Mugshot: Rick Perry turns himself in, booked on two felony charges
Earlier today Rick Perry turned himself in and was booked for two felony charges for allegedly abusing his power and for coercion for using a veto to demand the resignation of the head of the Texas public integrity unit after she was convicted of, and spent time in jail for, drunk driving.
As I have said in my previous posts about this issue: Rick Perry was justified in calling for her resignation and in a just world she would have obliged, however this was probably not a wise way to force the issue.
This indictment seems to have been motivated by purely political reasons and with liberals, such as Mark Halperin, Allen Dershowitz, and even David Axelrod questioning the indictment it looks like the case may be thrown out–depending on the judge of course.
In a previous post on this issue a commenter, Bruce, noted that even if these charges are trumped up and ultimately go nowhere Rick Perry would still have to be booked, fingerprinted, and have his mugshot taken.
I tend to agree with this for why would Rick Perry turn himself in and go through the process if there was a chance the charges could be dropped and he could avoid the whole situation?
And now the left has its mugshot (pictured above) and even if the case goes nowhere I have to believe they still feel victorious because they have achieved their goal: they have tainted Rick Perry and have probably destroyed any slim chance he might have had at becoming the next president of the United States.
This mugshot will be seen over and over again if he decides to run for president and the media will surely point to the wry little smile on his face to prove to the American voters that Rick Perry really did not take this issue seriously and it will not even matter if the charges are dropped.

It’s difficult to fight a group that don’t play by traditional rules and change the boundary lines whenever they feel a need. Perry needs a class in the Art of being ‘shrewd’. Wonder who counseled him? That foiled.

Even if nothing comes from this he has been damaged. I understand what he was trying to do but I don’t think he thought it through. Of course he probably never imagined something like this could happen so, he underestimated how far they would go.

Well then , this saves the GOP elite the trouble of disposing of a candidate who appeared to be coming on strong. Wasn’t Romney scuffling around Texas recently? Hmmm…

Well that is an interesting thought! I wouldn’t put this past the establishment at all!
