Open thread for Sunday, September 7th: Who Do You Want To Be?

September 7, 2014

Here is the open thread for Sunday, September 7th; please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

Last week was yet another slow week politically but we still managed to cover 11 stories. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.

In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.

The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!?

Now on to this week’s musical selection: this week I have chosen a song by the band Oingo Boingo entitled ‘Who Do You Want To Be’ (featuring lead singer Danny Elfman sporting a wife-beater AND suspenders, not a combination you see every day) performed live in 1985.

  Enjoy:

Ok I found a song : Oingo Boingo – Just Another Day
That sound like a bit Simple Minds as Alphaville
At that time many did follow a kind of Dance Floor New Wave..
Thank You Steve For the Discovery..

Forever Young by Alphaville With Lyrics

Lets dance in style, lets dance for a while.
Heaven can wait were only watching the skies.
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst.
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?

Let us die young or let us live forever.
We dont have the power but we never say never.
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip.
The music’s for the sad men.

Can you imagine when this race is won.
Turn our golden faces into the sun.
Praising our leaders were getting in tune.
The musics played by the madmen.

Forever young, I want to be forever young.
Do you really want to live forever? forever and ever.

Forever young, I want to be forever young.
Do you really want to live forever? for ever young.

Some are like water, some are like the heat.
Some are a melody and some are the beat.
Sooner or later they all will be gone.
        Why dont they stay young?

Its so hard to get old without a cause.
I dont want to perish like a fading horse.
Youth is like diamonds in the sun.
        And diamonds are forever.

So many adventures couldnt happen today.
So many songs we forgot to play.
So many dreams are swinging out of the blue.
        We let them come true.

Forever young, I want to be forever young.
Do you really want to live forever? forever and ever.

Very good! Thanks for sharing, and did you notice America’s Watchtower made it into the video at the end as a “Hegelian Dialectic topic generator?” I was shocked to see that!

After going through hell week, it is good to be back among friends. Take a long walk on the other side, and you will thank God,(because He is in very short supply over there, and held in contempt when He is mentioned) you are back here. My report from the front line is that we are doomed. Up is really down, and hate is really love, and most startling, diversity and tolerance are anything but.
Thanks for this site Steve, thanks for your fight, and as TGY stay, may God bless us.

Thank you for the kind words and you are doing a hell of a job fighting the other side over there. What I realize when I am over there is that you are right, it seems as if there is nothing we can do to change their minds. I cite law to prove the definition of militia and am told that law doesn’t matter because the government can do what it wants to. And in the same breath the same person tells me that government is here to serve the people, so which is it? I have tried over and over again to make that point but it is a losing proposition. That is why I have to walk away for days at a time, but I keep going back hoping that I can make some sort of headway. It is could to have a friendly voice over there.

Yea Steve, I really feel like Rocky from Rocky I, it seems I am not very bright, I have fought a lot of rounds, and I have had the crap beat out of me. But unlike Rocky, I never win. I don’t expect to change any minds there, but I would be happy to just understand a few. But like you say Steve, the story keeps changing. I told my wife I think I went down the rabbit hole. (que Jefferson Airplane and White Rabbit)

I think that you underestimate yourself, you are very bright, it is just that there are so many there who are of the opposite opinion and so few who agree with us. It is hard to take them all on. I am probably one of the only ones there who is not college educated and that is very intimidating.I apologize for getting you involved, but it is nice to have a friendly voice there. 🙂

BTW, Rocky did not win the first time around, but through persistence, and faith, he prevailed!

Steve, my tongue may have been a bit in cheek on the not too bright comment, it was more what I imagine they would say. As for college, there is a reason we have a term “liberal elite”. I have an honors degree in economics. That and a $1.00 is worth 50 cents. After a (short) while with the government after college, I escaped and got a contractors license and have done honest work every day since. I have dug more sewer ditches than I can count, but as my mother always used to say, they were my ditches. And really Steve, I am happy to be over there, and appreciate the opportunity. It really helps me sharpen my skills.

It certainly does keep you on your toes over there, doesn’t it? And yes, I am sure they feel people “like us” are not too bright.

Bruce, can you please explain a little. I understand what you’re saying, but can you provide a reference – I’d like to tag it to something. Thanks – if you’d rather not that’s okay too.
Your point(s) brings to mind (again) Romans 1:20 thru the end of the chapter – esp. 1:22 ‘Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,’ Some don’t want to hear & Like Steve says ‘hang in there!’ … or is that ‘here!’

Forgive me Zip, I was not trying to be obtuse. Steve can explain things better, but we are referring to a site that is, IMO, hard left. And Zip, it is a “there”. and “hang” (as in ‘from a tree’ ) is the operative word. 😉

Bruce and I have been debating in a group on Facebook and most of the members there are liberals, that is what Bruce was referring to.

Appreciate your reply Bruce! Hanging out ‘here’ w/ Steve and friends, is much better than ‘there’ w/ the ‘foes’ and hang’ums. Remember the closer one gets to the Light the more dirt is seen! God’s Best.
