Election night open thread

November 4, 2014

I tried this during the disastrous election of 2012 and it was successful so here is the open thread for election night 2014. Feel free to post anything about the election tonight. Any updates on the elections, concerns, problems voting, gloating, crying, comforting, laughing, this is the place to be as we help each other through what is probably going to be a long, and hopefully fruitful night.

  Good luck to everyone!

Politico currently has the Democrats with 32 Senate seats and the Republicans with 30, I believe these are the seats not up for reelection.

I was bitterly disappointed in the last election. It’s going to be a while yet before I have real hopes for this one.

I hear you there, even if the Republicans win they still have to prove they are competent.

Even Boehner is better than Obama. I just wish a Republican had a chance here in California.

It is not looking great in NH right now. Guinta is close but the others seem to be in trouble.

Reminds me of the Kentucky Derby … living in the W. it’ll be a while to see the results.
Judge Denies Emergency Motion From Crist Campaign To Extend Voting Hours In Broward County
    one polling station was offline
Malfunctions with some voters’ addresses also caused them to be bounced between various precincts
Recent changes to voting districts caused much of the confusion.
Wonder why this wasn’t taken care of – distinct changes – before? Maybe it was and the ‘average Joe’ didn’t keep up with it.

Interesting you brought up Holder – I saw this earlier and wondered ‘what’s that about?’
“Holder sends poll watchers to 18 states” I thought he was out of the game –
Wonder what “head knockers” he employed this time? Or if those are ‘special forces hackers’.

Zip, I just do not like Franken and I cannot believe there are that many stupid people that would reelect him, but apparently there is. It always seemed like he stole his last election, maybe he used the same tactics this time.

I see with about 40 per cent reporting (Politico) Shaheen with a 4 percent lead (6000 votes) declared winner. While Georgia has 40 per cent reporting and Nunn is down 20 per cent (200,000 votes) and the race is not declared. Just saying.

We ousted Gov. Quinn from Democratic control here in Illinois! Yeah! What I do not understand is how Sen. Dick Durbin got elected back in if Rauner was voted in for Governor. Oh well, I am just thankful that we now have control of the top spot!
We need to remember that Obama will be VERY dangerous for the next 2 years….do NOT let your guard down. Congratulations to all that put up the good fight and won OR lost, we gave it our best effort and it has paid off, we have a chance now to take back our country!

Glad to hear Quinn is gone, that is a start and hopefully the GOP in Illinois can build on it. I was sad to see Durbin declared the winner so early, I would have at least liked to have seen him sweat a little.

Something does seem “odd” about that, doesn’t it? Usually if someone is voting for a Republican Governor, they will vote for the Republican Senator, but this time, I am with you, he was declared so early, I think it was fishy. However, at least without Quinn in there we might get rid of that “temporary” 67% tax increase that Quinn was going to make law right after the election. Durbin has been a thorn in my side with his smooth talking and I was sure we could get him out of there. Guess he knows how to appeal to someones vulnerability and make them trust him. I believe we still have the Madigans in there, so that should be interesting how they react to Rauner. Rodney Davis got elected back in, but I have mixed emotions about him, however at least he is not a Democrat. If there were more people that had opened their eyes AND ears, maybe we could have made a clean sweep of Springfield and made a fresh start, but we seem to make some of the same mistakes over and over. We can thank Cook County for that. From the map I saw, Chicago was the ONLY area that Quinn had, which gives me hope that we are cutting down on the “believers” in this state.
I was sad to see that a few other states that I thought had a chance, went the opposite way, voter fraud, maybe.
Mary Landrieu will hopefully lose in the runoff that was created, so there will be an additional seat.
Harry Reid NOT being the majority leader made my night probably more that Rauner being elected Governor here in my state. I loath that man and hope he is taken out of office during the next time he is up for election.
All of you sit back and heave a sigh of relief that we did what we could, was it enough?? We can hope it will be a good start for us and for America, at least we give her a fighting chance now! Take care!!!!

It is odd that it was so one-sided, is it name recognition or did something else go on. I guess we won’t know but I am with you, knowing Reid has lost his leadership brings a smile to my face!

Durbin was called the winner with 1% in, ya, that is odd. After looking at county by county, Oberweis was winning in all but 1 and guess where that was? The Republican party is alot at fault here, they pulled money in support of Oberweis and gave it to others in the state, they just did not support OR take out ads on him like it should have been done. AND, he was not the smooth talker that Durbin is. That is what our Government has become? Alot of smooth talkers?

No kidding Obama’s dangerous. He’s under siege and he doesn’t mind using extra legal means to do what he wants. He can still eff up our economy and foreign policy some more. Don’t forget, a lot of his minions are buried inside the Federal Bureaucracy. Laws and guidelines have interpretations….

Lou and Dr. Jeff, you are both right about Obama being dangerous now. Especially with the EO and the lame duck, he could pass much of what he wants before the new Congress takes over.
