stopping him. And that is sad to say the least…..

Yeah, but I did say he was right because I was not thinking of the defunding angle. It is sad that we think this way about the Republicans, isn’t it?

It’s sad, but it is also MORE evidence that we were right in creating the New Federalist Party. Our Country is not going to be restored through the actions of reps or dems, it will be through the NFP that it happens.

Amen to that! I just wish more people were reading our platform, there are things there that could bring both sides in agreement if only people would give us the chance.

Russia and China are laughing their asses off while watching the US and the EU economies self destruct. Of course there will be some crony corporatists making tons of money for a while until the golden goose dies.

Well, you and I are on the same page today.”EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy will go after a “small but vocal group of critics” This should chill the very marrow of one’s bones as I commented on my post. To think that someone can say what they say and there is no outrage makes me outraged.

Since Congress is so lame this might be a motivational force to help jump-kick ‘something’ into gear! Maybe this arm of the Judicial is broken totally yet:
‘Judge Napolitano To Megyn Kelly: House Special Committee On Benghazi Can Subpoena Obama’ http://beforeitsnews.com/opinion-conservative/2014/05/judge-napolitano-to-megyn-kelly-house-special-committee-on-benghazi-can-subpoena-obama-2846892.html
Push it all the way down the impeachment line.

I have to agree with Laura. Congress does have the means to stop Obama’s agenda. By exercising their constitutional authority over expenditures, they can stop what he trying to do. At least, that’s how it is supposed to work. Checks and balances and all that.

The trouble with that is simple. Barack Obama has made a practice out of ignoring those checks and balances. He simply moves funds around at his whim, making them accessible to his agenda. Checks and balances only work if all three branches of our government recognize them and follow the Constitution. This version of the Executive Branch does no such thing.

That is a good point Larry. Even if the Congress did cut off the funds it does not mean Obama will not ignore them by taking funds from somewhere else. I will go one step further; if Obama did this he would take the money from where it will be the most painful for the American people so that he can turn around and blame the Republicans.

Excellent point, LD. Steve, exactly right, he would make it as PAINFUL as possible all while blaming the republicans.
