Impeachment is not going to happen so just get over it and focus on the issues!

July 10, 2014

Sorry for the harsh-sounding nature of the title but impeachment is a losing issue, if it is an issue at all, and here is why:

The calls for the impeachment of Barack Obama have grown in the wake of the manufactured border crisis, and recently it was amplified when Sarah Palin wrote an opinion piece for Breitbart saying it is time for impeachment.

While there is nobody who opposes the president more than I do the calls for impeachment are misguided. I have news for you; impeachment is not going to happen so get over it and focus on the issues ahead of the election.

Even if the House did vote to impeach Barack Obama it is the duty of the Senate, as laid out in the Constitution, to convict him and with the Democrats in control of the Senate that is not going to happen so this is an exercise in futility. If the House did indeed vote to impeach the president what would it actually accomplish? Nothing!

While it would make those who have been clamoring for impeachment feel good all it would do, in my opinion, would be to fire up Democratic voters who are feeling lethargic and unenthusiastic about voting in 2014 and draw them to the polls on an issue which is unrelated to the problems America faces when many of them might be considering sitting out the election as did the conservatives in 2012 rather than voting for Mitt Romney. In other words; it would have the opposite effect of what is intended.

This type of rhetoric, in my opinion, is designed to fire up the Republican base but if the base is not already fired up it will never be, while this will serve to fire up the Democratic base which seems to be growing more discontented by the day. The Republicans would be better off sticking to, and debating, the issues–Obamacare, illegal immigration, the IRS, cap and trade, NSA spying, and gun control to name a few–rather than falling for a diversion which is doomed to failure.

If we cannot win on the issues than we do not deserve to win in November. Plain and simple…

PLEAS PLEASE KEEP REMINDING PEOPLE OF THIS FACT! I was pissed when I saw Palin calling for impeachment. It simply is IMPOSSIBLE! And there are about 150 million reasons (voters) why this will never happen. NOBODY wants him gone more than me, but one reason we haven’t been doing well is because we are looking FOR a Unicorn, when we should be looking AT the Shark in front of us.

Would it not be prudent though, to go ahead with proceedings to impeach in the house now, with timing to end the houses process shortly after the November elections? If the elections go as I’m suspecting, that leaves the senate controlled by rebublicans as well. If not, c’est la vie, but if it does? I’m not familiar with the rules and regs of government impeachment (need a super majority vote in both?) I wouldn’t be worried about a failed attempt should the senate retain control after the elections.. but why wait?

The Constitution calls for conviction by 2/3 of Senators present at an impeachment trial. As Steve says, that’s not going to happen – even if the Dems fall into the minority.

And the GOP would get a terrible reputation for impeaching Democratic presidents. It’s a strategy that could backfire – people – even Republicans – might grow tired of what seems like such a temper tantrum approach to government.

Yeah, TGY is right; you need a 2/3 majority to convict in the Senate and even in their wildest dreams the Republicans are not going to win a super majority. The Republican party has problems of its own, they are splitting apart, and this would energize the Democrats who might otherwise stay home. I believe the Congress is going to look about the same as it does right now after the election.

Meantime, Mrs. Palin got herself another fifteen minutes . . . and you can count on every one of the self-proclaimed leaders of the GOP to do the same, alternating among themselves in the months ahead, calling for this, accusing that, and none of them giving a rat’s ass about the problems faced by mere Americans. Hell, what’s a bigger problem than figuring out how to get your name in the headlines again?

That is all Sarah Palin’s article was about in my opinion. She wants to keep her name in the headlines for whatever future plans she has. And it certainly did work!

What’s with those pesky Republicans TGY? They actually think they have a right to disagree with the Scolder-in-Chief. If only they would just go play a few games of pool, drink a few beers with a governor, hit up the liberals of Austin and not go near the crisis at the border, they too could claim to care “about the problems faced by mere Americans”. We know Obama gives “a rat’s ass”. How? Because he tells us he does.

Eh, disagreement and dissent are ingrained in the American psyche, Bruce. Nothing I’ve ever said here or anywhere else contradicts that.

Attempting to remove a President from office when it’s as plain as the nose on your face that it’s not going to happen, though, is not just disagreement. It’s an exercise in futility – much like 50+ attempts to repeal the ACA.

Especially after having tried unsuccessfully to unseat the last Democratic president, the Republicans seem hellbent on branding themselves as the party of not just of futility, but also of impracticality.

Take good care and may God bless us all!

Don’t misunderstand, Bruce – I’m not telling you not to go ahead with your impeachment efforts. I’m just joining my voice to those of responsible conservatives who are saying that focusing the nation’s attention on such a doomed-to-fail spectacle for six months or so would be a bad, bad move for the country, and especially for the GOP.

TGY, facts are troubling things, especially for Obama (“…if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor, PERIOD!”) and Hillary ( “I was named after Sir Edmond Hillary” even though he hadn’t made the climb, wasn’t a ‘sir” yet and nobody had heard of him when Hill-a-beans was born)
Go up to the top of THIS thread and you will see I AM THE FIRST POST and that in that post I BEG people to drop the impeachment idea, no matter how valid it may be, so no worries about misunderstandings, thus thank you for your kind and accurate complement about me being a responsible conservative. AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT i AM. I haven’t been a member of the Republican party, or any party, for over 25 years “…not that there is anything wrong with that…”
        May God help us.

It shouldn’t be hard to understand. Impeachment is not going to happen as long as the Senate is controlled by the liberals. That truth may not sit well with some people, but it is still the truth. We should be focusing on other issues. And yes, that also means Sarah Palin.

Exactly Larry, those calling for impeachment are thinking with their emotions and the leaders in the party are playing into their emotions but there is no chance impeachment will ever happen and the Republicans would be better off sticking to the issues for I believe Obama can be beaten on the issues.

I am with you. It will go no where. I have yet to hear a coherent position from the GOP on the border issue.

Yeah, and of course many of them want amnesty as well so you have to wonder how upset they are about this situation as well.

Steve, I agree with your assessment. Impeachment is not going to happen. I go further than the stated reasons, though. Impeachment won’t happen because too many republicans are complicit in obama’s crimes.

Even if November’s elections resulted in 100% of both House and Senate becoming republican, it still won’t happen. Too much of what republicans have done, in cooperation with obama, will come out.

…and, there is still, in the back of my mind, a thought that there is another reason impeachment will never happen. A reason besides just politics; a reason of which only some of our illustrious representatives know. A promise, perhaps, of mass civil unrest; maybe action taken by other countries, or international organizations, to collapse our economy. Something along those lines….

Yep, unfortunately ‘We the people’ aren’t represented by either group, nor have we been for decades. The few individuals who still hold true to ‘America’ before it was incorporated, don’t seem to have a chance or the ‘oomph’ to change it. Esp. when the majority of citizens are ‘dumb/ignorant’ by design to know the difference between ‘Freedom’ and Bondage. The fraud, acting as the Prez, shows forth as the “Progressive Slave boy” – but the deceived see him as the answer for them to live out the depraved nature: “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” 1 John 2:16
      Here’s an good example: https://maddmedic.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/no-difference.jpg
My brother states it this way: the usa is a corporation and we are its corporate assets – better known as cannon fodder.

It is the Hegelian dialectic. Both sides distract us with this squabbling and while we fight over these issues they work together behind the scenes to do whatever they want to.

That is a great point about the Republicans Laura. They are not clean either and that is probably why they are so reluctant to really pursue Fast and Furious, the IRS, and Benghazi. They pay lip service to this to appease the base but they really have done nothing about it and that is most likely because they played a role in all of this.
