Open thread for Sunday, August 3rd: Everybody Knows

August 3, 2014

  Here is the open thread for Sunday, August 3rd; please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

  As usual you can follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is going on in the world. You can also subscribe to receive email updates and if you do you will never miss a post again.

  The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in near real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!?

  I am changing it up a little bit with this week’s musical selection. Although I have used this song before I find some of the lyrics to be relevant to politics in America today so I give you Leonard Cohen performing ‘Everybody Knows.’ (I used a different video then the last time to change it up a little bit.)

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That’s how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows

    The Partisan.
    When they poured across the border
    I was cautioned to surrender,
    this I could not do;
    I took my gun and vanished.
    I have changed my name so often,
    I’ve lost my wife and children
    but I have many friends,
    and some of them are with me.

    An old woman gave us shelter,
    kept us hidden in the garret,
    then the soldiers came;
    she died without a whisper.

    There were three of us this morning
    I’m the only one this evening
    but I must go on;
    the frontiers are my prison.

    Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing,
    through the graves the wind is blowing,
    freedom soon will come;
    then we’ll come from the shadows.

    Les Allemands e’taient chez moi, (The Germans were at my home)
    ils me dirent, “Signe toi,” (They said, “Sign yourself,”)
    mais je n’ai pas peur; (But I am not afraid)
    j’ai repris mon arme. (I have retaken my weapon.)

    J’ai change’ cent fois de nom, (I have changed names a hundred times)
    j’ai perdu femme et enfants (I have lost wife and children)
    mais j’ai tant d’amis; (But I have so many friends)
    j’ai la France entie`re. (I have all of France)

    Un vieil homme dans un grenier (An old man, in an attic)
    pour la nuit nous a cache’, (Hid us for the night)
    les Allemands l’ont pris; (The Germans captured him)
    il est mort sans surprise. (He died without surprise.)

    Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing,
    through the graves the wind is blowing,
    freedom soon will come;
    then we’ll come from the shadows.

    During one of the past Olympics, one of the male skaters danced to “I’m your Man”, it was amazing and he had fun with it. Might want to listen to that song too. You cannot go wrong with Leonard Cohen,

    I’m not sure about ‘everybody knows …’ Steve. Some know it more than others! Knowing what to do about stopping it … even a better song to sing!
    Here’s something: ‘Don’t fence me in’

      Good point, not everybody knows! It is interesting that many of these illegals are entering Mexico to make their way here, there is no doubt that this whole thing is orchestrated in my opinion.

    I found this, this morning:
    http://weaselzippers.us/195638-quinn-to-send-state-troopers-to-serve-fugitive-warrants-in-chicago/#disqus_thread

    This does not shock me in the least. For a city that is “gun free”, or at least was before we got Conceal Carry (a big joke because of all the stipulations), they have to bring in the big guns to try and take back the city? Other than East St. Louis that has problems, I am not sure that Chicago will ever be able to be controlled. Looking at the picture, I see MILITARY, don’t you? I know it says POLICE, so we are supposed to feel all safe, right? I also bet a lot of those illegals that came easily across our southern border are headed that way, if they are not there already. Then we will see mass chaos in the streets with the rival gangs battling it out. There are areas that you are told NOT to go into, nice, huh? This is obviously a Democratic strong hold in the state, along with Springfield for who rules. The rest of the state is pretty Conservative, but it never seems to matter, since the votes are most always found to get that Democrat re-elected. I give you DICK DURBIN!
