House passes bill to stop Barack Obama from using Executive action on amnesty…so what?

August 2, 2014

john-boehner-cryingAfter an embarrassing (but quite frankly, entertaining) week of watching John Boehner try to rally support behind a border bill–which has called into question the Speaker’s leadership ability once again–the House finally did something.

Last night, in a vote of 216 to 192, the House passed legislation which will prevent Barack Obama from using Executive action to expand the amnesty program he already set in motion with previous actions.

Now it is on to the Senate where it should easily pass and then it will head over to the President’s desk where he will immediate sign away power he feels is rightfully his and hand it over to the Republicans in the House as a show of great magnanimity. Oh, wait…that is not what is going to happen at all. In fact nothing will happen, this will not even come up for a vote in the Senate.

  So what is the point?

The point is now they can go home for the Summer and tell their constituents they DID SOMETHING, not that they ACCOMPLISHED ANYTHING, but hell they really tried so it is not their fault what happens next–elect some Republicans to the Senate and then watch what happens. That is all this is really about, setting up for the next election. Just like repealing Obamacare 3,000 times…

And in the end do they really think there is a difference between doing something which accomplishes nothing and doing something which actually does something? I don’t think so because this is all about appearances and that is all they really care about when heading into an election; nothing has changed yet now the Republicans in the House can claim some sort of symbolic victory and we are all supposed to be grateful they tried, this is all a game to them and we are the suckers being played for fools.

Does John Boehner actually think the American people who support slowing down Barack Obama from using Executive power cannot see through this shell game? Or worse yet, is he right?

They managed to screw this up once again. Wait until the Senate is gone. That will work. Then the GOP can be blamed.

Exactly! Is there any doubt at all that Boehner needs to be replaced if the Republicans hold onto the House?

Ok, so we have a new bill for border control/amnesty/money, that will go to the Senate and stagnate there. So what? Harry Reid has things tied up in the Senate and nothing passes thru without his say so. I hear that the ebola control is in place. THE PRESIDENT SAID SO! We have 2 airports that have setups to scan passengers for “symptoms” when they come in. Again. “so what”! I was thinking after reading that, what about the southern border??? Are we setup to scan illegals coming across for infectious diseases? I feel so much more safe now that I have been told that ebola will not get past a few people that look for symptoms. What about they ones that are not showing signs of it, YET? Do you think the hometown meetings will be heating up while they are on break? I have gotten to the point, I believe nothing they tell us anymore!

And now the Senate is on recess so Obama will use the EO anyway, this accomplished nothing! This should be the final nail in the coffin of Boehner’s Speakership…if the GOP is lucky enough to hold onto the majority…

Man oh man, I wish I had your confidence the GOP will lose the House!
More and more, I find myself watching these people jaw agape. I always thought that the people who went to Washington to represent us, by and large, really were the best and the brightest – even those from the other party. Then I see demonstrations like this – do they really think we’re that stupid?

I got an email from the RNC the other day, asking me to sign a petition to keep Michelle Nunn out of the Senate. I sent them an email I know they didn’t read, asking them if they think we’re so stupid as to think that signing petitions will defeat their political opponents at the ballot box. I should have asked if THEY’RE so stupid that they think getting signatures on a petition will accomplish their electoral goals. What will they do if she wins (unlikely) – show her their petition and demand she not take the oath of office?
Anyway, I agree with your analysis of the current situation – they’re more interested in being able to claim they tried to do something than in actually accomplishing anything. And unless I’m mistaken, the history books will note that for several years, the GOP was more concerned with preventing the President from governing than it was with furthering the interests of the American people.

By the way, do you think there’s anything to the idea the GOP is purposely stalling on border control and immigration reform because of all the cheap labor the big agribusinesses (GOP supporters, generally) get from illegal immigration?
Take good care and may God bless us all!

Yeah, it is not very likely the Democrats would be able to flip enough seats to take back the House but when you see a fiasco like this it makes you wonder…
There is no doubt in my mind that is the reason why so many Republicans support a “pathway to citizenship” for those who are here illegally so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the case. However, I have also read that Democrats also wanted to delay this so they could use it against the Republicans in the election. Not sure if that is true though because the Republicans did a good enough job delaying it on their own.
