Has Edward Snowden been spying for Russia since 2007?

Has Edward Snowden been spying for Russia since 2007? That is what Robert Baer is claiming, although he admits he has no proof:

Distinguished former CIA officer and author Robert Baer said on the BBC’s “Today” radio program Thursday morning that ex-NSA contractor Edward Snowden has been in contact with the Russian government for the last seven years.

“My suspicion is that the Russians were probably in touch with him in Geneva,” Baer said, speculating they first made contact in 2007 while Snowden was stationed in Switzerland with CIA. “I can’t prove it. But this was such a brilliant operation. And his landing in Moscow just makes old Cold War warriors like me very suspicious.”

I have to admit that in the debate over whether Edward Snowden is a hero or a traitor I have been undecided. Many in the Federal government, on both sides of the aisle, have branded him a traitor for hurting national security while his supporters hail him as a hero for exposing what the government has been up to behind our backs.

Part of me wonders whether the politicians have branded Snowden a traitor in an effort to protect themselves because of the revelations about what they have been doing to us and not because they really believe what he did was a threat to national security.

However, if it turns out to be true and Edward Snowden was spying for Russia than there can be no doubt that he is a traitor who most likely went public with these revelations in order to protect his own ass when the heat started to be applied.

But then on the other hand this could be another attempt by the Federal government to discredit Snowden–I really do not know what to think!

It’s a ‘tough call’ this one. We’ve been given so little real info – mainly the NSA spying (but that’s been known by some for years). Considering those in the White House – why would Russia even need a spy? The BIG Spies calling out the small fry?
