NASA study shows global warming heat is not hiding in the ocean

October 8, 2014

global-warming4As confirmed by  the Earth System Science Center at the University of Alabama/Huntsville and a former NASA scientist, after having studied the weather satellite data, the beginning of this month marked the 18th anniversary of no global warming.

This has led some climate scientists (and a certain ex-politician who has made millions off this scam) to try to explain how this could possibly be after years of fear mongering because they will not even entertain the idea they might have been mistaken.

One of the excuses they came up with was basically that the heat sank to the bottom of the ocean. (and I always thought heat rises.)

“Strong trade winds are bringing cooler water to the surface in the equatorial Pacific and mixing more heat into the deeper ocean.”

In fact, there is mounting evidence that deeper regions of the ocean, down to 2000 meters, are absorbing heat faster than ever, Trenberth said in a phone call. His research shows the oceans began taking on significantly more heat at around the same time the surface warming began to slow in 1998. His widely cited work was published just after the cutoff to be included in the IPCC report.

The irony, says Trenberth, is that when the surface of the planet is unusually sweltering, the Earth actually radiates more heat into the atmosphere, in effect slowing the long-term warming of the planet. And in “hiatus” years, when the surface is cooler, the Earth absorbs more of the sun’s heat deep the oceans, slowly cooking the planet. What you see isn’t always what you get.

But now a new NASA study is throwing cold water (pun intended) into this argument. Here is more:

The cold waters of Earth’s deep ocean have not warmed measurably since 2005, according to a new NASA study, leaving unsolved the mystery of why global warming appears to have slowed in recent years.

Scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, analyzed satellite and direct ocean temperature data from 2005 to 2013 and found the ocean abyss below 1.24 miles (1,995 meters) has not warmed measurably. Study coauthor Josh Willis of JPL said these findings do not throw suspicion on climate change itself.

Part of this theory of the heat sinking to the bottom of the ocean states that because warm water expands this would also help to account for the rising sea levels, but NASA also debunked that theory as well:

To arrive at their conclusion, the JPL scientists did a straightforward subtraction calculation, using data for 2005 to 2013 from the Argo buoys, NASA’s Jason-1 and Jason-2 satellites, and the agency’s Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellites. From the total amount of sea level rise, they subtracted the amount of rise from the expansion in the upper ocean, and the amount of rise that came from added meltwater. The remainder represented the amount of sea level rise caused by warming in the deep ocean.

The remainder was essentially zero. Deep ocean warming contributed virtually nothing to sea level rise during this period.

To quote Rick Perry, “whoops!” Looks like they are going to have to come up with a new excuse.

One has the give them credit for at least their creativity.

Was there a consensus of scientist saying that the warm waters sank to the bottom? That would be a neat trick since warm water is less dense than cold water until water freezes and then the molecules begin to spread apart as ice crystals are formed (cold water), which is, of course less dense than warm water, explaining why ice floats.

What’s old is new again. No not platform shoes but the Ol’ Holes in the Ozone Layer routine. Should global warming climate/change lose its attraction they will trot out this relic from the 70’s and given the quantum of gullibility running rampant in this country and the world this issue once in the MSM should be a no brainer. Oil up the cash registers Washington and UN.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they did try to bring back the hole in the ozone layer, most of the young people today have never heard of that scam. Might as well bring back acid rain while they are at it.

When I first saw this article posted elsewhere, I thought we had the smoking gun, so I sent it on to my leftist friends. One of them sent the long full version of the article back to me. I actually read it all, and I have to say it isn’t as useful as I had hoped. It is more like “everything is still bad, we just don’t know the oceans aren’t hot also”. But one thing is for sure, “The science ISN’T settled”

I read some of the report but not all and I came to the same conclusion. They are not saying global warming does not exist only that this latest excuse is not true. A small victory but that is all.

I am glad you came away with the same feeling.

It was a small victory but a victory nonetheless and at this point we have to take them where we can get them.
