Rosie O’Donnell claims the NFL is helping to propel America into war by calling a penalty on a Muslim for praying in the endzone
I made a promise to myself that, unlike Rush Limbaugh, I would not allow myself to be drawn into the supposed political scandals surrounding the NFL because this is nothing but a sideshow designed to take our attention off the important issues, but I cannot help myself after hearing what Rosie O’Donnell had to say about what happened in last night’s football game.
In case you have not heard: after intercepting Tom Brady and scoring a defensive touchdown Husain Abdullah slid to the ground and the devout Muslim apparently said a quick prayer to Allah. For this the Chiefs were given a fifteen yard unsportsmanlike penalty.
The NFL has been trying to clamp down on what it considers to be excessive end zone celebrations which has led some to claim that ‘NFL’ stands for No Fun League. Part of this clamp down prohibits going to the ground in celebration and that is what he was flagged for, not for praying. Prayer is not prohibited and it is clear to me the referee did not understand that he was praying when he threw the flag.
Of course ‘The View’ and Rosie O’Donnell wasted no time in jumping into this controversy, wondering what the difference is between Tim Tebow and this incident. The big difference is the fact that Tim Tebow was praying on the sideline and it was not part of an end zone celebration, but of course nobody on ‘The View’ probably watches football so it is clear they do not understand the rules. Now, I think the new NFL rules are stupid and I do not think a flag should have been thrown in this instance but that is not the point.
Rosie O’Donnell actually claimed that the NFL is preparing to propel the United States into war and that was what this penalty was all about.
Here is the video:
I just have two obvious questions for Rosie O’Donnell: what possible interest could the NFL have in propelling the United States into war? And why are you letting Barack Obama off the hook?

We are not supposed to mention the human rights abuses unless it is related to the US.

For years I have felt that major league sports is used as the “drug” to keep the population from becoming seriously involved with the politics of our country. If w
e as a people would start at a young age to “reward” academic excellence for the week on TV instead of athlete of the week, this would become the beginning of a cultural change that would benefit us all.
Yes, there is room for sports, but not to the tune of$$$$$$$$$$$ for a few players. The time is ripe for a change in the way we value sports, and the way sports have been set up for just a few; when in fact, it could be set up to benefit ALL. This new way of looking at sports would allow for people to become involved in their country’s politics as passionately as they now are involved with “their teams”.
If we continue to let the “chosen few” direct our country while we all sit back and be entertained,we will get what we have chosen and deserve.

Professional sports today is the equivalent of the Roman circuses, they keep people diverted from the real issues. I have no problem with people watching sports and in fact I love football, but people who dedicate their whole lives to learning everything they can about these athletes and their statistics at the expense of what is happening in the real world simply have the priorities screwed up.

The world is wacko. Now the FCC is going to get in the mix with the Redskin nonsense? After the Patent office had a run at it? Meanwhile the world is on fire.

Apparently the government is going to use every agency at its disposal to go after the NFL and as you alluded to it seems as if there are more pressing issues they should be focused on.
