Barack Obama claims it wasn’t his decision to pull troops out of Iraq

August 10, 2014

Now that ISIS is on the march in Iraq and Barack Obama has ordered airstrikes in the region in order to slow the terrorist organization’s progress he has been coming under fire for comparing ISIS to a junior varsity basketball team not all that long ago.

The White House press corps (not corpse Barry) has been trying to defend that analogy but it has not quelled the criticism being leveled at the president, so before leaving for vacation Barack Obama tried to distance himself from the removal of United States troops from Iraq by stating the following:

“What I just find interesting is the degree to which this issue keeps on coming up, as if this was my decision,” Obama said, indicating he does not believe it was his decision as commander in chief of U.S. troops in a congressionally authorized action in Iraq to decide whether the troops should stay or leave.

“In order for us to maintain troops in Iraq, we needed the invitation of the Iraqi government and we needed assurances that our personnel would be immune from prosecution if, for example, they were protecting themselves and ended up getting in a firefight with Iraqis, that they wouldn’t be hauled before an Iraqi judicial system.

“And the Iraqi government, based on its political considerations, in part because Iraqis were tired of a U.S. occupation, declined to provide us those assurances,” Obama said. “And on that basis, we left. We had offered to leave additional troops. So when you hear people say, do you regret, Mr. President, not leaving more troops, that presupposes that I would have overridden this sovereign government that we had turned the keys back over to and said, you know what, you’re democratic, you’re sovereign, except if I decide that it’s good for you to keep 10,000 or 15,000 or 25,000 Marines in your country, you don’t have a choice, which would have kind of run contrary to the entire argument we were making about turning over the country back to Iraqis, an argument not just made by me, but made by the previous administration.

  He continued:

“So that entire analysis is bogus and is wrong,” said Obama. “But it gets frequently peddled around here by folks who oftentimes are trying to defend previous policies that they themselves made.”

Now, I am a fair man so I will grant him the benefit of the doubt. There is probably no way Barack Obama made this decision on his own; he probably met with his advisers and talked to the Iraqi government before making his final decision. But the final decision was his and he made no bones about it when he felt it was politically expedient for him to take credit for the troop withdrawal:

You know I say what I mean and I mean what I say,” Obama said in Hollywood, Florida on Nov. 4, 2012.  “I said I’d end the war in Iraq. I ended it.”

So which is it? He had no problem whatsoever taking full credit for ending the Iraq war when it was beneficial to his reelection campaign but now that ending the war has led to what we are witnessing today he is claiming the decision was not his to make. How convenient, he knew what he was getting into when he decided to take the job in the first place, but now he is acting as if he is a victim.

Supporters of Barack Obama blame the Bush regime for this by saying this is proof that we should not have gone into Iraq in the first place, and I have to admit that as the years have worn on I believe this was a mistake as well, but that still does not absolve Barack Obama from his decision to leave Iraq.

In the end I just wish that Barack Obama had as much willingness to take the blame when things go bad as he has in taking the credit when things go well for this is what a true leader would do. But of course, real leadership is what is missing in Washington DC because all that anyone is interested in doing in the Nation’s capitol is protecting themselves…

Wait a minute. Obama campaigned on withdrawing our troops from Iraq. He scheduled a withdrawal against all advice and common sense. He made little or no effort to come to an agreement with the Iraqi government about having any of our soldiers remain in Iraq. When he completed the withdrawal, he proudly announced it and took credit for it.

Now he says it’s not his fault?!?!?

I’ll be seeing my favorite Kool Aide drinker tomorrow. I wonder what he thinks about it.

Wish me luck. He can get nasty when cornered. Typical Liberal, facts he disagrees with make him angry.

Good luck to you! I hope you let us know how you make out, but I am sure he will blame Bush for this.

OK, didn’t get to the latest from Iraq with the Kool Aide drinker, BUT one of his friends went on a rant about how the doctors at Ellis Island routinely abused, even killed immigrants. He held the position even in light of evidence from his own family and my family.

Why do Liberals automatically hate anything America ever did?

Why if the country is so bad, would we want to make the government even more powerful, more intrusive in our lives?

Your last question is a great one and I don’t have the answer to it, but I will ask this; if America is so bad why are these people so willing to break the law to get here?

Steve, doublespeak is the only answer to your question as to which it is? IT’S BOTH!
First, it is important that the president gets to his unbelievably expensive vacation, just like the millions of poor he claims to defend.
Second, do you think ISIS, or ISIL, or whatever they are today “needed the invitation of the Iraqi government and…needed assurances that [their] personnel would be immune from prosecution”?
Third, do you remember “Big time Wrestling? Remember when one guy would have the other huge guy in a toe lock rendering that huge guy completely powerless? The other guy had his TOE, but all he could do is flail his arms and beg for mercy.

Doublespeak is right on! That is exactly what we are hearing, the only question is; are the people going to fall for this?

Yes! 47% (like Romney was whipped for saying) will! The splintered conservatives combined with an aggressively progressive media and a lot of sheep that just don’t care will!
How many times have you seen people walk around an injured person needing help who “don’t want to get involved”? Just like in football, how many time have you seen an agile running back slip through a set of big linemen?

Yeah, Romney took heat for his comment but the truth is he was right all along.

Ocrapi’s head scratching about who the hell ordered those troops out of Iraq while he was incommunicado on the golf course has morphed into democrat talking points as evidenced by the Chris Wallace interview with Cardin D -MD this morning. If there is any consistency at MSLSD their trolls should be crucifying George Bush for arming McCain and Lurch’s freedom fighters and pulling out the american troops from the democratic republic of Iraq.

But I think the MSM may finally be tiring of listening to his stories, they went after him pretty hard on NBC. Of course the MSM is only doing this in order to distance Hillary from him so they can support her in 2016…

Barack Obama has been in office since January 2009. Since that time, I have yet to hear him accept responsibility for his actions, unless it is to take credit for something he perceives to be a positive. Otherwise, he is always pointing the finger at someone else. President Bush, Congress, the GOP, it doesn’t matter, as long as he doesn’t have to share the blame.

After so many years of this, it seems to me to be his standard method of operation.

My God, there it is! I have been preaching the big brother future for ever. Listen to him! We will “grind down”. “We will not tolerate” And NOTHING about this from the left! Nothing from the media! Nothing from the big mouthed Hollywood talking heads. God how I hate the hypocrisy!
