Scott Brown refuses to debate his primary opponents

June 17, 2014

Back in April the Republicans vying to win the nomination to take on Jeanne Shaheen in the November election held their first debate. Well, not all of them…..Scott Brown apparently had better things to do so he was not there.

Tomorrow night there will be another debate and Scott Brown will not be attending that one either, and he has yet to confirm he will be at the July and August debates. In fact, he is the only Republican who hasn’t confirmed these dates–all Republicans running for the Senate, House, and for the Governor’s seat will be debating at various times.

The reason to me is obvious: Scott Brown is the front-runner and as such he knows there will be a target on his back, he will be ganged up on, and he is unwilling to take the heat. He is afraid that he sill suffer damage and he is unwilling to take that chance.

This doesn’t sound like a supremely confident move to me, it would seem as though Scott Brown should revel in the debates and the notion that he could win over those who are still skeptical of him. Scott Brown is campaigning as if he has already won the primary, and most likely he will, but you have to wonder if his decision to ignore a chance at letting skeptical voters get a good look at him will come back to haunt him.

He should have learned a lesson from Cantor. The arrogance of power, or so perceived from an inflated ego.

Yep, but it seems like he is taking the voters for granted. he deserves to lose but I think he will still win the primary.

He’s saving his A material for the Shaheen debates.

Problem is, if he doesn’t take what he thinks is his A material and try it out in public, he won’t know how good it really is. Or isn’t.

Good point TGY, this would give him the chance to see what works in this state and what doesn’t.

I’m with you, Steve, candidates who decline to debate their opponents for public office are demonstrating their own unworthiness for high office.

I’ll agree that you sometimes have to weed out the crazies from the pack, especially in later debates, but I think it’s highly instructive in the early going to get all candidates on the same stage and give them a chance to blow their own horns and interact a bit.

And even though Senator isn’t necessarily a leadership position like Governor or President, it’s still useful to know how a Senator will do in DC when people gang up on him for representing our interests.

And besides, free air time is free air time – why would you want this fellow representing you in DC, helping to shape the national budget, when he passes up on free air time, a commodity of extremely high value?!

Take good care and may God bless us all!

I think that Brown believes because he was already in the Senate people already know what he is about and so he doesn’t have to risk hurting himself. It is the coward’s way out in my opinion.
The independents are the largest voting group in New Hampshire and they already do not like him for carpetbagging, he is doing himself no favors with them when it comes to the general election.
Unless Obamacare is a major issue in the election I believe the independents will most likely say to themselves Jeanne Shaheen wasn’t a bad enough Senator for them to cast their vote for a person they do not trust. This is a major miscalculation by Brown in my opinion.

I should have wrote “this two faced jerk is saving his A material…”
