Nancy Pelosi claims the Emancipation Proclamation was an Executive Order

  Earlier today Nancy Pelosi had a peculiar way of trying to justify Barack Obama’s Executive Action on immigration reform. She compared it to the Emancipation Proclamation.

  Here is what she had to say:

“Does the public know the Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order?” Pelosi asked reporters Thursday. “People have to understand how presidents have made change in our country, Congress catching up, and in the case of Ronald Reagan, improving what Congress has done.”

  Seeing as how she called into question the intelligence of the public I would like to ask her a few questions about this.

  Mrs. Pelosi: Do you realize the Emancipation Proclamation was actually a war declaration issued only to what at that time amounted to a foreign nation? Do you know it only applied to the states in rebellion and that it did not apply to slave holding states which stayed loyal to the Union? Do you know this meant he issued the Proclamation to the states he did not have authority over at the time while leaving the states alone which he did still represent as President? Do you know that President Lincoln knew he did not have the power to do this which is why he pushed the Congress to write the 13th amendment so that the Proclamation could have the force of law? Do you know that once the 13th amendment was ratified southern states had to agree to it in order to return to the Union and that was how the slaves were actually freed?

  This argument is flawed on so many levels, it is true the Emancipation Proclamation paved the way for freeing the slaves but it was the Congress and the American people which eventually freed the slaves. I just have one last question for Nancy Pelosi, do you realize how stupid you sound?
